Lovely chain style pub with great tasting food. The menu wasn't the most extensive however what we selected was really good quality and taste.
The Anchor never fails to provide an all round excellent experience. This is an absolute gem of place to relax, enjoy a delightful ambience and a first class meal from a great menu. The choice of food is great with options to suit all tastes....It is so good to see an individually designed menu today and this is one of the Anchor’s many strengths. The team deserves a special mention; they definitely know how to provide excellent customer service. Looking forward to our next visit; if Tripadviser allowed me to give more than five stars I would.More

We'd had a horrible journey from Norwich. It took us nearly two hours to get past a flooded Newark and we were running incredibly late by the time we'd arrived at the Anchor. We'd eaten there before on our way to Wilsmslow across the top...and we knew it was good. However, by 3.30 the chef had gone home and it didn't look like there'd be anything to eat, except that the wonderful manageress offered to make us chip butties which were a godsend. Talk about comfort food! Really lovely atmosphere: warm. welcoming and friendly. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.More

Locals and tourists creates a lovely vibe. Great banter. Isn't that what good old fashioned pubs are about?? Small...menu but you won't be disappointed what is presented on your plate. Clean toilets...... and you know what they say!!... . Clean toilets clean kitchen. Give it a visit.... You will return. Thank you Serena, Megan snd staff for an excellent evening. Weekend away in the caravan, thought we'd try the local pub...very friendly staff, amazing food, real ales, and wine (the Shiraz was so good I bought a bottle to take home). Had a meal Saturday night - the king prawn starter is to die for...and the linguine too. It was so good we went back Sunday night (and had the prawns again). Special thanks to Serena and Steph. This pub is so good you'll wish it was your local - we did! 🙂More

This is a nice pub for basic drinks (definitely not wine, there's no list and your choice is Merlot or Shiraz for red, neither any good) but the food is decidedly average. Liver was overcooked, the bass was just fish and potatoes and the black...pudding salad was pretty crude. Desserts are bought in with a horrible bakewell tart that put the area to shame. We had lovely friendly waitress so do visit, but with low expectations.More
Hello Sherman. Well I've learned something here. "Basic drinks". Surely you can't get much more "basic" than wine. Not sure whether you hadn't got your readers on that day, or whether our cheeky team member had been reading your previous revues and thought it might...More
Would highly recommend this lovely pub!!! So glad we stumbled upon it, on the way home, after a full days walking in the rain. All the staff were absolutely wonderful, very hospitable, so welcoming and attentive. The food we had was so lush and the...pub is very cosy with clean toilets and a good selection of beers. We will definitely be stopping in again.More

wow, where do I start, when I rang to book lunch for 21 people, I was met with an enthusiastic friendly manager that couldn't do enough to accommodate us. they only asked for us to pre book our food 2 days prior. we had a...lovely menu to choose from, also a very good vegan/vegetarian menu. on arrival, we found they had closed off a room for us all, which was great. the staff were all friendly, professional and so helpful. when it came to serving the food, it arrived promptly, piping hot and delicious., very good portion sizes and not one single complaint from anyone. everyone said they would visit the Anchor inn again, definitely will be booking in the near future. the staff deserve the highest praise. 5 stars aren't enough.More

We quite often come & stay the Peak District & have driven past the Anchor a few times always stating "that looks a nice place". Well, today we stopped & so glad we did. Super dog friendly (which we was thankful for as our Frenchie...isn't the quietest in the heat!) & are allowed in the dining area. I was particularly excited as they had an actual vegan / veggie menu. That's right my fellow vegans, an actual menu & it did not disappoint. Portions were huge & so tasty. My other half (not vegan) especially enjoyed his beef dripping chips. The staff were amazing & couldn't do enough for us. There was a problem with my order which was very quickly rectified, this was not an issue. So, to the manager who looked after us & who was determined we would return, thank you & yes, we will be back next time we are here, you & your staff are fabulous!More
