A really popular venue which had a queue most of the time we were there on a Monday lunchtime.
Good for sandwiches and a small brunch menu. They also offer a wide range of fresh juices and smoothies. They were incredibly understaffed but remained friendly and service was surprisingly fast under the circumstances.
A sandwich and two fresh orange juices were around £14. Sadly the sandwich was served in a plastic basket and the drinks were in plastic beakers. Other venues are able to use crockery and real glasses so why all the plastic here? This isn’t trendy and lost a star because of it. If the beakers are recyclable there was no mention on the menu.
Being able to sit outside in mid September sunshine was a real bonus.

When visiting Ashbourne on our way for a Sunday's hiking in Dovedale we stopped at 'Jack Rabbits' for breakfast. The place is modern and very nicely decorated giving it a very trendy and appealing feel. The menu has some healthy options and those that we chose were of good quality and reasonable value, (maybe a little on the more pricey side of what we'd consider to be average for a weekend breakfast out). The breakfast roll I had certainly hit the spot. A soft sourdough roll with bacon, sausage and fried egg was just what I needed before a day hiking in the Peak District. My daughter had the pancakes and they looked amazing, which she confirmed they were. Inside and outside seating and a clean customer toilet. Good adherence to Covid-19 measures and prompt service, (although we were the first to arrive). Breakfast and drinks for the four of us came to £48, paid for by card.

The special offer during August was the last thought on my mind as I met my daughter here for a quick lunch and chat. We both ordered a beef sandwich and a fresh berry smoothie. We hadn’t booked or anything but they found us seats outside, it was a very hot day, the lunch was in disposable cartons and I asked for salt and pepper. The waiter said we couldn’t have it because of the virus. Is this to be the trend from now on? Do we have to eat outside even in winter? The meal was cheap because of the government scheme, it was good food but I hate rules and restrictions. I think a lot of people will be eating at home for the foreseeable future. How restaurants will survive in the long term, I don’t know.

Waited ages to be seated, then it wasn’t explained that we could take any empty table although they had reserved on them. We nearly walked away then realised that they had the signs on them to discourage passers by from just sitting get down.
Had to ask for a menu food came quickly but the waiter walked around aimlessly asking all the tables if they had ordered salmon before finding us, then threw the bag at us. Food was good but very overpriced what happened to passing on the VAT relief?
Will go to Costas next time!

Nice location but could be cleaner like cutlery and floor etc. Our waiter was great and very accommodating. But we found Jack Rabbits to be extortion. £8 for an American pancake. The menu even says "pancake" not pancakes which I hadn't noticed until I ordered what I thought would be 3 pancakes maybe. But one small size pancake came out. For £8. This is actually daylight robbery and taking a laugh. The waiter quickly sorted it and got me a second as I complained. The maple syrup pancake had barely a teaspoon of syrup on it. The taste was lovely. The blueberries were great. But the price just flabbergasted me. For what it costs to make pancakes and the time to cook them, you could easily serve a stack for no extra within the £8. Other members in the party enjoyed their breakfast roll and my friend had a toasted cheese sandwich. The cheese wasn't melted and again, we felt £8 for this was ridiculous. We were expecting for these prices something above and beyond. Unfortunately we won't be coming back to Jack Rabbits unless they stop ripping people off. What a joke!

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. We have elevated our already high standards of hygiene, incorporating additional deep cleaning and disinfecting procedures and frequency. At the time you dined with us outside in the courtyard the staff had not had time to sweep under your table before you were sat. The cutlery is all soaked in, rinsed, put through the commercial dishwasher and polished.
We have incurred higher costs to implement safety arrangements and our suppliers have done the same passing the cost on to us. We have also had to reduce the number of customers that we would normally have in cafe at any one time to comply with social distancing guidelines. The pancake you had ordered minus the banana and strawberries should have come with more blueberries, yoghurt and maple syrup in replacement of and I can only apologise for this. The grilled cheese sandwich is made with local vintage cloth wrapped cheddar, cream and homemade sourdough bread and grilled with butter. The produce we use is of the very best quality and this reflects in the price to the customer. We take all feedback extremely seriously and would very much like for you to come back and have a complimentary pancake and drink with us.
Kindest regards
Laura

Service was ok. Although they all seem a bit confused as to why you are waiting to be seated, despite the signs stating to do so. Food was poor, sandwich was tasteless and bread was tough. I asked for slaw on the side (after finding out that the sandwiches come with nothing, not even salad) and it was absolutely vile. Food comes in a paper bag thrown on your table by a surly waitress. Best part of my meal was the bag of crisps I bought.

Unfortunately, our restaurant of choice (Lamplight) was unexpectedly closed today (17th June) so we tried Jack Rabbits, as it looked smart with plenty of outdoor seating. After waiting at the designated point, we were directed to a used table with dirty crockery on it - when there were plenty of already clean tables. We ordered and 10 minutes later the food arrived, but only one meal was what we ordered (and the table next to us had the same problem). So, I ate on my own (a bacon and sausage bun - but no offer of brown sauce!) whilst my wife waited another 10 minutes for her food. That was a hot bacon and cheese bun, but served in a plastic basket - very difficult to cut, should have been on a plate (like our neighbours had, when they ordered the same item). Coffee was luke warm, the staff never checked if things were okay (perhaps because they knew they weren't) and things were not cheap (£3.25 for a slice of toast with butter and jam). So, poor service, poor food and overly expensive for what we got. Shame, as the location is okay.

Management
Good morning,
Firstly, I would like to apologise for your experience here at Jack Rabbits. This is not the experience we like our customers to have, as we are constantly striving for high standards of food and service. Especially during these uncertain times.
We are going through a period of training, and adjustment, and a clear mistake was made when you were seated. This is not acceptable, and this issue has been dealt with.
Secondly, I would like to address your concerns regarding our food and pricing. We only offer in house made and local produce, and aim for the best. Therefore we want to offer our guests the best of what we have.
We have addressed the points raised in your review, and appreciate your feedback.

Where to start, the smallest cup of flat white I have ever had (£3.20) and very bitter indeed. The wind blew the oversized menu off the table and knocked over a drink. The staff just stood and watched while my wife cleared up the spillage with napkins, which were then left on the table for the duration of the meal. Which brings me onto the food. Nigel’s Bacon and Brie roll was very overpriced and underwhelming - £7.95 for a burger bun sized roll, one rasher of bacon and some sliced tomato and a piece of lettuce. On opening the bun we managed to find the Brie but there was so little of it, it barely covered a quarter of the bun and we had to request it was taken back to the chef to add more. The breakfast roll was ok, a little greasy, but again overpriced. In summary, premium prices for barely average food. Assume this establishment is surviving on tourists. Oh, and you have to pay at your table upon ordering rather than when you have eaten.

As we hadn’t been before we tried to order on entering. We were told to take a seat and someone would come and take our order. The only seating left was strewn with previous diner’s plates and cups but we cleared a space and sat down. They had clearly underestimated demand being one of the few places open on New Year’s day. After nearly 20 minutes waiting I suggested we try elsewhere, but my partner persuaded me we could try and order again at the counter. She went over - and was told to return to her seat. A man then set off in our direction with a tablet in his hand, but instead of coming to us, he engaged in a long conversation with people at another table, so once it was clear our custom was not wanted or welcome we left. We had lunch at the nearby Costa instead where staff were cheerful and efficient and I wholeheartedly recommend you do the same.

At many lunch venues when you order a ham sandwich with lettuce for £5.50, it would arrive with butter on the bread and some relish or mayonnaise, accompanied with a small portion of coleslaw or similar and perhaps even a few crips. Today, at Jack Rabbit's I ordered 'Nigel's ham sandwich'. It arrived carelessly presented, no spread on the dry bap, no mayonnaise or relish or accompaniment. just a bap with ham (very nice-well done Nigel), thick slices of cucumber (no tomato by the way) and little gem lettuce, including a large lettuce heart that could not stay in the bap. This was disappointing, and barely worth half the price.
As we started our meal, someone apologised that they were moving furniture around but that every 3 months they deep clean and paint everything. Two members of staff then sat on the floor of the cafe, chatting and painting the legs of two tables and the backs of chairs.
How anyone can think this is appropriate whilst people are eating is beyond me.
We will never go back to Jack Rabbits. I consider the meal we had to be a waste of money. You have to pay before you eat which I urge people to resist until you have seen the standard of the food.
The pot of tea was ok.

Very disappointing lunch at Jack Rabbits. The choice was limited and what arrived was an extremely overpriced, greasy (tasted fried) toasted cheese sandwich with a pot of over creamy coleslaw. No side salad or greenery in sight! It's such a shame as this restaurant used to serve lovely food. Not sure if it's changed hands in the last 12 months but I will not be returning! Disgusting!

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. The grilled cheese sandwich is made with homemade sourdough, local Vintage cloth wrapped cheddar with a little cream and is grilled with butter. The ingredients are the best and this reflects the cost to the customer. If you would like to visit us again we would be more than happy to make a grilled cheese sandwich without finishing it with butter. We take all feedback very seriously and we are sorry it wasn’t to your liking. We are adding to the menu each week. Myself and my husband have ran Jack Rabbits for the past 2 years and take all feedback very seriously.
Kindest regards

Visited here on my birthday and we were served by a rude member of staff. My mum asked if the beans on toast could be altered for a child to which we were bluntly told “no, it cannot be altered, it’s one slice of toast with beans”. Fair enough. My nan then went to pay and tapped her card on the screen to be told to tap it on the top, my nan who hardly ever goes out got confused and tapped her finger at the top of the card machine instead of using her card to which the staff member replied “no with your card you dollop, you haven’t even had your Prosecco yet” followed by a laugh. Whether it was intended as joke or not, we did not find this funny and instead found it unprofessional, extremely rude and upsetting. Food prices are expensive and the food does not reflect the price. Birthday morning ruined. Felt very uncomfortable after this and will not be returning.

Had a lovely evening at Jack Rabbits with family it was an evening of “music and food” a Scandinavian night with a classic themed menu and a playlist of Nordic pop. We enjoyed ABBA, A-ha and Avicii plus some other classic artists from the region. The food and service were excellent and the evening also included a themed quiz on your table if you wanted to take part with the winner getting a free bottle of wine. Apparently they are doing an event every weekend it was imaginative and fun….. it’s great to get OUT again and enjoy something different.

Unfriendly welcome from manager. Ordered from the 'specials board' and when requesting an item from the specials board we were bluntly told "we've run out of that" no "sorry" or a note on the specials board to say it was unavailable.
Service from another waitress acceptable but she was clearly working in fear and couldn't make any decisions without fear of upsetting the unfriendly rude manager.
Really disappointed as Jack Rabbits in Derby was great.
Breakfast roll at £8 was overpriced and the bread not fresh. Coffee good.
Wouldn't recommend.

Customer service woeful, had to wait awhile to be greeted. Our order was taken by a young man who was hurried and aloof. Ordered coffee’s and breakfast roll and bacon roll. Our food was more or less thrown at us in a brown paper bag, no napkins were given, my bacon roll was dry, no offer of sauce - nothing! No check back on our food which is disgraceful.
