Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Delicious homemade food with great service, the perfect find on our drive through the Peaks. Despite the cafe being very busy at 1pm when we arrived we were assured that a table would be free in 5 mins, and it was. We ordered a combination...of hot pork sandwiches, fish finger sarnie and BLT baguette, all with really tasty chips on the side. All freshly prepared with a delicious mixed salad on the side of the baguette. The staff were friendly, attentive without being over bearing. We had a wander around the village and then picked up coffee and cakes to continue our journey as they sounded delicious. We weren’t disappointed! My son loved the Millionaire’s white hot chocolate (and millionaire’s slice to go with it) we also had a couple of normal coffees, a delicious pecan brownie and a ‘fresh from the oven and still warm’ Bakewell which was perfect. There are still a couple of huge pieces of flapjack to enjoy later in the day 😉More

This is a lovely little cafe. The choice on the menu was interesting and varied, and the food was very tasty. However, if you’re vegan or have an allergy to dairy and need alternative milk beware….they charge an extra 80p for it. This is most...I’ve seen anywhere, making their soya latte a whopping £4.30.More

Pretty much an average cafe feel. Had two hot chocolates, which were not too hot and two pieces of brownie and paid over £15.00. Was on our way home before I realised I'd paid well over the odds. Wifi didnt work either.

Cracking cafe. Friendly staff and the food we ordered was excellent. The hot pork roll was huge and well made as was the toasted flatbread. Large selection of cake all looked delicious.

Called in today for a hot chocolate, there were 2 of us, one adult and one child and was met with a very rude response. An hour before closing told that I couldn’t sit in one of the many empty tables even though we were...only having drinks as it was near closing and therefore take away only. It was raining and cold outside so this was not an option. A couple stood up to leave and told us to sit down so the person serving allowed me to stay however clearly unhappy about it. Whilst having drinks other people the ordered food in the cafe which obviously meant they would be there longer and were not met with the same reception. I have never felt so unwelcome and left as soon as I could.More

Stopped by for a coffee and cake (which were good BTW) but were asked to wait outside for them even though there was plenty of standing room. Very poor I thought - just not cricket really 😕

Friday 24th of November 2023, the date my husband was sat down in front of me and told there was nothing else they could do, and asked about his end of life preferences. With the words of do not resuscitate ringing in our ears I...decided to take my husband out of the hospice to get some space and breathe. Let's go for a drive to Castleton I said We drove from Sheffield to Castleton enjoying the views on route eventually parking in the carpark located closely to this cafe. My husband could barely walk and stumbling to the door tried to enter We had to ask for access because the accessible door was locked Taking zero notice as we entered, the assistant failed to notice my husbands frail condition or our exhausted faces as she rushed us through the door On cue she barked a table number at us pointing to the centre of the cafe, a table in the middle of the room even though my husband had a mobility walker and was struggling to stand up. I explained that we needed somewhere with a bit of space I said to her we would like to take the bench near the door because the seating was padded and more comfortable for my husband Irritated and put out she explained this was a table for four and if a larger group came in she said "you will have to move" Caught between bursting into tears and screaming at her for insensitivity I located somewhere to put my husbands walker and sat down. I knew that my husband did not need the stress. I was so devastated by their lack of care of my husband and wanted to leave but knew my husband needed a drink. We had a cup of tea and scone both of which were very nice but failed to make a dent on the shocking service, especially as we proceeded to watch as she and the owner (I assume) continued to manhandle visitors through the door paying no attention to individual needs instead packing people in and squeezing them onto the smallest spaces to ensure they could get more in for their money. What a monumentally disappointing experience on what was already a horrid day. Fake hospitality Shocking service Hugely disappointing I will NEVER darken this door again. This place needs to learn some lessons and get their customers back at the heart of their business.More

Please take note of all reviews. Consistency does not lie. Extremely rude and unwelcoming staff with overpriced cold food. Even the ‘hot’ drinks were luke warm. Extremely poor service. Avoid at all costs.

We came for the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap and there was no disappointment. Turkey Yorkshire was delicious. I ordered the vegan cob without the mushroom and was offered a vegan sausage instead and it was out of this world. Friendly service, laid back atmosphere, would definitely...recommend.More

This was awful, wish we'd gone elsewhere, we were moved from the spacious table we chose because it was a table of 4, and we were two, we were sat down on a table of two cramped in the corner with another man placed next...to us. The table of 4 we originally sat at wasn't touched the entire time we were there and was a very obvious attempt at the manager trying to capitalise profit at the detriment of customer service on the off-chance another table of 4 came in. Shocking. My partner ordered at the counter where the tall dark haired manager who looked like he should be selling second-hand cars rather than working in a cute country village tearoom rudely jabbed and upsold her to the point where we payed £15.50 for two teas, a sandwich and chips. He then ordered her to "make sure the menu was placed back on the table". The chips came out stone cold, they were changed fairly promptly with limited apologies. Hot chips? Not that hard. Infact, harder to serve cold chips if they're "fresh". The man seemed to think the overuse of "thankyou, cheers, thankyou, cheers" would distract us from his terrible service and hospitality. It was rather embarrassing and an wholly unpleasant experience. Avoid and don't be a victim to this guy's terrible attitude and solely money-making business, no passion at all.More
