An excellent find! Our first evening away and we hit jackpot! A perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the evening. Plus to take shelter from the persistant rain! When we arrived we questioned if we would get a table as it appeared busy already...however, we were in fact welcomed in and seated in a beautifully quaint restaurant. The menu was fabulous, with so many delicious options. And the drinks menu didn’t disappoint either! To start we both warmed up with the mushroom soup & a warm focaccia bread . We then ordered the sirloin steak from the specials board, plus a cheese platter from the sharers section. The food was exceptional. Such a perfect find…made even better with the attentive service we received throughout by Max. Both my partner and I enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant and stayed for several hours. If visiting Battle we would highly recommended that you visit The abbey hotel! We look forward to our next visit!More
Visiting Battle for their bonfire weekend festivities we took shelter in the Abbey Hotel from the persistent rainfall and by chance stayed to eat. We found the staff very hospitable and where shown to a lovely cosy corner table which was both secluded and a...main part of the restaurant. We found the establishment to be very clean and well presented with great decor and period decoration all setting a superb ambience. Our main server was Max who was very attentive and made an above and beyond attempt to make sure we where both well looked after. A great selection is to be found on their menu which as we where informed by Max changes seasonally. There is also a great selection to be found on their specials menu. We both went for the mushroom soup as a starter. This course came out piping hot, thick, creamy and very tasty served with a warm foccacia bread roll. For our mains I went for a 10oz sirloin steak and my partner opted for the cheese board to be found under the sharers section and boy we were not disappointed. The steak was exceptional and the cheese board was overflowing with tasty treats to accompany 5 generous wedges of various cheese delights. We took our time to eat and drink taking refuge from the deluge of wet weather outside and thoroughly enjoyed our two hours inside this fine establishment. Huge commendation to Max who again was very attentive to us as customers even though the restaurant and main bar where both found to be busy in the early evening of a Friday. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area whether passing through or staying for a break. We will be back and hope to see Max again.More
Got caught in the rain so tried out luck for a Sunday lunch. Luckily they found us a table. Staff were extremely friendly and lovely and the roasts were to die for. I had the med mixed roast, my partner had the med lamb roast...and my son had sausage and mash with extras from our plate. I even went and said thank you personally to the chefs as the food was that amazing. Zero complaints. Definitely will be back.More
Stopped off here for lunch, I had a plougmans lunch with a very nice pint of cask ale. The lunch was quite substantial and could easily serve 2 people. My friends had a sandwich which they enjoyed. We sat outside in the beer garden which...was nice. Located over the road from the Abbey/battlefield. A nice spot to stop.More
I came here on a Sunday with my girlfriend to have a nice dinner. I must say the place is fantastic, the food was delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The waiter kiam, I believe his name was, was absolutely spot on. He showed that he was...trained very well and was serving 4 tables at once while giving all of them the best experience. I will definitely be coming here again with friends.More
What can I say the bar service was amazing, garden was lovely and food was incredible we had belly pork (lovely) the boys had a ploughman’s platter and meat platter, very generous and we didn’t feel cheated on the bill, satisfied and will return thank...you guys - bellies full 🥰More
Beautiful atmosphere and decorating. Snuggly cosy. Dog friendly. Cushions on settees. Wood beams fab wallpaper
How good was our meal at the Abbey? Good enough to warrant starting a TripAdvisor account. We've eaten at many great restaurants in the past 40+ years and The Abbey is in the top rank. Very nice ambience, great pace, solid wine list, and really...well prepared meals. The sea bass was a delight and the pork belly a real pleasure. Find the time to visit, have a pre-dinner drink, enjoy your meal, and grab a room above the restaurant if you can! Highly recommended.More
On a sunny August evening I attended Battle Abbey Hotel with friends and family to celebrate the birthday of a very senior member. The warm welcome offered by the management and staff at the beginning of the evening established the atmosphere for a very enjoyable...and relaxing time to come. The lager beer, as well as other drinks, from the bar also helped to get the party going as guests arrived and added to the enjoyment. The music - provided by a special band booked for the occasion - also contributed to the atmosphere as people relaxed and danced to the familiar selection of numbers. And then came the food! What a wonderful surprise! Such a variety of savoury and spicy dishes served by the ever-attentive Max who somehow combined front-of-house duties with making sure everyone's wishes were catered for. This was a well-organised party and the Abbey Hotel should be proud that everyone will have warm memories of this birthday celebration. Here's to the next one!More
Always good food and great service. The only pont that prevents me giving 5 stars is the lack of cask ale. The selection of bottled ales almost makes up for it. Lovely place.
Delicious, home-made food. Good variety for all tastes. Everyone was friendly and professional…especially Kiam who was exceptional. Very polite, attentive and warm! Thank you 😊
The place is absolutely lovely. The staff was very quick and always helpful. The Jamaican jerk chicken was excellent. We'd definetely come again if only we didn't live half a continent away....
Unbelievable food, great service. Very accommodating for our baby. The staff are so friendly and the food service was quick and very accommodating to dietary requirements. Would highly recommend this restaurant
Three of us for lunch (plus one dog). Excellent (real) food and drinks - I have become used to very average cocktails in pubs but the Aeperol Spritz here was amazing. Great service too. So nice to find this quality of food, drink, and service...in a tourist destination, doesn’t happen often.More
