We were on holiday and fancied fish and chips, friends who live local recommended Three Cottages to us. We ordered via their website which was very comprehensive as that is how they have been operating during Covid. The only downside is you have to register with them as you cannot check out as a guest. You book a time for collection and I ordered a large cod, medium cod, large chips, a pickled gherkin and 5 sachets of tartare sausage. We made our way to the restaurant and as I got out my car my name was called. All the food was in neat boxes and smelt lovely as we drove home in the car. We unwrapped the food and first thoughts were it looked (and smelt superb). Fish batter and chips were nice and brown, all too often chips are white or yellow in colour. Also the chips size was just right, not over large or super thin. Tasting the food was another great experience, the chips were soft and tasted lovely, so nice that I didn’t want to taint them with vinegar. They had a natural sweetness to them. The fish batter was crispy and not overly greasy, and the fish was flaky and moist. The gherkin was a good size and the only thing that let the meal down was the tartare sauce. I ordered. 5 sachets and after tasting the first we left and threw away the rest, it’s poor quality and not in keeping with the food quality. I hope the6 change their supplier. We will definitely revisit when we are up here again.

Meeting up with friends I was really worried that I was going to have to oven bake a shop bought pizza whilst they munched on takeaway. But then thanks to my coeliac norfolk Facebook group this chip shop came recommended. The lady I spoke to was so polite, accommodating, friendly and cheery and happily booked my meal in, along with my friends meals last minute. For the first time in 8 years I had battered cod and sausage with my chips and the whole lot was absolutely delicious! Seperate fryer and utensils used so i didnt get ill at all. So so grateful for this! Would highly recommended and will definitely return. Thanks so much for making my day 😊

The strap line is'The best Fish and Chops in the World' This may well be true but for me the stand out feature was the service. We went this Tuesday and the waitress was amazing. The sort of person you would hope to find in a Michelin star restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble and she did everything exactly as it should be. Hats off to her and I am a bit envious of you lucky people in the Walsham area for having such a nice place to go

I tried in vain to contact this fish and chip restaurant yesterday to pre order some gluten free fish as it appears to be the only plaice in the area which does it. From 12 until 1.30 the phone went straight to answer phone and the message inbox full was heard. Tried again at 4.30 and same. As orders had to be placed ahead of pickup I abandoned the idea and went to Waitrose and bought fresh fish to cook instead. A pity but there it is

I am very sorry we were unable to provide your fish and chips on this occasion but would explain that, as shown on our website, we were shut all week from Tuesday to Saturday to enable our staff to have a well earned break. There was a message left on our telephone to let callers know but, regrettably, somebody left a string of messages on it to fill the message box and prevent callers hearing our message. I do hope you will have the opportunity to try our fish and chips at some future time but suggest you check the website to ensure we are open on the date you want to order.

Take away fish & chips - not eaten in resturant. Ordered cod & large chips x 2 on Frid 26thth Nov 2021 to take away. The 2 pieces of fish were put into one large tray, and the 2 portions of chips put into 2 small trays. when asked why the fish was not with the chips, they said they wouldn,t fit !! surely it's not rocket science to realise by using 2 large trays, they would have been able to serve up the meals as meals. In addition to this, after waiting 25 mins for the order to be served, as they were concentrating on all phone & online orders first,, when we actually got the food, it was very greasy & the chips were hard & tasteless. Made bird food for the next day. They used to be one of the best fish & chip shops around, but sadly not now. Will not be using them again, and not recommending them either.

Menu on here showing fish at £5.50 a little bit out of date! Large Haddock and regular chips £13.50, fish was well cooked nice crisp batter, not very big for a large(size of standard chip shop fish, not a mini) chips nice. Eat in open 12 til 1.45(last sit in order 1.15) nice to be able to have garden peas. Staff very accommodating. They also did a nice fresh Plaice.

Visited here whilst staying in the area on holiday. What a great place we just turned up after our day out, we were told there was a bit of a wait due to a lot of online orders which wasnt a problem. All food was cooked to order we had 2 large cod 2 large chips and 2 minted mushy peas. Portion sizes are huge. Cooked to perfection we thoroughly enjoyed it. Pity we hadn't found this place earlier I,d definitely recommend it.

We called through a big order about half hour before they shut and they had no problem accommodating us. We had one gluten free order which can be hard to come by at a chip shop but was no problem for them. The food was amazing and portions also amazing. Best chips I’ve ever had

We were camping nearby, and as a coeliac I have to be super organised with eating out. I found this place and emailed 4 days ahead to check they could cater for me and pre-order. They replied saying they cannot take the order ahead of time and to phone back on the day and they will take the order over the phone. I phoned 15 minutes after they opened and was told the gluten free slots had already gone and they could not offer me anything until 8:40. I nearly cried that not only would I have to eat crackers for my dinner, our entire group would not want their fish and chips either if I couldn’t join in. Thankfully after a few tears and a bit of Googling, I found Ken’s fish and chips in Wrexham. The lady ok the phone could not have been more accommodating and I got to eat gluten free fish and chips for dinner!

So sorry you missed out on your meal with us. My reply to your email suggested you telephone us as we have limited slots for gluten free fish and chips but I obviously did not make it clear that you should call well beforehand for which I sincerely apolagise. Our gluten free meals our incredibly popular and, as we can only cook limited amounts, the slots are often filled well in advance, especislly on bank holiday weekends.

its the best place for fish and chips in Norfolk, if not the country. its is also great because they do gluten free, which is great that I'm intolerant. never had a bad meal from three cottages. id recommend this place to anyone.

I can’t rate the staff Highly enough. First time I’ve ever been and mentioned my sister is gluten free. They went to action stations, Washed hands straight away, kept our food miles away from other fryers, utensils and other food. Not to mention they have a large menu of gluten free items. And the food for us was safe and delicious.

We have always had excellent fish and chips dinner to takeaway from Three Cottages and decided to try eating in their restaurant for lunch. It didn't disappoint, we four all had different items and all four meals came together piping hot and cooked perfectly. Great table service too. Thank you!

It feels me with sadness to leave this review in which I will have to pass on to Coeliac uk too in order to give everyone a truthful review. Good part is that they have a separate fryer and accommodate coeliacs which is fantastic for me having them on my doorstep. Food is good and staff very friendly. Bad part is that after tonight sadly we will not return. It is another disaster with the phone ordering and not delivering in time. We order at 11.45am to be told to collect at 7 which is their time suggestion. We get there only to be told we have to wait 25mins. This happens every time. Why tell us we need to order over the phone and then tell us a time they don’t honour. It seems their business time management is poor. It’s really annoying to be told a time to them watch them start cooking it, even when we are regulars and look after walk in over us. I feel it’s a greedy business choice and avoidable. If you can’t honour the orders then don’t offer them!! We get this every time sadly and enough is enough I’m afraid.

Sincere apologies for the problems you have experienced. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Friday evenings have become exceedingly busy at the shop making it difficult to keep up. In order to safely prepare Gluten Free products we need to take one of the fryers away from his normal work for at least five minutes each time which puts us further behind. We had hoped that this would ease after Christmas but last Friday was even busier. Although we restrict the number of Gluten free orders taken Friday evenings it has proved impossible to keep up with the demand. Rather than let customers down we have now decided reluctantly that we will not offer Gluten Free on Friday evenings. It will still be available on other openings providing it is pre-ordered by phone and, on other days at the moment, the system works well. I can understand your decision not to order again but if a day earlier in the week would suit you I am sure there would be no undue delay.

Each time we come to North Walsham (every few weeks) it's part of our tradition that we order fish and chips to eat with my aunt. In 2017 I only gave this 4*; it's truly worthy of 5* now. I can honestly say I've never had better fish and chips than from the Three Cottages. The batter is beautifully crispy, the cod is excellent quality, the portion size good and the chips perfect. Every time. We place our order online selecting a pick up time and I've never had to wait more than a minute or so for the meal to be handed to me.
