So bad. Stopped in here on a Monday lunchtime, in the middle of long drive, for a nice relaxing lunch. Got there at 1.45pm, so I assumed the lunch-time rush would be over. It was - got a table no problem. Pre-ordered and prepaid for my food. As I sat and waited, I noticed people around me were anxiously waiting... More

Waited over an hour and a quarter for food!! If this is the case then we should of been informed beforehand that there was a delay with the food so we can then decide whether to wait or not, of which we would not of waited. When food finally arrived, it was noting special not worth the wait!! Also paid... More

We visited sunday evening the place was busy but the service and food both was excellent, we normally try their starter Fish Coujons which they were not serving today but the fish platter and Salmon was really good. The chocolate toffeepudding was really good, the hostess and all the staff are very friendly.

A large, busy pub. Free Parking. Very wide ranging menu with reasonable prices. Staff helpful. A pleasant Sunday Lunch. Best to book a table, but staff do their best to fit a couple in.

Went to the air ballon for Sunday lunch last week. Phoned to book only an hour in advance and they managed to squeeze us in. The pub was very busy but food service was prompt and food was enjoyable. Probably could have done with more staff on the bar at such a busy time but other than that all was... More

A lovely setting at the top of Crickley Hill the pub has a kerb side appeal. Inside is typical old English complete with beams. We had children with us and they were well catered for, they were given pencils and a puzzle book which kept them occupied. The menu caters for all tastes with plenty of dishes to choose from.... It feels like the Air Balloon has gone downhill. A lovely setting and a big pub. It's just the choice and the quality of the food isn't as it was.

The Air Balloon was originally two ale houses and provided for the needs of the travellers before the days of licensing. Many Balloon ascents were made from about 1784 onwards, and one Walter Powell ascended from Malmesbury and disapppeared without trace about that time. No evidence is recorded, however that he landed here! The Inn was next known as The Balloon in 1796 and recorded as the Air Balloon in 1802.

It was owned as a part of Cowley Manor Estate until the early 20th Century. Current owners Greeneking acquired the Air Balloon in January 2004, after having a refurbishment in 2010 the character and charm is still catering for the needs of todays traveller, and is a busy stop off point for all walks of life.

There is a very busy car park which can be used, therefore ensuring that all customers can park. We also have a new meeting room that can sit 8-30 people.
