Still the best restaurant in Brentwood. I have been to the Jehan Curry Hut about 5 times since my last review and every time I’ve visited I come away feeling impressed. It’s a real hidden gem, just off the High St, tucked down the alleyway on the right, opposite Poundland. I do not want to say too much about the food this time but to say it is always fabulous, freshly cooked with interesting, complex layers of flavour. It’s very well priced and with good sized portions. The restaurant is spotlessly clean with an attractive decor. The staff are friendly, smartly dressed and will always give you a smile on arrival that makes you feel welcome. The restaurant seems run like a well oiled machine to me, with super efficient staff on the floor and in kitchen. You get your order taken quickly and the food arrives without any long delays. The waiting staff are attentive, looking around the floor for anyone in need of assistance and regularly popping to the table to check everything is ok. It’s this sort of attention to detail that makes for a good restaurant. If that wasn’t enough praise this is also BYO booze restaurant which is perfect for me who enjoys a quality bottle of wine but does not like paying normal restaurant prices for it!! Also there is no nasty corkage charge. This restaurant stands head and shoulders for quality, price and cleanliness over any similar restaurant in the area. It goes without saying it comes high recommended (and Im fussy) and I will be certainly visiting this restaurant and enjoying the food again in the very near future.

Only had takeaway but all the food was quality. Have ordered several times now. Love the rava dish (hot sweet and sour curried marinated chicken). Sag aloo really tasty and didn’t seem to have lots of oil. Looks a bit run down from the outside and is down a small side street through an alley from town. Inside though is lovely and I notice it is always busy with happy looking diners. There is no alcohol licence so people take their own or buy from the extensive soft drinks menu. Free popodums and small pickles to sample for takeaways along with 15% off if you pick up and pay cash (twice my bill didn’t include the advertised discount though so check - they soon rectified the error politely).

First night we are finally allowed to eat out and we chose our favourite local Indian restaurant. Had a lovely evening. Restaurant was very quiet with only a few other diners but I am sure things will get busier as the weeks go on. We felt very comfortable and tables positioned a good distance away from others. Food, as ever, was superb and the staff professional, attentive and friendly. Thank you Jehan - see you soon!

Came to the restaurant last night for dinner with 6 friends for starters and mains. Starters fine but I ordered a Chicken Bhuna which turned up and the chicken and sauce was visibly sitting on top of oil. Had to almost strain my curry to serve it and there must have been 3/4 table spoons of oil left behind. Others didn’t notice the same but once we had finished their food and had curry left over, they noticed the same: Food was ok for price but I wouldn’t say value for money.

Reading the reviews and looking for the best place to go for a meal while I was staying over for business. I was massively disappointed. Being from Birmingham i know a good curry house. To start with the facilities are not very welcoming and the decor is some what outdated located down a side alleyway. I was 1st asked if I want a popadom which then got served with a mango sauce, mint yogurt and a onion salad which once the bill was given I seen I got charged 80p per item mention so £3.20. I had lamb chops starter that was not a good quality lamb chop and more a knuckle. My biggest concern that made me take the time to write this was my main meal of tandori King prawns which when served was shocked to see 4 king prawns as a main meal. I didn't want to make a fuss and continued to be polite and paid at the end. My overall experience would put this down to a 1 star and that is a full honest review the food is not great or the portion sizes and definitely not be voted as number1 for the brentwood area. Feel I got mislead and these sites are used to find the best places to bist if travelling.

After reading all the reviews below, I was very excited about visiting this restaurant. However, I waited 1.5 hours for my meal and no one came up to us to apologise for the wait! And then, we were given 2 hot plates ready for our 'meal' only to have those plates taken away as they were put on the 'wrong table'. Because of their lateness, we were not even offered a dessert/coffee menu at the end. The food was nice but not worth a long wait and poor service.

Your feedback helps us get better. We are looking into this issue and we’ll strive to do better.

Ordered a takeaway from here last night after reading the reviews. The curries and sides were absolutely delicious, satisfyingly spicy and arrived in good time. It was lovely to see someone from the restaurant delivering our meal instead of a middle-man delivery company. The meal arrived in paper packaging instead of plastic which is a big plus. Given the current global climate I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price, the menu had a nice selection of Nepalese food as well as Indian and there were lots of options for vegetarians. Looking forward to next time.

A couple of weeks ago my partner and I returned to an Indian restaurant that we used to visit frequently. Tucked away down a little alley way, leading off of Brentwood High Street are two restaurants serving Asian cuisine; one Chinese and one Indian. Despite my frequent requests, we have yet to try the Chinese restaurant. Partly because my partner prefers Indian food and partly because Jehan Curry Hut is my favourite Indian restaurant so far, so if we are in Brentwood it doesn’t take much convincing to get me in there. Whenever we visit we are warmly welcomed by staff, who make a point of remembering their regular customers and always engage in friendly chat. The staff at Jehan are incredibly attentive; you never have to wait long if you are in need or want of something! The restaurant is brightly decorated, with colourful paintings hung around the walls. Some of the decor is Indian-themed, some is simply nice to look at. The restaurant area feels clean and ‘airy’. The food is always impeccable, both in taste and presentation. I usually opt for the mixed tandori grill, which comes on a sizzling skillet, and is generously portioned. My son has the pilau rice and chicken nuggets (there are options for those who don’t particularly enjoy Indian cuisine). My partner generally orders a curry that lies on the hotter/spicier side (which he invariably makes me taste, despite my protests). The onion bhajis are also a must, in my opinion; their crispy texture complements the tender meat, rich sauces and fluffy rice perfectly! We are never disappointed with the food or service at Jehan; my partner has taken business associates there on several occasions. I highly recommend Jehan Curry Hut, for lunch or evening meals! We will definitely be returning! Just remember to take your own alcohol if you fancy a tipple, as they only serve soft drinks.

During a work trip to Brentwood myself and about 8 colleagues decided to check out the Jehan hut. We were not all male, we were not at all rowdy and had not been drinking. We weere a bunch of respectful professionals looking for a good indian meal. When we initially arrived at the Jehan Hut we noted how tatty and unclean the exterior and interior was, but appearances can be deceptive and I have had some of the best meals in places which are very visually unassuming. We decided that the authenticity would be in the cooking and were excited to eat there. Upon going in I was surpised to see that there was not one single other soul inside and the man on the counter looked bored and disinterested. Still we asked if we might have a table and we were seated at the back, by the kitchen. During the order process the man taking the order, Asian and mid 40s, who I took to be the owner was both rude and dismissive when asked legitimate questins about some of the dishes and breads. He acted mildly annoyed, curt and rude and hurrued us through the entire process. The whole thing felt as if we were very unwelcome and he;d rather we were not there. Once we had ordered papadums arrived, from a packet. I've eaten enough to know when they are not made on site - not a huge issue, we were hungry and enjoyed them. When the food finally came the dishes were bland and staggeringly hot, I say this from someone who loves hot food, these dishes, even staple indian meals were all extremely spicy. Also the dishes were sub-standard curry house fayre, red or brown paste with overcooked, chewy meat (presumably previously frozen) and few vegetables. The flavours were not infused, meat was not marinated and the spice was all that showed through. I love Indian and Nepali food. I'm not a connoiseur, but I've eaten curry all around the UK and the world, including for many months in India and Nepal - but this place was awful. The next day we were everyone of us ill, all 9 people running to the toilet all day long. This either suggests it was deliberate on behalf of the restaurant, or the hygeine in this place is so poor that we were all made ill. I would recommend steering WELL clear of this terrible establishment, with basic food and a rude proprietor.

This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. Excellent choices including Nepalese dishes which was a pleasant surprise. Great service from friendly staff and very tasty food. Himalayan Salmon was a first for us and an absolute winner. Great value for money. As other reviews show, it is a 'bring your own' restaurant which reduces the price significantly. We booked ahead for a 7pm table and the place was filling up quickly after 8pm with some larger groups so our top tip would be to book an earlier slot.

First off, been given free popadoms and dips goes a long way in keeping loyal happy customers. I don’t usually have starters as I am always completely full from the mains with a portion of rice. All of the Currys I have had have been fantastic. Always worth trying something different from the chef’s specials list. The nan is great, soft and flavoursome as always. Try the garlic nan, it’s a game changer. The rice game is strong and consistent which is nice. Overall great takeaway, consistently good food!!!!!

Fantastic food. Great service. We have eaten in the restaurant and had lots of deliveries too. Always great quality and value for money. Best Indian food in Brentwood by far. Would definitely recommend. We celebrated our sons 16th birthday here last night and they decorated the area our table was in with banners & there were balloons and table decorations too all free of charge and at the end of the meal the lovely staff also bought out a cake with candles & they played happy birthday to him. They made it a very special night. Thank you so much to all of you 👍🏼 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This food is the most authentic we have ever tasted from a restaurant, we cook a lot of Indian food at home from scratch, but this was worth every single penny the flavours and the freshness are superb the vegetables and meat cooked to perfection defiantly recommend and will be back excellent value for money. I actually made a call to the manger to congratulate him. Superb.

We visited as a family group on Monday 27th July on the basis of great reviews (we were staying in Brentwood overnight). We were so impressed by the high quality food, service and hygiene measures. The manager gave us a warm welcome and had already explained on the phone to BYO alcohol. The Mixed Tandor Grill was outstanding - we have eaten Mixed Grills in many Indian restaurants over the years and this was first class! If we did not live so far away we would become regulars. Our teenage sons cleared their plates and we all left delighted.
