Stopped in for a spot of lunch. We hadn’t booked but were lucky to get a table. Really great organisation around Covid - encouraged to download NHS app, masks required for walking around etc Really great selection of food and great quality. Lots of vegetarian options. Staff very friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend

After moving to Battle recently and missing our old local we headed out on search of a new one. We came across The Abbey Hotel and got chatting to the lovely staff over a few cocktails by the fire, the perfect evening!! We just had to bring our family, they were not disappointed! We went for dinner during the week while they were visiting and they loved the food, atmosphere and staff so much they insisted on booking the Sunday lunch before they travelled back home. I can't pick fault in anything and am so grateful this beautiful venue is on our doorstep. Hooray!

The welcome we received on arrival could not have been more fulsome and we were shown without delay to our favourite table in the window. The drinks - a cocktail for the better half and a pint of Bishops Finger for me - arrived very quickly and so did the menu which has been revised recently. Such is the choice that the pint was nearly finished before we had chosen. The swordfish with vegetable sauce and a popadom for the lady wife and the fillet steak for me. While waiting for service we enjoyed the warmth of the wood burning stove and a chat with the ever-friendly mine host who told us of the history of the hotel. Service arrived quickly and the dishes we enjoyed were so good that silence ensued. Delicious. A steak to die for and the swordfish the envy of a Greek island restaurant. Washed down with a bottle of fine red wine, this was an excellent meal enjoyed in convivial surroundings. The conversation with the proprietors afterwards revealed enticing news of the hotel rooms but not tonight because they are so popular that they can only be booked in advance. Altogether a very enjoyable experience.

Big family dinner first night. Had to preorder day before. A few of us had the special pie… the tops all burnt. As we were staying in accomodation the breakfast was included. Saturday morning.. cannot complain. Sunday morning was not a great experience. 4 of us ordered at same time. 2 full English with poached, 1 full English with fried and 1 eggs Benedict. 2 breakfasts arrived - 1 full English with poached eggs and an eggs Benedict. The 3rd breakfast which was full English with fried eggs arrived 15 minutes later. As there were 16 of us booked in as a family group…some more family members joined the table and ordered theirs… full English with scrambled eggs. After another 10 minutes I asked where my full English with poached was… some raised voices in kitchen. The group who ordered AFTER me received theirs… and after another 10 mins mine arrived….minus bacon. Waitress raced back to kitchen and my bacon was delivered in under 2 minutes… tough as boots.. obviously microwaved. I wouldn’t choose to buy breakfast but if included in rate opt for the eggs Benedict but ask for fried eggs… chef cannot poach properly

Nipped in for lunch when visiting Battle. We were immediately advised that the kitchen was being refurbished, but they were serving cold platters, etc - which was fine for us as we were looking forward to a ploughmans. And what a selection of ploughmans! We settled on a different one each, but when they turned up, realised we could have had one between us. The food was very well presented and of a high quality. Hope to visit again when in the area again and try the hot food!

If you’re ever in Battle, then make sure you visit with an empty stomach because once you leave the Abbey Hotel, you’ll be filled with good food, great booze and a genuinely happy feeling. The pub staff are warm and welcoming to all who visit (including dogs!) and will make you feel right at home. Feel like spending the night? Then book a room because you’ll get a great nights sleep with excellent facilities. If you’re down on a Sunday, don’t leave without treating yourself to their superb selection of delicious roasts - lamb being the personal favourite! A lovely place with a great team of people and a destination I am more than happy to travel to for well over 90 minutes each way for good food, a great selection of beers and a good atmosphere!

On 29th July I was part of the family celebration lunch at Battle Abbey Hotel. This was a big one: 50 years married for my brother and sister in law. Imagine our delight on arrival that the selected and favourite table had been beautifully decorated for the occasion. Flowers, petals and special napkins were tastefully arranged. And there were also flowers for the couple and champagne for all and that was just the start. The menu, which seems to have been updated recently, is extensive and caters for all tastes. Our selections arrived promptly, but without a rush so that we could sample at leisure the environment, chat in comfortable surroundings, and enjoy the company, including of the ever-attentive staff. The first course, in my case a superb tomato salad, was new and very tasty; the others enjoyed wonderful fish goujons. We also similarly enjoyed our main courses chosen from the wide selection. The recommended wine was very much to our taste and in balance with the courses. This was a meal to remember: excellent, friendly service; wonderful dishes; and all in an atmosphere which will encourage a return - soon. All in all, a text book way to celebrate a significant anniversary.

I booked a meal for 2 on Saturday 22nd August at 7.30pm. I nearly gave up on the phone as the woman who answered was monosyllabic to the point of rudeness. We arrived as booked, there was a barman serving who greeted us and said he would be with us in a minute. A few minutes later a barmaid came and started serving another customer who had come to the bar after us, ignoring us. We were then spoken to by the waitress who took us through the pub looking for our table, which did not exist. Back at the bar the fair haired barmaid who I recognised from previous visits, asked my name and my husband’s name, in case it was under him which I pointed out was impossible as I made the booking. She found my booking in the diary which had been crossed out. She asked if I had cancelled and eventually accepted I had not done so. Not a word of apology for inferring I had got it wrong or for the very obvious fact a member of staff had made a huge error. At this point I decided enough was enough and said to leave it, we were going. The barmaid had the cheek to say that wasn’t fair, it was a mistake. Still no attempt at an apology. We went over the road to the newly opened Sweet Chilli where we were welcomed in, got a table and had a superb meal with great service. So thanks for that at least. The owners of the Abbey need to take a very good look at customer service.

This wonderful historic Hotel set in the most sublimely picturesque of locations slap bang in the centre of beautiful Battle is a wonderful treat. There is parking a plenty just a stones throw from the front door in pretty much every direction not least in the grounds of Battle Abbey at an insanely reasonable price for a whole day; or free if you have English heritage membership. Once inside you really do get the full effect. Low ceilings nooks and crannies dotted all over the gorgeous old building like something that would not be out of place in a Harry Potter or Charles Dickens tale. Then take your place for the feast. The staff and owners are delightfully attentive without being intrusive and the extensive but neat menu does not disappoint. I can heartily recommend the ribs and when I say hearty be prepared to consider booking a room for a lie down afterwards. Or like us you may be so impressed you asked to take everything you couldn’t finish home. Great price. Excellent chef and everything about it seems special.

Situated across from the Abbey entrance, the Hotel may not have the most picturesque façade in town but what a difference when you get inside.. Friendly staff, cosy bar area and very nice restaurant area with plenty of space and lots of homely touches. Four of us all enjoyed a very hearty lunch with the hummus starter and main course pies standouts amongst the excellent and varied menu on offer, with my wife being very pleased with food being served on hot plates.. Service was attentive without being overbearing and although this was our first visit it certainly will not be our last as its an ideal spot to eat after visiting the abbey and various other local attractions.

We only popped in for a drink, but ended up staying a few hours. The staff were very friendly and attentive. My goodness the food was AMAZING, we couldn't recommend enough, the cheese fondue was beyond delicious, a real must. In fact all of the food was so delicious, if you can try their cocktails I would especially recommend the Strawberry Daiquiri

We came here as a family group, and experienced the weirdest/rudest service ever. They criticised our food order, were rude and generally treated us like we'd committed a sin. Which I have racked my mind about and I can't think of anything. We hadn't complained, or been rude in anyway. There was one waiter who was friendly and personable but the rest of the staff took issue with the amount of food we ordered, how fast we ate and what we left over. Due to feeling unwelcome we didn't stay for coffee/dessert.

We have visited on a number of occasions following a number of recommendations and I’m so glad we did! I have had the roast multiple times and also tried various meals on the menu. The menu choice has a good range, with good portion sizes and good value for money. the food is absolutely delicious!!! I mean you definately have to try the roast! Hats off to the chef! Negatives- The place however could do with a little clean up and the first time we went there was a member of staff who was extremely rude, and after a particularly rubbish week myself it was Definitely not needed! I addressed this and since returning the member of staff has made every effort to be nice. There’s also one other member of staff who may need some customer service training and clearly does not want to be there! However the other staff are great and the food is that good it hasn’t put us off going. Would highly recommend for a good quality meal!

We were recommended the Abbey Hotel, quite coincidentally, by the butcher who supplies their meat. We had a fab lunch in beautiful surroundings and pleasant staff. Rebecca served us and was engaging, professional and attentive. We will return on another trip and possibly stay there as they are dog friendly. Cheers.
