Delicious food as always here at Ellie’s. The restaurant is always comfortable and with beautiful surroundings but at the moment with the Christmas Decorations it looks absolutely magical. Service was great, very attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend dining here.

I attended with a friend and had a mixed experience. It wasn’t a good start with two rolls on one plate placed in front of us without any explanation. As I am Gluten intolerant I had notified the restaurant on the booking. The rolls did...NOT look gluten free and I was about to question it when I noted staff mentioning it to the waiter. They swiftly took it away and returned two rolls again ( one gluten free) on the same plate! Thankfully I’m Not celiac as cross contamination issues there straight away! The starter was tweaked and was nice but mains came with over cooked pork and chips that were actually burnt on the sides. Shocking for any restaurant let alone one that boasts of awards. It was lunch with a friend so I didn’t complain and hope the restaurant takes this as intended which is constructive feedback …think allergy the minute the guest enters the restaurant, it’s standard in Majority to check before taking orders and certainly to be aware shared plates with gluten and non gluten is a big no! And a big no to burnt chips.More

We went to 'Greek Night' on the 24th February, and I paid to take my Mum, Nan and Sister and it was nothing short of awful. Considering this is meant to be a prestigious venue, and 4 stars I would be mortified if I had...a wedding or event here. Staff were incredibly rude to the 3 parties that made up the table we were on, and rude to my elderly Nan and myself. I contacted them directly to complain to which they took next to no accountability. I think they were happy to take your money, as it had to be paid for a month in advance, but assumed if you were under the influence of alcohol (which we were not) that they could speak to you however they like, and not have to do their job. They wouldn't clear our table after more than one of us asking. They served dried and crusty food, luke warm mains at best and we didn't even receive our dessert despite requesting to take it home. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who would consider going for an event, let alone paying thousands to host your wedding there. I think it is one thing to be rude to someone who's paying for your service, but it is just completely disrespectful to be rude to the elderly. ( She only wanted her dinner warmed up!)More

Spent a lovely day at Greenwoods and had a beautiful room in the hotel, ate in their restaurant Ellis’s for our evening meal and breakfast. Service was perfect, lovely waitress who was both friendly and professional. We both ordered the rib eye steak that was...charcoal grilled to perfection, up there as one of the top ten steaks I have eaten, great chunky chips ( could have been a bit more golden for perfection) the extra green salad we ordered was fresh and delicious, nice extra avocado and pomegranate. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce on the side, meringue crumbs added a lovely texture, again absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend.More

Went on a midweek visit to this restaurant using a voucher we got fir Christmas last year. The restaurant itself had a few people in but lacked atmosphere. Served promptly & waitress was very pleasant. First course arrived which was confit belly pork with scallops....Unfortunately the pork & scallops were cold & there was no crispy skin on the pork so it wasn't a pleasant eat. This was an extra £3 supplement for this dish. We did bring it to the attention of the waitress who said she'd tell the chef. At the end of the evening the supplement was still added to the bill so we asked for it to be taken off. On a positive note both mains were lovely & the chocolate fondant dessert was the best I'd ever had. I feel this restaurant just needs an injection of personality,so not sure we'd return.More

Restaurant looked nice - well decorated. Menu was small but everything sounded good. Just opted for mains as it was lunch and we weren’t that hungry. The waitress although nice, couldn’t speak much English and couldn’t understand when we were trying to order and had...to get someone else to help her, she also kept coming over and tbh she was cute at first but became quite irritating in the end. The food although nice wasn’t anything to write home about which was a shame as I remember the last time I came here about 8y ago the food was amazing. Won’t be hurrying back anytime soonMore

We chose Ellis’s Restaurant for a family get together as it was central for us with 4 travelling from Margate, 2 from Suffolk and 3 from Chelmsford. We pre ordered and everyone agreed the food was plentiful and tasty. The surroundings were lovely and due...to the lovely weather yesterday we were able to sit out and enjoy the gardens. Staff were attentive and polite. A lovely day and we will certainly be back. Thank you all.More

Firstly I’ll start by saying the food was really delicious, both dinner and breakfast! However the service…I don’t even know where to start! We were seated at 7:30 - it took maybe 20 minutes for a waitress to even come to us to check if...we wanted a drink and take our order (I had to wave her down may I add) Anyway the starter came 20 minutes later which is fine, following on from this…quite a long time later a waitress bought us the wrong meal. She told us she would go and check but never came back to us to let us know what had happened. So much time had passed and not one sign of a waitress with our food or asking if we wanted another drink. So I went to try and find someone - not one waitress was present in the entire restaurant! So I went out to the bar and asked that lady to see what was happening. Shortly after our meals appeared. At this point it was nearly 9pm. Like I said, the food was delicious! We finished our meal and once again…not one waitress to be found! By this point it was maybe 9:40! So went to find the same lady at the bar again who sent someone out right away! But by the time we were eating that it was basically 10pm which is totally unacceptable considering we were sat at 7:30! We complained to the manager who was very apologetic and we didn’t have to pay for drinks or supplements for the meal! To add to this, there was dirty plates left for our entire meal service on the table next door, encouraging flies etc, it just wasn’t what you’d expect from an upmarket restaurant! I thought breakfast the next morning would be better service wise…it was not! Again left without waitresses for ages! They didn’t bring our toast, offer any sauces! The restaurant food itself is wonderful but the staff need some EXTRME training on customer service!!More

We used a ‘buy a gift’ voucher for a three course meal. We arrived at the restaurant and had to wait for someone to seat us as no one was around the restaurant and this was the theme throughout the night. Having to find someone...or trying to catch someone’s attention. Seeing other people being brought drinks when they had placed their orders after ours. It was really poor service. For the main I ordered the lamb and my husband had the fillet. Both cuts were particularly fatty and seemed like the end of meat cut. It was very disappointing, but the rest of the dish was flavoursome. The best part was the dessert where I ordered the fondant which was cooked perfectly and the reason why it wasn’t a one star, but two. Overall, I’ve had better meals at other places in Essex and wouldn’t return again.More
