Popped in there for evening dinner and with some expectations but all was very disapponting due to the staff who very slow and taking the order took ages. For the price, the portion was too small-arty farty. Better to go there having a bigmac first!.The...More

This was the best pub in Battle for food, interesting inventive menu very reasonable prices. Unfortunately due to a new chef this has changed, the prices have gone up and the quality down, mains are now £16-£17 with two dishes (both vegetarian) for £14. Our...More

We loved this place. What's happened? Dropping in for lunch we had the burger and chicken Kiev. Pricey stuff. The Kiev was a small ball of macerated chicken with raw garlic and no butter. The parsley puree a green sludge and the chips limp and...More

Popped in for a fairly late lunch, so not many people around and plenty of room in the car park. Great welcome in this proper pub, which hasn't been turned into a fancy restaurant and retains its character. But then when you order the drinks...More

We used to go to the Chequers all of the time a few years ago but sadly it changed hands and the standard of food was awful so we stopped going. Ownership has changed a few times since and last Sunday we decided to pay...More

We popped in for some quick lunch before heading home, the portions were huge! You certainly didn’t leave hungry but this is reflected in the price as it is a bit more expensive than your average. They have some really unusual menu choices so if...More

Food quality is great but you have to wait at least 30 minutes until you will be served. Every next order (for example desert) +30 minutes. So you need to find a couple of hours to go for a lunch there

Such a great place for a beer. Loads of seating front and back. Great garden. Excellent range of gin on offer and reasonably priced.

The steak was not rare I wonder how they prepare it as it didn't seemed grilled, steamed???. Very quick serving. Was it all already ready and reheated? I worked in restaurant and that is why I wonder. No gravy so a bit dry. And the...More

There is a car park but I wouldn't say it is large and it could get full at peak times. It is also quite difficult to enter and exit.

Description
At Chequers we aim to provide a new way to dine, a relaxed vintage atmosphere, exciting rustic British food and a classic British bar. With our chefs locally sourcing ingredients from only farms that we have firsthand knowledge of, foraging for those special ingredients that are forgotten on menus today and preparing every dish to let the flavours of each ingredient excite the taste buds exactly how they should. This all mixed with our excellent wine list of classic and some very unusual great wines, and a classic British bar, we hope that once enjoyed you will just want to keep coming back.
