Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The service here today was absolutely appalling! Staff have basically threw everything on the table and grabbed menus from our hands! The presentation of the food was disgusting and having to wait for milk for a cup of tea which should have been handed at...the same time while they served other customers wasn’t the best service!More

Absolutley shocking food and the service was even worse. Dont go there! People vote with their feet, with so much competition around they need to get thier house in order.

We were surprised to find that at 7pm on a Saturday they weren't as busy as other places we had tried to book. Perhaps because it was bonfire weekend and Oily's is out of town. The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant. We had a well...cooked and presented meal which was good value, particularly the "special". Portions were good, and there was a wide choice on the menu, including children's meals. Drinks were reasonably priced too and the staff friendly and helpful. Perhaps because they were not particularly busy, we were served fairly quickly. We took photos before leaving and the landlord even offered to take one of us all. We will definitely go back.More

Until looking up why it was called Oilys, it seemed a weird name for a restaurant. We stayed locally and ate here both nights! The food is very good, with some unusual dishes. The staff are faultless and friendly. I can't recommend this place enough.

What a great find! We were staying at a nearby hotel so had spotted Oilys on a drive out. We read some reviews and booked a table, as suggested. The staff were lovely. It had a more relaxed feel which I was pleasantly surprised at....Someone came over to take our drinks order straight away and took the food order not long after. They do have a specials menu, which we didn’t spot but we were not disappointed with what we had! I thought there were plenty of options available and am sure that there is an option for most people. I loved that they had written on the menu which businesses their produce had been sourced from. It’s all local and I just thought it was a fantastic idea that they were supporting local businesses too! Our food was fantastic and the portions were generous in size and beautifully cooked. My partner had the mixed grill and we both could not believe the portion size! I had the cod and chips which came with peas and a salad and again was cooked very well. Looking at the menu, I was worried that the prices were a bit steep for what was on offer but the portion sizes and quality of the food more than justifies the charge. I like that on the website they tell you a little bit about the history of the place too. A must visit if you’re nearby! I would book a table to make sure you can get one!More

Visiting my home town from Australia. Went to Oily’s and was so impressed we went back a week later. The menu is extensive and we found multiple dishes that we were interested in. The service was outstanding and the meals were all plentiful and delicious....Two thoroughly enjoyable nights out. Thanks to all staff. We loved it. 😃More

Popped in speculatively on a Sat afternoon & was surprised at how busy it was & that most people had booked a table. We had a steak sandwich in baguette & the steak was thick “proper” steak, was beautiful. Over & above the norm, will...definitely return.More

We went as a table of 15 for a Christmas get together. We were asked to pre-order and we were happy with this; especially with the large number of people - the food arrived shortly after sitting down. However, the food arrived sporadically at the...table and not all together. Additionally, the sides also arrived sporadically and came 10 minutes following the first main plate arriving - I had finished my main course before my sides arrived. Sadly, the steak pie was cold in the middle and this was the case for 3 family members. This was disappointing; but the staff member dealt with this diligently and appropriately - she was a credit. Overall - okay. I may come back as a smaller group, but not as a larger group: it was almost as if the establishment was overwhelmed.More

The food is always guaranteed to be good here, a good menu with plenty of variety and also a specials board. Nice friendly staff especially the young blonde haired waitress who works on a Monday evening. Proper chips instead of the frozen variety from other...places. Definitely recommend it.More

We went here last night at first was nice clean and tidy went to the bar got served right away for drinks and was told there would be a wait for food as we hadn't booked but that was absolutely fine and we were seated...and happy to wait, we didn't wait around long and got our orders taken straight away, we ordered the nachos, garlic mushrooms, lasange, scampi salad, burger and chips for the side (there was 4 of us and i didnt get a main myself as I'm not a big eater anyways) nachos were lovely couldn't fault them, the rest of the meal arrived not long after.. The scampi salad was more salad than scampi and the salad seemed to be just a one you would get out of tescos already pre-made sort of thing, burger was really nice and chips were also lovely but when it came to the lasange my partner had he was trying his best to eat it as his a quiet person and doesn't want any fuss but after eating some said he didn't feel well and had to go the toilet as he felt sick, we all tried it because it didn't look that bad but indeed we agreed and it just didn't taste right, so when the waiter came over I brought this up to be told he would see the chef about this, no time later he came from the kitchen to be told as he had ate more then 3 quarters of the lasange they would not refund the meal, I advised myself that he certainly hadnt even ate half the lasange for him to turn around with attitude and walk off so I'm now like definitely put off going back now. I was that mad that I just walked out and left them all to pay, he was then advised at the bar when paying there had been 27 people that night that had ordered lasange and not one complained (there taste buds must not be working as all 4 of us said it wasn't nice at all) with saying this he advised he will take the glass of coke off the bill (yes a glass of coke is certainly not a substitute for a main meal that was not enjoyable at all) in the end my partner was like you no what it is what it is and just paid, sorry we won't be back and it was disappointing as we all had babysitters just for the night off, lesson learned always read the reviews.More
