We called in here for breakfast on a weekday. We both had a sausage and bacon sandwich on seeded bread with a green tea and an orange juice, it came to £17. The service was a little slow it took half an hour from ordering for the sandwiches to arrive and the restaurant wasn’t busy. I appreciate items are cooked probably to order but when I ordered our food at the till (something no one mentioned we needed to do when we sat down) there was lots of food on the grill cooking I think they must do takeaways as there was a vast amount of bacon being cooked. Which is why I could not understand how slow the breakfast was getting to us. The lady that served us was very friendly and the food tasty. If you look in the window don’t be put off if it’s busy because there is seating upstairs. I did use the toilet before I left which was very clean.

It was a busy Sunday in Castleton and we wanted a substantial lunch in the town. We came to Tilly's and were seated upstairs. The menu had a lot of usual tearoom options for a really fair price. I had a jacket potato and my boyfriend had the fish and chips which came with freshly cooked chips. We bought a slice of cake to go and were served by a very friendly couple. A great choice for lunch in Castleton that isn't a pub.

Visited Tilly's on our recent trip to the Peak District. Friendly welcome and big, comfy chairs to sit in. We ordered fish and chips and lasagna. Staff were very accommodating when asked to swap side dishes (salad for coleslaw etc). Service was quick and the food was divine! One of the best lasagnas I've ever eaten. My boyfriend had the fish and chips (his first ever!) and he loved it so much that he's ranked it as one of his favourite meals. Very generous portions and the perfect location to explore this beautiful village. Hands down one of the best lunches we've ever had...if only we lived closer!

Went for breakfast, the place wasn’t packed so assumed food would come in a timely manner. Not warned when we asked for a table we’d have to wait 50 minutes for the food to be served. After half an hour another couple came in and from what I could make out they might have been told there would be a wait for food. As we hadn’t been told that upon arrival, nor told while sat waiting, we assumed we wouldn’t be affected. There was no apology when our food came 50 minutes later and we’d already finished our pot of tea. The food had not been cooked to order: The fried egg was burnt underneath, rubbery, had brown crispy edges and was not hot, the tomatoes were burnt on top, mushrooms and veggie sausage ok, the ‘breakfast potatoes’ were potato cubes oven cooked probably from frozen, there were too many and were very dry. I left half of my breakfast. When we went to pay we were asked if everything was ok, we said the eggs were burnt and seemed pre-cooked and left out to stand. However we were still charged full whack, just shy of £20 for breakfast for two that was substandard. Customer service: let people know there is going to be an extended wait, offer a free pot of tea to compensate the last one had been drank before the food arrived, and maybe offer to reduce the bill. Reading another review they were told the eggs were cooked on the same hot plate as the bacon, I can’t confirm this but if this is true then they should not advertise a veggie breakfast. Even if the breakfast had been freshly cooked to order, which it wasn’t, 50 minutes wait is still unacceptable. Any decent chef wouldn’t have sent that food out and any decent waitress wouldn’t have served it. Thank goodness for Rose Cottage cafe over the road the following morning. Why not 1 star? Nice cup of tea.

Hello and we are very sorry for your bad experience which we conveyed to you at the time and also gave one of your party free wine from what I remember. Also all vegatarian sausages are not cooked on the grill and neither are vegan products, all are cooked in separate cookware for that purpose as one of the associates is vegan and takes this particularly seriously . We thank you for your comments and suggestions .

We came here for breakfast as our hotel was only doing takeaway breakfast because of COVID and we wanted a cooked breakfast before a day of walking. The decor was clean and fresh. The pot of loose leaf tea was lovely and so quaint. For breakfast we all ordered a full English but were all disappointed unfortunately. The sausages weren’t very nice at all. When cut open they were full of fatty looking pieces so don’t believe that they were high meat content. The poached eggs looked like they could have been cooked in a microwave and were like hard boiled eggs, no runny yolk at all. The top of the tomato was nicely grilled but when I cut a bit and popped it in my mouth it was cold throughout. We were all starving so ate the lot but didn’t particularly enjoy it. When I’m given a bad meal, I don’t like confrontation especially when other customers are around to listen (especially when the staff were so lovely and polite) so just paid my £50 and we left.

Waited 15 minutes to be served (at table) with a pot of tea, a latte & hot chocolate + 3 chocolate brownies... Had to ask for sugar & gave up on asking for serviettes as every request took an age... Although the cakes & drinks were nice, it really wasnt worth the amount of time we had to wait, especially as they were not actually that busy.

Me and my boyfriend stopped here on Sunday for lunch. After ordering food and drinks and being told there will be a bit of wait on food we sat and saw sereval other people around us getting food before us. We then thought we best check where to food was after 30-45 mins of waiting for it and they had completely lost the check and so therefore our food was non existent. Through working in hospitality ourselves we understand that Sunday is a busy day and that accidents happen so we just asked for a refund and luckily managed to get fish and chips just before they shut! ( delicious fish and chips I might add) however, we were quite surprised we weren’t offered our money back for our drinks or even a slice of cake for our wait and the fact we nearly went home without any food.

We previously visited this cafe in 2019 and really enjoyed the experience. This visit unfortunately was not very good. It was busy and we were told that we could have a table in the back room upstairs and told the table number. We went up and found the table in a small crowded room. A waitress brought some menus and said she would be back to take our order. We sat in this small room for about 45 minutes until I managed to catch her attention and place our order. We then had another very long wait for our food and drink. The waitress did apologise at one stage and said their were a lot of tickets. It seems to me that they are trying to cram in more people than they can comfortably deal with. The food was OK when we finally got it but it was not a pleasant experience sitting for so long in such a small space.

We had just come back from a longish circular walk from Castleton and were looking for a lighting lunch. So pleased we chose to eat at Tilly’s. Place felt clean and friendly when we went in. We got a table at the back - tables were reasonably well spaced. Quite a varied selection of food so took us a while to decide! I went for the ploughman’s lunch and my wife the Welsh Rarebit. The ploughman’s was excellent with a good selection of tasty cheese and ham with pork pie, pickle, salad etc. My idea of a perfect lunch! My wife enjoyed her rarebit but felt there was a cheese overload so wish she had tried something else. Overall an enjoyable lunch and happy to return.

We stopped here for lunch. We were sat upstairs in a big room with three tables. We were the first to sit down in there. The place soon had people at the other tables. We both had a jacket potato and various toppings with a pot of tea each. The food and tea arrived quickly and was nice and hot. The jacket potatoes were good. Oven cooked so had a good skin on them. They were tasty and a good serving of filling. My wife had cheese and beans on here and they had put it under a grill to crisp and brown the cheese on the potato which was a nice touch. A great spot for lunch in Castleton.

We'd booked ahead for lunch on what was a busy Saturday, once inside the staff of Tilly's were very good with socially distanced tables and asking for our track and trace details. The all day breakfast menu was excellent, and the service very quick. Very nice all round. And well done to the staff for embracing the government guidelines safely.

Fab tasting breakfast with good choice on the menu for all appetites... served on a plentiful plate that was nice and hot. Great attention to social distancing measures and good cleaning observed when we were sat eating.

Have been in before, thankfully a table was spare on a cold Sunday morning. so ordered the full English breakfast at £8.50 with 2 rashers of bacon, sausage, poached egg, mushrooms, potatoes, beans and toast. Delicious and very filling with quality ingredients served by young friendly staff in this welcoming cafe in the centre of Castleton. We had a tea each but unfortunately it stewed to quickly for our liking due to being leaves even hot water didn’t help but this was only a minor blip.

My husband and I visited today with my sister for coffee and cake. We ordered and paid on arrival (£25 for three coffees and three slices of cake). We waited for over half hour for our order to be brought to the table, however a member of staff came over to say that unfortunately the chocolate cake we had ordered had now been given to another customer. No apology, thinking this was a genuine oversight we amended the order. The next member of staff to come over said that she ‘knew we had been waiting a whole but that wewere not the priority, the larger party upstairs were’. Quite taken aback about her rudeness we waited again and the first member of staff came back to say he would Serve us when they had finished the order upstairs. We said yes your colleague told us we were not a priority, the people upstairs were’. Amazingly he agreed that that was the case no apology, nothing. So, so rude. Eventually our mediocre cake and coffee arrived Disgusted we ate and drank the cake and coffee and left. On leaving another member of staff called us back and shouted that we hadn’t paid. We have never felt so humiliated and angry in our whole lives Absolutely never ever again will be visit this establishment snd the absolutely obnoxious staff. Outraged.

We were staying locally but found out our B&B wasn't offering breakfast so we looked where we could come locally. I phoned in advance as were a group of 12 with 2 dogs & pre-booked our tables. It was requested we give our order a day or so before so we wouldn't have to wait too long for food. This was perfect for us as were off out on a hike afterwards. Everyone fully enjoyed their breakfast - all of which were huge! The staff were really nice too and very attentive to us. Glad we came across this place on TA and I would highly recommend! We did try to go back the following day even but were sadly fully booked at the time we arrived.
