Having reached half way on our day's hike I was expecting to be greeted by a friendly landlord/lady who would take an interest in where we'd been and what we were doing. No. No interest whatsoever, no cheery welcome in fact barely a word spoken by this Eastern European(?) individual. He just about managed to mumble a miserable 'goodbye'. The... More

Had the fish platter which was amazing, cooked to perfection, loved the grilled sardines. The bread was delicious. The fish cakes were tasty. Can't wait to go back

This was the best night! Meal in the bar followed by a fantastic informal group of very talented musicians! True England! We will be back as this is home!

We have enjoyed two nights staying in The Mortal Man with two friends while walking in the Lake District. Our rooms where excellent, clean and warm and the views were spectacular. We dined on both nights, the food was good and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The bonus was the variety of cidars and beers available.

Just back from a lovely couple of nights at The Mortal Man. The room was beautiful, food was great, staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We were lucky enough to be there for the folk sessions on Tuesday night, where anybody can join in and take it in turns to play or sing. What a fantastic... More

On our way from Bowness to Ullswater, we realized it was lunchtime and made a detour - and sometimes you really feel lucky. We wouldn't had driven past the Mortal man if it hadn't been lunchtime - and the loss would have been ours. A picturesque pub with excellent food, a good variety of good ales and ciders and a... We had an evening meal here as we were staying nearby over night in High Fold Guest House in Troutbeck. A traditional gastro type eatery that does B&B. We ordered steak pie and chips and Haddock and chips with minted mushy peas. Both dishes had hand cut chips. When our meals arrived they looked appetising, unfortunately they looked better than...
