We try to go once a week, always a warm welcome, staff are friendly and super efficient, food Is great whether you have a beautiful home made cake or more substantial meal everything is first class,a wide variety of hot a cold meals, soups and salads ,all made to order ,with fresh ingredients. The place is clean and tidy with a heated covered area at the back ideal for people with dogs,in summer you have a beautiful garden area with seating and tables and beautifully planted up .can highly reccomend you visit next time you are in castleton,a bonus is this tea room also has a licence for alchohol so it ticks all the boxes.

Enjoyed both breakfast and lunch at Rose Cottage. They offer a varied menu to suit every taste and size of appetite and the food is always freshly cooked. We enjoyed great meaty and vegetarian breakfasts here that were piping hot and cooked to order but still came in good time despite the cafe being busy (this made up for the previous day’s breakfast at Tilly’s that we waited over 50 minutes for with no apology and was then served with warm food including rubbery burnt eggs and burnt tomatoes, both of looked like they had been left to stand). Great cakes and afternoon tea. Friendly efficient staff too!

We chose to stop here because the cottage and surrounding buildings have an interesting history and it looked really nice inside. All the necessary precautions were in place for the current pandemic and we felt very comfortable with the way the staff seated us and took time to make sure the track and trace was done properly. Walking in you are led to your table, right past the counter laden with a selection of delicious looking cakes and desserts which worked as we ended up buying some!! Whilst we were waiting for our order to arrive I couldn't help but notice just how stacked the other diner's plates were and I honestly wondered if most of them would even manage to eat all that was presented to them... they did! We ordered tea and I had Bakewell tart which was sublime and probably one of the best I've tasted, my partner chose a chocolate brownie which, judging by the look on her face, went down a treat!! Pleasant attentive staff, good food, history and reasonable prices make this cafe a definite recommended from me!

+ excellent Guiness cake + local jewelerry on sale + decor + polite staff - ordering tea took three tries, as the serving staff continuously discoverd they were out of tea of various sorts. Once the order arrived, one of the teas was not whatbwas ordered. - chocolate cake was plated upside down - server couldn't even pronounce Darjeeling Overall, choose any other tea room in town.

Visited several times before but today was first time since Covid. Felt very safe and very normal, antibacterial handwash when you enter and then we were shown to a table in the garden. Completed trace details and then we were given menus and order was taken at the table. We had ham sandwiches served with a salad and crisps and small pots of coleslaw and picallili and we shared a portion of chips. Then shared a scone which was served hot with jam and clotted cream. All delicious, we will be visiting again soon and would definitely recommend.

We had breakfast here one morning, the food we had was fine just not the warmest of welcome by a young girl, an older lady arrived as we finished, possibly the owner, she was much more welcoming. Our drinks were bought to us on a plastic tray, which was plonked on our table. Perhaps a nice touch to actually take them off the tray and take the tray away? (Please don’t blame COVID!). The cakes looked good.

Stumbled upon this little gem while walking around Castleton. We sat down in the garden with the dog, which was lovely on a sunny day. We initially went in for some cream tea, but decided we'd try the salads first, and that was definitely a good decision. The goats cheese salad and the prawn and salmon salad were both delicious. We then gave in to temptation and had a couple of fruit scones with our cups of tea, and they were equally as good! Our dog got spoilt by the staff too as they kept fussing her and bringing her little dog treats. Lovely little tearoom, definitely a place to visit while in Castleton. We will be back!

This lovely cafe is situated in beautiful location of Castleton town. We visited here near christmas and it was beautifully decorated giving a feel of the festive season. This is a cozy cafe with lovely decor and warm ambience. We are vegetarian and hardly find good food options outside home or known places but this place serves amazing food. We came here after a long walk of Mom Tor in dense fog and 0 degree temprature and the delicious vegetarian food really made our day . Highly recommended and would definitely come again whenever we visit castleton...

We were staying in Castleton for a couple of nights and as I have to eat gluten free I always have to research the food available in the area. I read a review about Rose Cottage serving gluten free food so decided to try it. I was not disappointed. I had a bacon and onion omelette when I first arrived. My partner had grilled halloumi with sweet potato. Both meals were well presented and absolutely delicious. We decided to book in for breakfast for the following two mornings. Not only did the chef remember me the next morning but he prepared a gluten free breakfast that looked too good to eat , it was so well presented. As I cannot stand mushrooms there was extra bacon and hash brown. It was a substantial breakfast, delicious and definitely value for money. My partner had smoked salmon and poached eggs on sourdough bread the first morning and scrambled eggs with salmon the second. Both not only looked great but were delicious too, I was told. The chef obviously takes pride in his work. When I next stay in Castleton this is where I will be eating.

The interior is nice and the food is lovely. Unfortunately the service was very disappointing. The majority of the staff had an attitude problem. Out server kept trying to rush us and then didn’t return to our table for another thirty minutes. The server threw the cutlery down and did not adhere to social distancing (leaning over my sister to put a drink down not even asking if this was ok). When we wanted to split the bill at the end of the meal the waiter rolled his eyes and walked away to try and work it out. He was behaving like this was all too much trouble for him. (Which it shouldn’t be). Overall the food was good but certainly won’t be returning due to the bad attitude and customer service by the staff.

We have always had lovely meals here so decided to have my 70th birthday celebrations here. It was for 21 people. Chris was very helpful every step of the way. She had to adjust the menu several times to suit everyone's tastes. We exchanged quite a few emails. It was a lovely morning so we drove our german visitors through Edale. They loved the scenery. We walked into Rose Cottage all the tables were together at one end making us a separate party from the other diners. Chris had put daffodil bud vases on the tables. My favourite flowers. The staff were all very attentive sorting everyone's drinks. The first course was all served at the same time and then a short gap before the main course. The food was delicious, well presented and everything hot. It was all perfect. All my guests thoroughly enjoyed it, passing comment on the lovely decor and atmosphere. Chris rounded a perfect time with a bouquet of flowers and a birthday card from all the staff. Rose cottage is lovely for an intimate breakfast or lunch or for larger parties. It has given me a lovely memory of my 70th birthday

The Space: Do not be fooled by the plain exterior, for this unassuming little tearoom is a gem of interest and character within. Surrounded by cabinets showcasing the most beautiful collections of ornaments and jewellery, old and new, made from the towns local gemstone Blue John. There are also interesting historical pictures and information on the walls about the history of the stone, which is interesting and gives a bit of back story to the towns most famous export. Even the lights on the walls are made from old mining tools which are back-lit to great effect. The Food: I went for an Afternoon Tea with family. It was near Easter time, so the food was appropriately themed. The food was lovely! A good choice of sandwiches, with quality ingredients, and very importantly, the scones and cakes were all homemade, something which is quite a rarity these days! Portion size was also good, we couldn’t finish everything, so the waiter was happy to box it up for us to take away. Teas and coffees were served hot and also tasted good. An all round very enjoyable visit. 5⭐️’s from me.

We initially dropped in for a coffee but having been made so welcome revisited each day for lunch and drinks while we were in Castleton. The garden setting is beautiful and relaxed. The menu was varied and really good value for money and all our choices from the lunch and cake menu were delicious as was the wine. All this was made even more special by all the lovely staff who became more like friends over the few days we visited. We would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place and we will certainly be back.

A beautiful little cafe in the heart of Derbyshire’s rolling countryside. I received a first class service from lovely, friendly staff while enjoying the quaint, homely surroundings of this very old establishment. I ordered the halloumi with sweet potato and guacamole which was delicious, all washed down with a cup of Earl Grey tea. Will definitely return!

We ate here on our previous visit to this lovely village and the food was so good we decided to go here again rather than take our chances at one of the many other places. We sat at a table in the outside courtyard area which is very nice. We looked at the menu and there was a note saying that a reduced menu was currently being offered. Thankfully the steak pie I wanted was still available as was the gammon my son wanted. However, the salmon dish my wife was looking forward to was not available. The menu advertised outside should reflect the changes they have made. We ordered our food and drinks and the drinks arrived a short time later. Then we waited for our food......and waited......and waited. We weren't in a hurry but had not expected to wait nearly an hour for three main course, especially when the place was not at all busy. The food was delicious and in fairness they obviously realised how long we had been waiting as they offered us free drinks as we'd finished the ones we had got to have with our meals. We can only presume that they had had to put another steak pie in the oven? as it did seem to be popular but all it needs is for someone to come and tell us rather than leaving us sat there wondering what was going on. We had intended having coffees and cakes but decided to go elsewhere for these. Shame about the service on this occasion as the food is spot on.
