Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We were surprised to find that at 7pm on a Saturday they weren't as busy as other places we had tried to book. Perhaps because it was bonfire weekend and Oily's is out of town. The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant. We had a well cooked and presented meal which was good value, particularly the "special". Portions were good, and there was a wide choice on the menu, including children's meals. Drinks were reasonably priced too and the staff friendly and helpful. Perhaps because they were not particularly busy, we were served fairly quickly. We took photos before leaving and the landlord even offered to take one of us all. We will definitely go back.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive.
Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service.
The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early.
Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.

What a great find! We were staying at a nearby hotel so had spotted Oilys on a drive out. We read some reviews and booked a table, as suggested.
The staff were lovely. It had a more relaxed feel which I was pleasantly surprised at. Someone came over to take our drinks order straight away and took the food order not long after.
They do have a specials menu, which we didn’t spot but we were not disappointed with what we had!
I thought there were plenty of options available and am sure that there is an option for most people.
I loved that they had written on the menu which businesses their produce had been sourced from. It’s all local and I just thought it was a fantastic idea that they were supporting local businesses too!
Our food was fantastic and the portions were generous in size and beautifully cooked. My partner had the mixed grill and we both could not believe the portion size! I had the cod and chips which came with peas and a salad and again was cooked very well.
Looking at the menu, I was worried that the prices were a bit steep for what was on offer but the portion sizes and quality of the food more than justifies the charge. I like that on the website they tell you a little bit about the history of the place too.
A must visit if you’re nearby! I would book a table to make sure you can get one!

Awful. Terrible food and terrible service. Was told on the phone that would accommodate vegan, menu was all marked V not VE, asked staff about vegan options and just got told to look at the menu. Had creamy garlic mushrooms (as I didn't know what on the menu could be made vegan without being told) that were inedible and was tasteless grey gruel. Rest of party's food was cold. All veg frozen slop. At £16 per meal the food was a joke. Brought out drinks one by one, ignored by staff on multiple occasions and also shouted at by one of them who I think was manager

The service here today was absolutely appalling! Staff have basically threw everything on the table and grabbed menus from our hands! The presentation of the food was disgusting and having to wait for milk for a cup of tea which should have been handed at the same time while they served other customers wasn’t the best service!

Stopped off here on Friday
New to area and looking for “our place” for a regular pint and bite to eat.
Although not a pub, and not having the best curb appeal the food and the friendly staff are great .
We both had the lamb, portions were more than generous, very well cooked, delicious.
Will be back
Thank you

We went here last night at first was nice clean and tidy went to the bar got served right away for drinks and was told there would be a wait for food as we hadn't booked but that was absolutely fine and we were seated and happy to wait, we didn't wait around long and got our orders taken straight away, we ordered the nachos, garlic mushrooms, lasange, scampi salad, burger and chips for the side (there was 4 of us and i didnt get a main myself as I'm not a big eater anyways) nachos were lovely couldn't fault them, the rest of the meal arrived not long after.. The scampi salad was more salad than scampi and the salad seemed to be just a one you would get out of tescos already pre-made sort of thing, burger was really nice and chips were also lovely but when it came to the lasange my partner had he was trying his best to eat it as his a quiet person and doesn't want any fuss but after eating some said he didn't feel well and had to go the toilet as he felt sick, we all tried it because it didn't look that bad but indeed we agreed and it just didn't taste right, so when the waiter came over I brought this up to be told he would see the chef about this, no time later he came from the kitchen to be told as he had ate more then 3 quarters of the lasange they would not refund the meal, I advised myself that he certainly hadnt even ate half the lasange for him to turn around with attitude and walk off so I'm now like definitely put off going back now. I was that mad that I just walked out and left them all to pay, he was then advised at the bar when paying there had been 27 people that night that had ordered lasange and not one complained (there taste buds must not be working as all 4 of us said it wasn't nice at all) with saying this he advised he will take the glass of coke off the bill (yes a glass of coke is certainly not a substitute for a main meal that was not enjoyable at all) in the end my partner was like you no what it is what it is and just paid, sorry we won't be back and it was disappointing as we all had babysitters just for the night off, lesson learned always read the reviews.

I am Blind, therefore, have to use the PC with specialized audible software but I will never allow my disabilities to overshadow my abilities.
It WAS ok when they had a Chef but a friend and I went the other week on a Saturday morning (It was the day of the Grand National, my mate was in his electric wheelchair and had his assistance dog with him, apparently they didn't have a Chef so Claire (the manager had stepped in result the food was abysmal time from ordering to being served was 47 minutes. I had to visit disabled toilets twice no room to move they were using them to store vacuum cleaners and cardboard boxes.
Don't go there they haven't a clue OVERPRICED

A very comfortable place to eat and nothing too much trouble for the staff. The beef is perfectly cooked and the portions are more than generous, the veg. Is varied and piping hot We have been tl most hotels in the area for meals and Oily,s will take a lot of beating.

First of all my food took 50 minutes to be made and then when it came it was cold and the meat was dryer than a nuns downstairs area. Furthermore when I confronted the manager about this she told me to buy another and that I could not get it refunded. I then ordered a pint of Fosters as they had no good options so I made do but when i saw it being brought over I saw the waitress taking gulps out of it and say “sorry it’s just been a long day”. It was 1:10 for Christ sake the absolute rat den had only been open for one hour. Anyway when I went to get up and leave one of the staff (who was the same one that was taking gulps out of my pint) pointed out I hadn’t left a tip…

Visited this Restaurant based on reviews & was not disappointed. The Restaurant is well laid out and the staff friendly and helpful. On the day we visited it was very busy which resulted in a little delay in our meals arriving, but they were worth the wait. The food was well cooked and well presented with good sized portions. Can recommend this venue.

I haven't been to Oily's for a long time and reading reviews on here, decided to give it a try. Noticing a specials board, with meals in the £8-9 range, I decided to try the plaice with peas, new potatoes and salad. For the money, my meal was excellent value, with the portion of plaice being large and well cooked, the new potatoes being done in butter and the salad generous.
Staff were friendly and service quick and the view on to the fells is nice on a fine day. I would recommend Oily's to anyone who wants a reasonably priced and decent pub meal for under £ 10 and the pub. However, you do need a car to get to the pub as it's 3 miles out of Workington.

This is the first time that we've eaten at Oily's and we weren't dissapointed.
When we arrived just after 12 o'clock the place was very quiet but it soon filled up. We all decided on the Roast Beef as our main course, then when the meals arrived we were taken back by the large amount of beef on each of the plates, which was accompanied by a large Yorkshire pud and a range of vegetables, when we finished our main course we decided not to have a dessert as we were too full. We couldn't have had better service if we tried. We would certainly look to go back again in the future - Well done to management & staff.

Hi guys, as most of you are aware, I am Blind and I use the computer with the aid of specialised audible assistive software but I will NEVER allow my disability to overpower my ABILITIES.
I work with a group called `Disability Facilities Commission who pay me to visit hotels/Restaurants all over the North West at the moment.
Today I had the pleasure of visiting Oilys,
Before entering and getting from a well laid out car Park both of us noticed there weren't as many obstacles as there are in other places, no obstacles to navigate like steps it was perfect.
I say pleasure because when we entered, me with my white cane and the wife on sticks we weren't singled out and led off to some far distant corner of the restaurant (as believe it or not I have been in some establishments).to be treated like some `Broken` customers.
No, we were treated with respect, the same as EVERYONE else.
We started with a hot brew to warm ourselves up - followed by the most delicious meal I have tasted in a long while.
The service was fantastic - the staff whilst not being intrusive were very friendly.
I totally recommend this establishment and we'll definitely be returning.
