Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As soon as we walked in we felt welcome and comfortable. We sat on cosy settees around a beautiful log burning stove to have our pre dinner drinks . Although our table was booked for 6-30pm we didn’t sit down at our table until 7pm-...it was so lovely in front of the fire . We weren’t rushed to our table - and as a result felt so relaxed and at ease . It’s s gorgeous pub- full of character with beams and very friendly owners and staff. The menu was extensive with an excellent specials board including individual filled Yorkshire puddings - which my husband declared absolutely delicious. We really can’t fault this place : excellent food , good local beer , friendly staff, great value for money and an excellent ambiance. If you haven’t been before - please go. You won’t be disappointed.More

Visited on Tuesday night and found a real hidden gem of a pub with good food and great staff. Despite the name it's not a touristy pub and the vibe is of a relaxed, cozy local pub. We had the seabream special which was served...on crushed potatoes and the sausage and mash, both came with a big side portion of seasonal veg. Superb meal, didn't have to wait long and it tasted fantastic. Huge portions but we still managed to find room for pud. Well worth a visit if you're ever in Ulverston.More

Had evening dinner here midweek, a wonderful hidden gem. Great service from staff, a good range of very nice ales and the food is brilliant. Menu includes some pub favourites and they also have some daily specials. Very tasty food, good portions if you have...a big appetite and all for a very reasonable price.More

Lovely welcome when arrived. Great choice of local hand pulled ales. I’d recommend the Pink Elephant 😊. We’d booked a table for 5 adults and a baby and a dog and were tucked away in a corner with plenty of room and a high chair...waiting for us. One of the reasons we chose the pub was it had sausage and mash on the menu and those in our family that chose that were not disappointed. 3 plump sausages, lots of creamy mash and great gravy. All in all a lovely meal in a lovely pub with lovely attentive staff. I would thoroughly recommendMore

We booked, and I'm glad, as it was busy with it being a Friday. Super care was taken with our orders, as we had one vegan and one with a gluten intolerance. They couldn't have been more helpful. Had a cracking meal, incl starters, mains...and puds, all up to an excellent standard. Coffee was super too. Would definitely returnMore

Lovely lunch at the Stanley with good friends. Service was extremely good and food really well presented. Added bonus of being able to have our dog with us. I had a prawn salad with fresh new potatoes, it was colourful and very tasty with no...shortage of prawns. Friend said his Fisherman’s pie was to be recommended as was the salmon. Nice quiet atmosphere and we will certainly return when next in Ulverston.More

Great food absolutely massive portions lovely little find. Called in on the off chance and was soon seated and presented with the menu and spoilt for choice. We opted for the prawn salad and the Mexican chilli and when the dishes were brought to the...table both of our jaws hit the table and our eyes popped at the sheer size of the plates of food before us. Absolutely gorgeous food we were both so full we couldn’t even imagine having a dessert. Well done guys. 100% value for money and way cheaper than what we’re used to paying at homeMore

The Stan Laurel Inn is a lovely pub just a couple of hundred yards from the small terraced house in which he was born in 1890. The house is in Argyle Street and has a plaque on the wall, so is easy to spot. The...pub is a really cosy place with real fire, exposed ceiling beams, old wooden pillars and the like. It is furnished in traditional style and, as you might suspect, is full of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. Rather than being touristy, this is obviously a local pub and the atmosphere was relaxed and very nice. The service and ales were also top class and this is easily one of the best pubs in Ulverston.More

Probably the best pub style dining experience I've ever witnessed! A truly warm and inviting welcome from the most beautiful landlady and her staff made me feel so comfortable from the start, followed by delicious home cooked food which would be awarded Michelin stars at...any larger establishment completed a unique night I'll never forget. Wow! Very busy as the locals obviously know where the quality is, so I advise booking early to avoid disappointment.More
