Outstanding location beautiful gardens and old style pub. BUT what is with the lady chef and landlord *very unwelcoming although pub was empty * . Felt we were a hindrance. Food was minimal but at high cost . Wouldn't mind if lady chef conversed a little but only got nods and murmurs of yes or no so couldn't even strike... More

Arrived for lunch with friends, fantastic food freshly cooked and plentiful, shame about the ambience of the place and the surly landlord.

We actually passed this pub after visiting the Papermill lock which was so busy. So we turned the car round because it looked inviting. Very traditional pub with a a lovely well maintaned garden. It's is so true what people have written about the owners who have no hospitality whatsoever!!! It was as if the customers were a burden to... More

Fantastic value for a really tasty home-cooked Christmas Lunch. There was a choice of three or four items for each of three courses. The turkey, the salmon and the lamb shank were all excellent and were served in generous portions with assorted vegetables. Starters and desserts were also home made and all very tasty. To top it all off, coffee,... More

Tried to visit but despite checking beforehand that this pub would allow dogs in we met with a negative and surly response to our enquirer. Also told we could go in the garden but if we wanted food we would have a wait as they were already doing 9 meals.

I have only written one review before when I was totally incensed by the way my wife and I were treated in a pub in Lavenham,Essex. This time can only say what a great pub The Rodney is.Had a drink lunchtime ordered a pint of bitter and a large red wine and it was unquestionably good value, returned in the evening for... I have nothing but praise and thanks for a great meal at The Rodney. I just wonder if the reviewers who claimed that the landlord and his wife were miserable are miserable themselves. My wife and I dined on a very hot Thursday evening sitting in the delightful garden enjoying a chilled bottle of Pouilly Fume while enjoying an excellent... More

This is in lovely Little Baddow, a great pub with a gorgeous large garden which gets a lot of sun on a nice day. Old fashioned pub with old fashioned pub food. The food is great, home made and good quality even though basic. The prices are fantastic - £5 for a meal. It is cooked to order not just... More

Worst lunch ever - expensive, tiny portion with slow service grumpy bar man and cook - no wonder the pub was empty. Miserable service with miserable food!

We visited the Rodney for lunch and requested two ham ploughmans, a lemonade and appletize with one ice cube(as I didn't want it too watered down). The appletize came with no ice, when asked for a cube, was told by the miserable bar man, he had given me one which must have melted. He proceeded to put in ice shards... More
