From the street the Nags Head looks like two completely separate premises – a fairly modern hotel café/restaurant on the corner, the interior of which is visible through the large windows, and an old-fashioned pub, which doesn’t look particularly welcoming from the outside when passing by. Based purely on these impressions I’d avoided it as a place to drink on... More

Was out in Castleton on New Years Eve celebrating. We went into this pub before midnight. There was entertainment(guy singing) who was brilliant. There was a fantastic atmosphere, everyone singing & dancing. We brought in the New Year there & it was great. Staff were extremely pleasant. This pub has a good choice of drinks. We returned on New Year's... More

Recently visited for lunch after a long walk on the hills around Castleton. We ordered the fish and chips and the cheese and bacon burger. I had the burger which was over cooked and dry and had been under a hot lamp so long that the tub of coleslaw was hotter than my chips. My brothers fish and chips was... More

Generous portions of good food in front of a nice coal fire. A great place for a meal after a walk in the peaks. Very good value for money. Plus a brilliant view of Peveril Castle for the window in the gents' loo!

We visited here on 6th December. Four of us dined having the steak meal deal, £35.00 for 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. I was pretty pleased with the meal, well cooked and very tasty. Wine was good, not a bottle of cheap rubbish. Staff were helpful. Bar prices ok and beer good. I would go back without doubt.

After a long day's hike there is no place better than the olds nags head! Sit by the open fire, lovely hot food and a great selection of alcohol/ soft drinks. We decided to spend the night there. The rooms were very tidy and presentable. Warm and comfortable I would highly recommend .

A good selection of interesting quality beer and backed-up with a good menu of solid English pub grub. Just what's needed after being blown to bits on Mam Tor.

Visited this pub a few times for drinks however on the most recent occasion decided to try the food. Excellent! Good variety of dishes and even have an additional hot sandwiches menu. Would highly recommend.

The food was ok. The service at the bar was not. The barman who served us seemed hassled by every ask. Yes it was bust given that it was the bust period but we had a table booked at it was given that we would order food. The open fire was a nice touch and made the pub feel cosy... More

We came in for a mulled wine and chips after hiking Lose Hill. The fire was lovely and the pub had a great vibe. Lots of dogs and a generally welcoming feel. The mulled wine and chips were decent, not fantastic, and reasonably priced. Heard their roasts and mains were great from other tables however. A great spot to recover... More
