While this lovely little town is no longer on the highway, it is well worth diverting those few kilometres to stop there, as they have great coffee and food in a lovely little old shop with its quaint decor. The road leads from Innisfail back through to the highway or a longer back road to Silkwood further south. Its very... More

OK, it's not in Innisfail, but South Johnstone (setting for the movie, "All men are liars"), a quaint little cane town. Always stop here for good coffee when going between Tablelands and Townsville. Great coffee & food. Lovely conversation. Interesting locals-bit of an Alice's Restaurant. Some very interesting artworks of high quality on sale.

I always turn off the Bruce Hwy and head to South Johnstone for a break at Off th Rails Cafe and Gallery. The food is always fresh and healthy. Great coffee. The staff are always lovely and accommodating.

Fresh delicately cooked Spanish mackerel in turmeric and butter, fresh salad and a chicken curry wrap. Accompanied by freshly squeezed juice, nice coffee with gluten free cake options- cooked by the owner. What a lovely find.

I pulled into Off the Rails with my dog and had a ham and cheese toasty, flat white, and a slice of coconut berry cake. It was so delicious and the gallery was a nice surprise. They play relaxing music and offer free wifi, this is a great place to stop, I highly recommend it!

Sometimes when you're travelling it's hard to keep your diet nutritious and delicious, because food for tourists isn't made that way. But sometimes, you get lucky. We were on our way to the eccentric Paronella Park when we saw the colourful old building in South Johnston, a small community nestled amongst the cane fields. Advertising itself as a vegetarian, slow... More

I had mushrooms for breakfast on one occasion and last time my wife and I had fish burgers for lunch. This really is quality food made with fresh local produce. Their coffee is locally grown and roasted and I love its' beautiful earthy aroma and flavour. If you're not going that way, it's still well worth the detour off the... More
