We booked a table for 7:45pm and sat outside around the pond to eat a lovely meal. The staff were very good and conscientious and really worked hard to make the experience enjoyable. The only negative was when the ladies asked to see the dessert menu they were told the kitchen was closed and would normally close at 8:30pm. We can’t understand why they would accept a dinner booking and then close the kitchen half way through service?

We were staying in a lodge nearby and pre-booked for the Sunday evening. The Watermill is situated in pleasant surroundings with a very nice conservatory. The menu has enough variety to appease a family with teenagers. There was cheerful kitchen staff in the visible kitchen and helpful and pleasant staff serving in the restaurant. The outside garden has seating area, overlooking a pond and also has a play area. The meals were superbly cooked with great presentation. There wasn’t a children’s menu, but meals could be ordered from the main menu at half price. The only disadvantage to ordering off the main menu was that the pasta was a little too spicy for our 12 year old – she would have preferred a separate children’s menu. Social distancing was in operation. Overall, this was a very pleasant visit.

We visited here as a couple, we were really looking forward to it after hearing a few different recommendations and it being onsite to the lodges we were staying in. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who showed us to our table and made sure we had everything we needed, coming back a few moments later to take drink & food orders. We ordered our food and it arrived promptly, however my partners was wrong (mine arrived correctly), we notified a staff member who apologised and said she would amend it straight away. The kitchen is open and the restaurant was quiet so we heard the chef shouting about the order being wrong asking who had took the order etc. he also shouted some other things regarding the order (which wasn’t what was stated on the menu, this is why it got returned). The correct food then arrived as I was just about to finish my own food as I didn’t want it to go cold whilst waiting for the replacement. Overall the food was really nice and very good value for money, however hearing not very nice things being said made the whole experience a negative one. We were going to return before we left but we chose not too. Maybe if the kitchen wasn’t open and we hadn’t of heard the comments made then we may have returned or maybe if the chef had a better attitude around orders being returned this could have affected us returning again.

Not a great atmosphere, very date simple menu over priced drinks and steaks. would not recommend, the olive tree restaurant on near by site is much much nicer food .Rushed service, very expensive steak, £26 plus £3 for pepper sauce and £3.50 for chips, £32 for a steak dinner that not great. We eat here with the eat out to help out and was very shocked at the bill even with £10 each off is was £37 each, rip off.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to review The Watermill. Our menu is full of intricate and seasonal dishes so I am surprised you thought it to be simple and overpriced. Fries are included with every steak so you will have not have been charged additionally for these. Regards,

We have visited twice during our weeks holiday. The first experience was very pleasant. The second visit was hugely disappointing! We booked for our first visit but when we got there, we were told we had to eat outside because we had a dog with us, which was not a problem. We were also told that we didnt have to book for our next visit as they dont reserve the tables outside ! We then turned up on our last night of the holiday to be told that because we hadnt booked, the bar person wouldn't be able to take our order for about 45 mins ! This was a little strange as the place wasnt even busy !! I then asked half an hour later if they could take our food order and the bar person replied that he couldn't as they still had people who had booked their tables before us ! To say i was not impressed was an understatement.. God only knows how they would cope if the place was actually busy ! 4 in the kitchen and 4 behind the bar and the resaurant only about a third full. Their policy is definately to serve everyone who reserves a table first and then if you are still there, then you can order. They either need to reorganise their team so they can cope better, or unfortunately, the resaurant wont last very long as i really cant see them lasting the summer with the current policy in place ! Take and order, deliver the food after about half an hour ! Then take another order then deliver their food.. very strange indeed ! As soon as we had decided to leave, he decided he could then take our order, at which point we had already decided to eat else where. Never mind, its them who have lost out as because it was a special occasion, they actually lost out on a big order !

Hi, Thank you for taking your time to review The Watermill. Our restaurant policy is that we do not reserve tables outside, we operate on a first come, first serve basis. As you will be aware, we have to operate a strict policy surrounding the number of people we can allow into the building for COVID 19 regulations to protect customers and staff. I hope you can appreciate that although the restaurant might not look busy, we did serve 72 customers that evening. The remaining 4 members who decided to stay were happy with the meals they had. Regards, The Watermill Management

We had booked a table here as staying locally. Although off the beaten track a long way off the road, initially we felt uninspired by the modern bungalow type building . however the welcome was warm, staff extremely friendly and helpful, and the Covid 19 precautions were good. We chose Whitby scampi tails which were freshly cooked in Tempura batter and attractively presented on samphire with fresh tartare sauce. The pea purée and chips were also excellent. Washed down with a good Sauvignon blanc. Dessert was chocolate fondant and ice cream again beautifully presented with fresh berries and delicious. Beautiful food and reasonable price,

Four of us have just returned after eating here and can honestly say we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. They were very accommodating to our dietary needs and the food was served quickly and to an excellent standard. All I can say is make sure you leave room for pudding!!

Having visited in October 2021 we booked to go restaurant the night we arrived as the meal we had previously was lovely. We were really disappointed with our meal the starters were nice but the wait for the main meal took about 40 mins after starters. The trio of burgers were stone cold, pizzas were ok but when we complained the server came back to the table and said do you want the burgers off the bill which they did do but took ages to clear the table after main meals were finished ended up having to pay the bill at the bar. Was really disappointed as we had planned to visit twice when saying in the lodges as the year before the meal had been so nice.

As we stayed on site in a lodge we ate here a few times. Lots of choice and the food was lovely. Great addition was the park adjoined to the restaurant. The kids loved this. I use a mobility scooter and the restaurant was really accessible. The back part wasn’t where the outdoor seating and park was but the rest was. All the staff were really helpful and as I say the food was really nice and reasonably priced considering you were on site and nothing else nearby. We will be back.

We were a local family out for an evening meal for the first time since lockdown was lifted. We had a great meal - friendly and efficient service, light and airy setting, good atmosphere, simple menu but suited us fine with some delicious food. Really enjoyed the rump steak, the prawn linguini and the pizza. Covid precautions in place but not in your face. Felt safe. Will be back. Thanks very much everyone.

We visited here Last weekend for our Sunday dinner after making reservations on the Friday. We were staying for the weekend at Woodland Lakes lodges so the location was ideal. We were greeted warmly and were able to sit outside in the sun. The setting is beautiful! The waterfall and massive coy fish made it peaceful. The chairs were comfy but the table was missing it’s glass making the task of balancing drinks panic inducing. We kept them on the shady wall. Dinner was a carvery, the beef was juicy and the roasties delicious. Only thing off putting was the skin on the gravy, it looked like a slug hanging off the ladle! After dinner was eaten, it took staff nearly 45 mins to clear the plates away. We had another couple of drinks and brought Ronnie the doggo to join us, he was made welcome. Since it was national ice cream day and one of the gentlemen was clamming for an ice cream all weekend we decided it was time. At £2.50 per scoop it was quite pricey for what it was, but needs must. Thanks for a lovely afternoon! Kayleigh’s and gentlemen score 8/10

I can’t understand the 5* reviews. Either we’ve caught the restaurant on a bad night or people don’t know about decent food. The children’s meals were actually a really good price for the portion they got. Although the burger meat was pink inside so the children didn’t want to eat it. Steaks were over priced for what we got. Half a small mushroom, half a small tomato and a piece of shallot. For £22! I’ve given 2* as the steaks tasted ok. Fries were that over cooked you couldn’t put a fork in them and after bringing it up to the waitress who offered to bring some fresh ones over it seemed the chef couldn’t take any criticism because when the new ones arrived they’d been drowned in salt. When you’re paying good money you expect good food. Simple as that. Felt totally ripped off after paying £78 (without the 10% tip already added to the bill) for 2 substandard kids meals 2 substandard steaks 2 cokes and a bottle of red. Wouldn’t come again. And certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone staying at the lodges. Better off saving your money and eating at the cafe or dining in your lodge and save yourself a fortune.

We were staying at woodland lakes just nearby and thought we would try this place to eat. So glad we did it was amazing food. I had the fish haddock and my partner and kids had pizza all very very tasty. Prob best fish I've had in a long time. The waitress serving us was such a lovely lady. Very friendly. We booked the next night as it was our last night and again food amazing. Our 17 month old loved the food and ate more than her 6 year old brother. Would definitely recommend if people are staying in the area. There was also a lovely gentleman who said it was his local that took time to talk to my family and was chatting to my son. He gave him a cap. Just a lovely friendly place. Thank you.

We came for a carvery this afternoon after a few recommendations about this place, and so I am really disappointed to be writing this. I did voice these concerns when I paid my bill, but the young lady behind the till who took my payment didn’t really have much to say. The service today was absolutely shocking. It wasn’t particularly busy when we were there, so there aren’t really any excuses for poor service. Especially when the staff are stood around chatting, despite seeing our plates piled up ready for clearing etc. The thing that has really spoilt the experience today (aside from the dogs constantly barking) was the lack of hygiene. I witnessed at least two members of staff walk past the carvery food, pick up a roast potato with their bare hands, then dipped it in the gravy and walked off. My stomach turned when I saw this the first time, but then to see it happen again with a member of the kitchen staff was enough to completely put me off my dinner. I hope that this lack of hygiene isn’t common practise in your workplace. Also, I appreciate that you are a dog friendly establishment, but this afternoon there must have been around 10-15 dogs in the restaurant which is a little excessive, especially when they started barking and my family were trying to eat! Needless to say, I probably won’t be returning again. Even at the point of me complaining when I paid, I felt as though nothing would actually be done anyway. The young girl seemed more interested in getting our payment than actually listening to what I had to say. And then they had the nerve to try and charge us an additional £13 ‘service charge,’ which I would’ve happily paid if the service was ok, but it was shocking! Very disappointed.
