Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The George is THE place to stay in Castleton. Accommodation is perfect - exceptionally comfortable beds and well laid-out shower rooms - and the food is delicious - fresh and beautifully cooked with well-judged portion sizes. The staff are all friendly and welcoming - nothing...is too much trouble for them - and the location is ideal for hill walking or exploring the caverns and caves of Castleton. We can't praise the George highly enough and can't wait to return!More

We booked a table for Sunday lunch at 2 pm, after spending Friday evening next to the roaring fire drinking ales and sampling some of their delicious starters. We had the homemade pork scratchings and the spinach and feta Bajis.. scrumptious! On both occasions ,...the staff were all great! Very friendly and down to earth, helpful and polite. The atmosphere is warm and homely. The Sunday dinner was amazing.. it genuinely was the best Suday Dinner we both had for years! It felt and tasted home cooked. We had a beef and a nut roast with a side order of cauliflower cheese 😋 The veg was fresh, bright, and crisp. The roast potatoes and mash were cooked to perfection. The gravy was plentiful, and meat was tender. The nut roast was homemade and the best I have had. We didn't need to add salt or pepper to the dish. It was seasoned perfectly. Some love had gone into making of the food! The desert was equally tasty and homemade. We had bread and butter pudding and spotted dick. I opted for custard and ice cream on mine. Truly fantastic.. the mains were approx £18 each and the deserts £7. we will definitely be eating here again. The menu is so tempting. I thoroughly recommend. £26 for a takeaway bottle Red did seem a bit steep, but everything else was so good, it didn't matter.More

Stayed in room 4 for a couple of nights - what a lovely friendly and welcoming place! Every member of staff we came across seemed to know we were staying there and they couldn’t do enough for you. Each night a table in the restaurant...is reserved unless you specify otherwise before 5pm. There’s only three rooms available and the rate includes breakfast from 9am to 10am - yogurts and cereal, a full cooked breakfast or other options including breakfast sandwiches, omelettes or things on toast. The room was ok - decor a little old fashioned and a saniflow toilet/electric shower. Bottled water and tea/coffee provided; plus fresh towels every day. The mattress was too soft for us, but this is personal preference as ours at home is quite firm. Ate in the restaurant one night - beautiful food and great service. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!More

Came here a couple of times over the weekend just for a drink. There was such a lovely vibe we decided to come for food. Hubby had the roast beef which came with all the trimmings and I had the chicken, bacon, goats cheese and...beetroot salad. I believe the salad ingredients are grown locally by a lovely lady who owns 2 cockapoos and lives locally, sorry, I didn’t get your name. Our dog Ted was made welcome with the added treat of dog biscuits which are on the bar. He was also allowed to sit on the bench with us on Table2 as he sat on one of the towels provided. He was nice and snug as he was next to the log burner. Another local came in with his lovely dog Betty who kindly shared her roast beef with Ted. Fantastic choice of ales, a favourite of mine was anchorman l. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly. We will return.More
