Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very disappointed with the afternoon tea. We had three finger sandwiches each on a plate, not on a tiered afternoon tea plate. Two very small chocolate slices, two cherry scones with cream and jam, we were expecting plain or fruit scones, I don’t like cherry...scones, so did not enjoy this and four shortbread rounds. We felt the shortbread was a cop out, as there were no savoury or fruit tarts.More

Came here with my friend for my belated Christmas present staying overnight and having an evening meal. We have been before a couple of times and we were not disappointed this time round. As before, the service was excellent, the room was really comfortable and...our whole stay was very enjoyable. Breakfast was fantastic. I had Eggs Benedict and it was one of the best I have ever had with eggs cooked to perfection and plenty of hollandaise sauce. I love staying here and can't wait to come back again.More

Really enjoyed catching up with a friend and eating here. Dropped in early on a Saturday and managed to get a table. Korean beef spring roll was a great starter. Lip smacking good. Sea bass main was excellent if a little light on carbs. However...my friend ordered the fisherman’s basket which was a mound of fish & chips. Shared some of that which was excellent. Service good all the way through. Great meal.More

We chose to eat here as we heard it was dog friendly and we have a rather excitable 7 month old golden retriever puppy. The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived - they gave us the table closest to the door (this was...perfect as we were a bit worried about walking him past other people) and they offered him water and dog treats. They were great with us too with quick service and were always friendly and helpful. The food we had was really nice and felt like a real treat, I don’t think we would have been disappointed with anything from the menu. We’ll definitely be coming back here again!More

Just returned from ‘The Swan’ and would highly recommend it. The dining room was beautifully furnished, and we were given a very nicely decorated table in the window. A good menu with a great choice of starters, mains & desserts. All of the dishes were...excellent, with a good portion size. Six of us all had excellent food. Service was very good too, the staff were friendly, and attentive. No problem when we asked for more gravy. Already planning to return.More

Booked at 545 on a Saturday night for my Daughter and I. Busy night and good atmosphere. The manager was very polite and showed us to our table. Service was pretty slow however completely expected on a Saturday night. My daughter ordered the 3 nibbles...for £20 and I ordered the main course of mussels and fries which we were both going to share as a meal. The food came out and the mussels were in a small bowl, about 8-10 mussels in total. I told the waitress there had been a mistake as I had ordered the main portion. She took them away then brought them back saying the chef says that is a main portion! 10 mussels for £16!! I asked for the manager who again went to the kitchen only to come back with the same answer. Now either the chef is extremely inexperienced in costing menus or he genuinely feels that this constitutes as a main meal! Either way I sent them back and asked for them to be taken off the bill. My daughter and I ate the rest of the meal which was very Underwhelming then went home and had a proper meal! To add insult to injury I was also presented with a bill which included service charge! Won't be returning.More

We have known The Swan for a long time, as we live locally. We went for Dinner, what has happened?! It has gone very downhill in terms of service, value for money and quality of food. There seems to be no system in place, the...staff don’t appear to have had any training. We had 30-40 min wait between starter and main course. Very overcooked duck. 15 min wait for a glass of wine. Slow and not worth the money, won’t be going again.More

This place ticked all the boxes from the moment we walked in. A friendly welcome, help carrying our bags to our room. And what a room: we went for the upgrade and it was delightful. The standard rooms, on inspection, seemed basic by comparison. Sadly,...things went downhill after that. There seems to be a problem when it comes to getting food served in a timely manner, both in the evening and at breakfast. Breakfast was chaotic on our second morning. It’s a nice place and I’d recommend (but with some hesitation).More

Three of us came for a Sunday Lunch after a 50km cycle ride so we were quite hungry. We came to the Swan by chance, knowing nothing about the pub and not having read any reviews. Our experience was very positive. Both the Sunday roasts...were excellent, and the vegetarian Sunday roast was particularly good. The fish and chips were good too. In addition we found the staff very friendly, very attentive and very professional. We were lucky in that at 2.00pm the place was not busy at all so there were plenty of tables to choose where to sit and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Basd on our experience I'd definitely go again.More

The surrounding were good for the age of the pub and some lovely old features. This was spoilt because we had to wait far too long for our food at least 20 -30mins m and my chips were just warm not hot. We sat down...at 1.25pm and did not finishing eating until 4ish.More

I booked an overnight stay at this hotel as we were visiting friends in the area. First impressions were good. We were shown to our room (5) which on the surface looked nice. However, the noise from the main, busy road was unbearable, so we...closed the windows. This was on the 14th June when it was sweltering outside. We didn’t get a wink of sleep as there were no fans/air conditioning in the room and it was like an oven. As I was getting ready I noticed marks on the wall. I took a closer look and it was splatters of tea/coffee up the wall. There was also brown stains dotted over the carpet. Then I noticed the thick dust on all the skirting and dado rails, of which I have photos. This was both in the room and bathroom. I sent an email to The Swan the next day and a woman called Sue said she would pass my complaint would be passed to the Manager Wes. It is now the 3rd July and I have heard nothing back, even though I have sent a further two emails. Very bad customer service from The Swan.More

Called in here passing by. Nothing wrong with atmosphere, decor or service at all but the food was poor. We ordered what was described as a shin beef pie with tomato. At £18 each for a pie I expected something decent. They were about 4...inches in diameter and contained hardly any meat at all and tasted of nothing, in fact I couldn’t find any meat in mine. If the owner or whoever is running this place thinks these are acceptable at £18 they need to rethink their business and visit some other pubs serving food in the area. We also ordered a bottle of Malbec £30 which was a pretty poor bottle of wine. No surprise then to find it for sale at under £10 online. All in all a very poor meal for 2 at nearly £80.More

An extremely disappointing Sunday lunch. The pate starter lacked flavour and the main course of striploin of beef was stringy and fatty. The accompanying Yorkshire pud was dry and cold. We requested extra gravy but this never came. We had to ask for the correct...cutlery to try and cut the beef. Many diners, as well as our table, sent their plates back with only half eaten lunches. The luke warm tea was served from glass coffee pots containing teabags. The Dining Room ladies loos are tired and shabby. In fact the upstairs Dining Room furnishings are very dated and tired. The Restaurant Manager was nowhere to be found until after the lunch was served. All in all for £35 per head, the experience was poor. Needless to say, we will not be returning.More
