Recently moved to Thirsk and had some friends staying with us and tried this for the first time. It is a restaurant rather than pub food as indicated by the price. The tables are well spaced and the ambiance is good. We all choose something different from the menu and all enjoyed what we had chosen. I was pleased there... More

We only booked this at the last minute and were told that the only menu was the supper club menu. As it turned out we could've ordered from the al-a-cart menu but we wasn't given this option. Nevertheless the food was excellent and we will definitely be going back again in the future.

Been here a couple of times before and we do like the food, location and service, but on a Saturday lunchtime it is clearly popular with families. The problem with this was there were clearly no guidelines as to what and what was not acceptable. Standing on chairs and sitting at the bar is not acceptable in my view. We... More

I have had lunch and dinner at the Carpenters Arms and the menu was full of variety and the food was delicious. The pub has a warm atmosphere and kind staff.

Visited for lunch after New Year - it was busy and the restaurant was fully booked. We were allocated a great table in the bar area, rather than the conservatory at the back which has less atmosphere. The only negative was the very noisy group who arrived shortly after us and sat at the next table! The food was excellent,... More

This has been a regular haunt for over 5 years and we have always enjoyed our meals on trips to N Yorkshire - we even stayed last December in one of the Garden rooms and had a superb time. But this was different! The service, despite there being an ample number of waiters/service personnel was slow, forgetful and off-hand (I... More

I visited for a Christmas party. The menu to pick from was fantastic with a good selection. I had a steak which was meant to be cooked to medium but was cremated and was more than well done. It still tasted really nice though. The seafood dishes that came out looked amazing. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, warm cosy... More

Visited for a family meal one evening. The pub was quite busy but there is a very large dining area, so plenty of tables. Staff were friendly and the food was very pleasant. The prices are reasonable given that the standard of the food is higher than you might expect from a country pub, albeit without being elaborate or "gastro".... More

A very pleasant lunch with friends in the warm and welcoming surroundings of the Carpenters. The winter lunch menu had a variety of choices, and for me the sticky porky ribs with sloe gin glaze was a 'must have' and certainly did not disappoint. The ribs were prepared to give a light and tasty dish the meat fell away from... More
