We came here for my girlfriend's birthday given it was a "Top 10" TripAdvisor rating and boy were we happy we did. We came here expecting a nice dinner and there was one table opening for the Music Dinner Series featuring Richard Lopez and it turned out to be an incredible evening (note: if ever presented with a unique opportunity,... Some restaurants coast on a good reputation for years eventually becoming average, mundane or even occasionally bad. Such is not the case with The Refectory. Their reputation for excellence is fully deserved and merited. There are many fine restaurants in Columbus, but this is truly the best of the best. My wife and I usually choose a special occasion to... More

Was treated to dinner here from my employer with fellow employees and significant others. I ate the best things I have ever put in my mouth...that duck will be dreamt about until I go back. The atmosphere was very fancy in the renovated old church. This place has a long history. The waiter was super accommodating and very knowledgeable about... More

My first meal at the Refectory was about 24 years ago. This year I've been there twice. Living in Washington I won't get there often but I'll plan to go every time I visit Columbus. Our family dined there the evening before Thanksgiving. Everything was superb. It is truly French in all of the good ways and none of the... More

While the outside of the building is pretty unattractive, the interior of the main dining room is beautiful with centuries old wooden beams and ceiling. The restaurant is quiet enough for easy conversation with tables spaced well apart. The service is friendly and attentive. Above all the food was outstanding, well prepared, and well presented. The Lyon training of the... More

This review could be summarized as: Unusual and classic food done very well in a pleasant setting with attentive but unobtrusive service. Appetizers were enjoyable. I had the "Ohio Salumi Board" with a variety of local cured meats and Ohio cheeses. The meats tended to overlap in flavor and consistency but were all good; the cheeses not especially memorable. My... More

We chose the Refectory to celebrate our anniversary as we have done in the past. The service is excellent as well as the food! I had the Dover Sole which I had never had and it was excellent. My husband had the Sturgeon which he enjoyed. We both had the seasonal soup which was excellent. I love the atmosphere; it... More

One of the best kept secrets in Columbus is the Bistro menu at The Refectory! $25 for a 3 course dinner. We stop in for the menu prior to Broadway in Columbus shows downtown. We stop in for the menu to celebrate a birthday. We stop in for the menu because we just don't feel like cooking one night! The... More

Earlier this week my wife and two other couples had dinner in the Bistro at the Refectory. As usual, the food and service were impeccable. We each chose the Bistro menu. I had the Elk Dumpling with Mushrooms with Chestnuts, Marsala Sauce, and Whole Grain Mustard Fleuron as my first course. This was prepared to perfection. For my second course... More
