Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We waited a long time for a get together with our Mothers Union. We were amazed at this lovely little gem of a boutique cafe serving hand made meals inside or in the walled garden. We discussed this event with Debbie the owner whilst enjoying a morning coffee with cake and scones. Debbie was prepared to do the event and would give the members a choice of cake or scone with tea or coffee for a small amount. On the day of the event she closed the cafe at 3.00pm just for the ladies. The tables were dressed beautifully and she had followed the rules for social distancing. The food was served all freshly made on the day which was delicious and everyone got what they ordered. Extra tea and coffee was available too. We also had the chance to have a cheeky prosecco or other drinks. Well done Debbie and your staff it was amazing. Looking forward to another event in Her Citi.

Prepared to take away due to the current restrictions, the food was freshly prepared, generous in quantity and scrumptious. Everything we needed was provided including chutney with the lovely home made sausage rolls and butter, cream and jam for the beautiful scones. I would recommend this to anyone.

During the pandemic, I wanted to treat friends and family to a little something that would remind them of going out for a treat during isolation. So I ordered three scones with jam and cream for afternoon tea and a gluten free treat for myself, to takeaway and deliver. Well what a treat. They were beautifully presented on owners’ plates, not on cardboard or plastic, and all were delicious. Such an incredible treat during a difficult time.

Had a wonderful lunch in Her Citi’s sunny courtyard. Lots to choose from on the menu but we just fancied a bacon sandwich and a fried egg sandwich and these promptly arrived. Debbie has a good selection of desserts and we both had Lemon Meringue Pie which was exceptional. My wife commented on the meringue, soft inside and deliciously crispy on top, with cream on the side. Perfect. No better way to have lunch, except there is a new Gin menu. Very tempting, but another time!

Visited with 'local' relatives on our trip from Cardiff. What a wonderful café/gallery/shop: Debbie had reserved our table for six and soon took our orders, the Cumberland sausage with pancake and maple syrup was scrumptious. The lemon meringue pie, served warm with clotted cream and ice cream was gorgeous. The ambience was very relaxed with lots of fun banter exchanged: the art work on sale was highly stylised and so original. If it wasn't for the 600 mile round-trip we'd join our family at Her Citi on a regular basis!

If you are into a savory Cheese Scone then come here. I had this with a bowl of home made Tomato and basil soup. Scone came hot with butter to add. As well as cheese it had mixed herbs or similar within the mix. Well Done!

Lovely cafe just down from Georgian Fleming Square and not far from the Roman Museum. Food was home cooked and delicious with generous portions and great value for money. The panini was the most filled we’ve ever seen with a beautiful salad. The lemon meringue pie was fabulous. Debbie the owner was so welcoming and the cafe had a warm ambiance with a display of art and lovely furniture. Would highly recommend.

We attended for afternoon tea, sat down with a chat with the owner and made to feel welcome and happy. A pot of tea and a large gin started the afternoon. A play EPF sandwiches came out, egg, ham, salmon, cheese and ham to name a few.Ffooled by the size of the plate i asked for more which was given without issue. Little did I know there was a second round of cake and scones to come. The Scottish tablet was a particular delight, with a lovely raspberry mouse which really cleansed the pallet. We spent about 2 hrs on the place eating chatting with the staff and looking at the clothing on sale. We left with full bellies, a great experience and my wife had 2 jackets. All in all this was a great afternoon

We went to the cafe after becoming intrigued by the window displays and found a fabulous cafe we will return to. The owner was very welcoming and my husband was delighted with the new gherkin chutney recipe. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be back.

Visited on Tuesday 11 October whilst on a 2 week holiday after reading the other reviews. I'm so glad I did. The food is outstanding. The soup was clearly homemade and tasted superb. The paninis were very full and delicious, accompanied with crisps and salad. The shop itself adds to the experience as it has a unique ambience and some history to it which the owner kindly explained to us. All in all a must go to in Maryport - the best coffee and lunch in town with a story to tell and an owner with personality and warmth.

This is in my view one of THE great cafes. It has everything - great food, atmosphere, people - and above all the wonderful Debbie to make you feel extremely welcome - with or without your dog. It is so laid back that the telephone number listed here, and on the website, hasn't functioned for more than 3 years. I live in Edinburgh but a visit to this cafe will leave you wanting to move to Maryport.

Visiting Her Citi for the first time today I was more than pleasantley suprised with the warm welcome and comfortable décor. Even more so when my Parsnip & Apple soup arrived with a warm cheese scone! Spectacular flavour and satisfyingly filling even after a long cycle ride. I will definitely be coming back here and spreading the word to all my friends.

Had a fantastic afternoon tea for my daughters 22nd birthday treat. A wonderful selection of fresh sandwiches, pink meringues, warm fresh scones and vegetarian options. As always the cafe has a friendly, happy, warm atmosphere run by amazing hosts Debbie and Dave cooking up the treats! If you are looking for somewhere for a birthday party, afternoon tea, meet with friends or a table for two with a glass of fizz, you will never go wrong with this jewel of a cafe in Maryport.

We visited for the first time with our tandem on Saturday and will definitely be returning. Such a friendly and welcoming little tea room, serving delicious coffee and lovely homemade tea cakes. The owner was so friendly and let us leave our tandem in the outside seating area while we visited which was so kind and very much appreciated. The cakes looked amazing too! For another time. Would highly recommend this lovely cafe on a visit to Maryport.
