We absolutely love the Duncombe arms, its friendly atmosphere and amazing staff make for a great night. The food we had was exceptional and very affordable. We also stayed in the Walnut house and the rooms were perfect in every way.

Dear Bpysical We love you too! Thanks for your continued support we really appreciate it. So pleased you liked you night in The Walnut House, it really is special. Best wishes Johnny Greenall
We ate here last night, a group of seven of us. The food was very underwhelming for the price, no seasoning, no vegetables served or offered when we ordered. I would not recommend this to anyone I'm afraid , save your money and go elsewhere....Only one vegan option on the menu. I had the sole which was breaded whole with the bones in, it was very dry and tasteless. I've heard so much hype about this place but it was disappointing food especially for the money they are charging. My mum had the pork which was very fatty.More
Dear Madam I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience. Following you r review I went and tried those items on the menu you had and what a juxtaposition! It seems that the price point sealed our fate! Best wishes Johnny Greenall
We were gifted a voucher for a meal here and what a beautiful meal it was . The food was exemplary as it always is here ,the ribeye steak is always perfectly cooked from my personal point of view . The atmosphere was friendly and...relaxed,and the staff were really attentive but not over bearing . We were even given some lovely chocolates on a decorated “happy anniversary plate”truly . Highly recommended xMore
Dear 256sadiec, Thanks for your lovely 5 star review. We are so pleased you had a lovely time for your special occasion and the team gave you you the best attention. Your recommendation is really appreciated and we hope you will be back at The...More
An excellent venue for lunch or dinner. We went to celebrate a birthday and were delighted with the birthday surprise. The mussels and cheese souffle were outstanding. The venison sausage and mash were very good with an exceptional chutney. We did not notice that there...were no vegetables included and wish it had been pointed out when we were ordering as a meal without vegetables is rather odd and lacking balance! We loved the decor and ambience and the staff were good. It was pretty good value for the standard of food. We will return.More
Dear Raineygay, Thanks for choosing The Duncombe Arms for your special occasion and I am delighted you had a good time. I have noted your point about vegetables and look forward to seeing you back with us in the near future. Best wishes Johnny Greenall
Overall a lovely gastropub experience. Pleasant ambience and a beautiful setting. The menu was really exciting and our party of 6 sampled lots of starters and mains. We reflected that it was on, on the whole, very tasty but lacked the wow factor you’d hope...for from that price point. Service was reasonable but felt like they were busy.More
Dear Agreendegree Thanks for posting a review and I am sorry that you felt the price was not reflected in the experience because we were busy. I really hope you will trey us again and we look forward to welcoming you. Best wishes Johnny Greenall
Absolutely superb meal and very attentive staff. Will definitely visit again. Can highly recommend the ribeye steak and sticky toffee pudding
Dear Sharon, Thanks for your wonderful 5 star review. So pleased you had a lovely time and that you will be back and hopefully soon! Best wishes Johnny Greenall
An absolute gem. Despite not having a reservation for lunch on an obviously very busy day, we were very warmly welcomed and accommodated at a suitable table. The food was worth every penny. Yes, some of the menu may be more expensive than some are...used to paying but the quality of ingredients, service and surroundings easily made it worthwhile. We loved the relaxed vibe from the experienced, knowledgeable and professional staff. For those with limited mobility there is a ramp from the carpark to the bar and also a separate one for the restaurant. Even if you have to make a big detour, do try out this restaurant. We can't wait to go back, but 5 hours plus drive each way means we may have to wait a while.More
Dear Taytours, Thank you for your 5 star review and recommendation following your visit. We are delighted that you had a lovely time and hope that you will motor down sometime soon so can experience the new menu which is definitely worth the five hour...More
Great service, very attentive and made to feel very welcome. Good that menus could be mixed. Food was of a high standard and lots of choice. Scallops are a must. Definitely be back.More

What an amazing place! The room was stunning, bathroom and shower fab, clean and quiet, with beautiful views over the Staffordshire countryside. The staff were friendly and attentive, just the right balance. The public areas had a great atmosphere, were cosy and beautifully designed and...the food was delicious. Both breakfast and lunch were perfectly cooked, tasty and obviously using quality local ingredients. This is definitely going to be our new bolt hole! Thank you and see you soon xMore
Amanda Wow what a review! So pleased your going to use as as your bolt hole following your recent visit. We really loved your 5 star review and are delighted you had a lovely time. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Duncombe...More
We really loved our stay here. The service was excellent and the food well-deserving of the Michelin bib gourmande accolade. There is a comprehensive wine list to suit all tastes and pockets. Breakfasts were delicious as well, and I especially appreciated the croissants. Both in...the evening and at breakfast, menu choices were perhaps a bit more limited than we have had at other places, but the quality of everything meant that didn't matter. The accommodation had everything we wanted (including fresh milk) and was quiet and very comfortable.More

This was a fabulous setting for a meal, and it was lovely to be in the open air on a lovely warm evening. I liked the throws on the chairs in case it got chilly. The menu had a good range of choices and the...food was phenomenonal. Literally one of the best meals we've eaten. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. We will definitely return when we come back to the Peak District.More

Had fab late afternoon drinks and birthday dinner with family. Even when it got a little busy on Friday afternoon, the beers kept coming, the service was faultless. Dinner was as good as could possibly be expected with special mention for the steak and the...pithivier. We stayed over in one of the new rooms, with a lovely view. Top marks for the breakfast. Some of the recent reviews on here have been really, really awful - they bear absolutely no resemblance to what we saw. I can only assume that these are competitor bots, made seemingly believable through dreadful grammar and poor spelling.More
Dear Jim Firstly thanks for your lovely 5 star review and secondly for being an advocate for The Duncombe Arms re other reviews. This is truly appreciated as the team try their very hardest to give every customer a great experience on our service, the...More
We visited on a Friday evening with friends and were greeted by a very well dressed host (he set the tone for the evening). We had not visited before but on first appearances we knew we were in for a good evening. The stylish host...made us feel extremely welcome, it can be quite intimidating arriving at a very busy establishment but the young man put us at ease ushering us through the busy crowd straight to the bar where we were served and looked after immediately by the bar team, we felt like VIPs! We had a few fantastic cocktails and some very well kept beer I may add and were then shown to our table by a very pleasant waitress. The amazing service was equally matched with amazing food, we were not rushed and each course came out at a nice pace. Yes, the prices are high here but I firmly believe you get what you pay for and that was the case here. We will definitely be returning!More
Dear James Many thanks for posting a 5 star review following you visit to The Duncombe Arms. I think the headline says it all 'slick and Stylish so thanks a million for your kind words. We hope you will come and see us again in...More
Absolutely amazing service and food. Our favourite place to go and never fails to blow us away. James and Amelia looked after us tonight so we were in good hands. Amazing…. Highly recommend
Dear Bphysical, Thanks for your lovely 5 star review and recommendation. We are delighted you had a great time and hope to see you back with us soon. Best wishes Johnny Greenall
We stayed at The Duncombe Arms for 2 nights , bed , breakfast and dinner . The room was stylishly furnished and decorated , very comfortable and had great views .There was also a small outside space with a table and chairs , which was...great as the weather was hot . We really enjoyed our evening meal , the food was well cooked and of high quality, I had a wonderful pork chop one night and cod loin the next . They obviously have great food suppliers . The service was welcoming and well judged . The pub had a tidy outdoor space , great for an afternoon drink . All in all we had a great stay and would book again if we are in the area. My only criticism of the whole experience was that the mirror in the bathroom was aimed at six footers rather than those us of nearer 5ft ! Thank you Duncombe ArmsMore
Dear Lizzy Many thanks for your 5 star review. We are delighted you had a lovely time and apologies about the mirror! We hope you will come and see us again in the near future. Best wishes Johnny Greenall
