We just came back from the all you can eat curry night that was advertised. It was a lovely evening, attentive and professional staff who spent the time to say hi to our son and have a general chit chat. Nothing was too much when we requested hot water to heat up our son’s pouch, which we were very grateful of! The buffet was a fair price and was lovely, a good range of food on offer, the mint chutney was zingy and made your mouth water. A few more stars of the show for me were the lamb rogan Josh and the grilled seabass. All the curries were flavourful and the meat tender. Definitely a not so hidden gem off the A38 and well worth trying out if you are ever passing by.

This pub as not changed and in some ways got worse. This was for a birthday day meal for a family member and like last year 2 peace's of broccoli and 2 parsnips teaspoon of sweed mash at least there not trying to cover the plat with a giant Yorkshire pudding normal size this time. The thing what really annoyed myself was after 1 hour and half we were told we had to leave the table as someone else was coming in for two my partner had not finished her desert. And the other thing was after we had to go out side I bought my partner a hot chocolate the staff member said it's pink and the manager said it still tastes like hot chocolate but it didn't it was disgusting and I felt I had wasted £3.50. To top that of my son fell over going up there septs from the play area looked slippery. This place as not changed in my opinion it's a rip off if you want a family meal there you don't want to be rushed and all they want is your money and want you to leave. I don't really want to come back to this place.

Hi Kevin, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are upset to read that you did not enjoy your visit with us. I want to take this opportunity to address some of the comments made in your review. We have spoken with our front-of-house team who served you on the day. Our roast dinners have always been the same portion size, and we have no other complaints about this. We served over 130 roasts on the day of your visit, and no other booking told us during there visit or after, that they found the portion size lacking. We check back with every table once they have been served. When checking back with your party, we were told that you were happy with the meals. If you had any issues and had informed us, we could have done something to rectify this at the time. All tables are subject to a time limit. This is not the case just for larger tables but for any table. We have spoken to our floor host who has informed us that the first part of your party showed up 15 minutes after your booking time with the other following afterwards. This did eat into your allocated time and as you were seated, our host did inform you of the time that your table was rebooked for. Once your allocated time slot was finished we informed you that we required the table back. Other tables on our covered terrace were available and your party used them for their after-dinner drinks. If you had required a table for an extended period and made us aware of this before your arrival, then we could have tried to accommodate this request. Unfortunately with limited seating and many other guests booked in, we cannot always accommodate extended time slots without prior notice. Concerning your hot drinks, our bar staff did inform you before your purchase that it was a ruby hot chocolate, pink in colour, and even showed you the product before making the drink. This ruby hot chocolate is very popular amongst our customers and we are sorry that it was not to your taste. The steps leading to the children's play area are uncovered (just like the main children's play area. When it rains, they will not be stone dry and all customers should use caution as they would in any public area. Upon hearing about your sons trip, we offered first aid and were told by a member of your party "that it's only a small scratch". I hope the above goes some way to explaining your experience. Kind Regards, Team @ White Horse

Just had a family lunch of 11 of us. The service was impeccable, the variety of food on offer was sufficient and different from usual pub fayre with very tasty curries. Biryani was full of flavour, with good vegetarian and children's options. Trad Sunday lunch excellent with fresh veg. The staff were so friendly and attentive on what was a very busy day. Decor and cleanliness tip top. A real pleasure, we were looked after very well from start to finish. Prices reasonable too, although the desserts may need to be rebalanced between cost and quantity. A lovely lunch for all. Thank you. Steve + 10

Popped in for a pre dinner drink and starter. Sat on the terrace which had lovely views and staff were friendly. It wasn't busy and we just ordered a Bombay mix, one starter and 3 soft drinks. Expected the Bombay mix to arrive with drinks, 30 minutes later we asked for an update and were told 5 mins ..and offered some water as we had finished our drinks. Ten mins later a small pot of crumbly Bombay mix arrived from behind the bar, followed by a very average fatty prawn starter - £25! Waitresses were apologetic and friendly but terribly slow service.

Went out for food on a Friday night and honestly this was the worst food I have ever ate at a restaurant. I’m aware they are now an Indian restaurant however of the very few regular items on the menu, I had the dirty fries and calarmi while my friend had the chicken burger. The chips were dry and overcooked with about a pound of cheese and bacon bits on top and the fried calamari was rock hard and chewy so also overcooked with the strangest presentation I’ve ever seen. My friends chicken burger *unconfirmed* but almost definitely a birdseye chicken burger put in the oven for 10 mins. The waiters were nice enough but the service wasn’t great. Nobody asked how the food was, if they did I most certainly would have told them how bad it was but they probably didn’t because our faces and the full plates when asking for the bill said it all so we just sucked it up, paid the bill and left. its a shame because the food was great when they were a pizza house and I’m sure the Indian food is fine but I definitely not be eating there again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Shocking service. We were taken to our table, this had crumbs on it and was not wiped down. No cutlery was laid out. We were offered drinks and the drinks order turned up wrong. We ordered food which took a while, two meals turned up, the other one was delayed, this then turned up and then we waited another 8 minutes for cutlery to be put on the table. One of the meals was cold, the food was at best mediocre at worst cheap rubbish. The portions for the price were ridiculous. At no point were we asked if the food was ok. We were eventually offered the sweet menu, we decided to try to order some to try and salvage the evening, the waiter or anyone for that fact never returned to take our order, total ignorance. We decided to cut our losses and pay the bill. We were offered an apology, stating that they had staff on holiday. I would not recommend this establishment, overpriced, poor quality food and general lack of service. Never again!

I booked a table for 7.00pm to meet up with 4 other friends to eat, have a chat and catch up after covid. We had a lovely welcome at the door, I person had arrived before me and we were both shown to our table to wait for the others to arrive. As soon as they arrived the guy was at the table wanting to take our food order! We wanted to choose our wine but was difficult as the server just listed wines and wanted us to accept the house wine with a description of red or white! The food menu was on the table when we arrived, no starters, limited choice for mains and deserts were in the bar in a cabinet so quite hard to get an overall picture of what was on offer. The main course with a drink was £15.99. The server came back numerous times to ask for our food order but we wanted to chat over our wine for a bit before ordering. Once we ordered the food it came out very quickly, it was hot and on nice hot plates. The food was okayish, not brilliant I would say at best average. The server came back to clear our plates and to say it was last orders at the bar this was at 8:30pm! Next, he came and said they were closing and we were out of the building by 9pm!!! I was not told when I booked that they closed so early as some of our group had travelled quite a way to meet up, not worth it for a maximum of 2 hours. Also, I was not told that they only take card payments. There was only one other table there, so not at all busy. No atmosphere in the place, it was cold in there a wood burner was lit when we arrived but not refiled so by 8 it was very chilly. Although the staff are very pleasant and efficient (only 2 tables in use) I would not recommend this restaurant for an evening out, not at all relaxing or comfortable.

Hi Jackie, We take customer satisfaction very seriously and are extremely proud of the quality of our food. Our opening times are clear for everyone to find on our website, social media channels, Google, and on the booking page of our website. Due to being so quiet, added to the rising costs of food and electricity, we have had to reduce our opening hours and staff to remain open, we have tried very hard to communicate this with all our customers. On a Monday and Tuesday, we offer a ‘Curry and drink’ menu for £15.99, this is due to reduced chefs in the kitchen, for reasons mentioned above. The drink we offer as part of this menu, is either a pint of Butcombe, Pepsi Max, house red or house white. We did try and explain this at the time. You were welcome to have other drinks, but you would need to pay extra. We wanted to be sure you clearly understood. Our curries are homemade using authentic ingredients and when we asked your group if you were happy with the food, everyone replied yes, we are sad to read that you found them “okayish, not brilliant I would say at best average”. We have received many glowing reviews about our curries over the years. If you had mentioned this at the time, we would have rectified for you. We are sorry to hear that you were cold and will ensure we keep the fire topped up with logs. We also wish more people would come out and join us to create more of an atmosphere, however we understand the cost of living is increasing and it is near Christmas. We hope you do visit us again so we can change your opinion.

Visited as a family for Mothers Day, will never be coming back Venue was dirty, food order messed up and when we pointed out a meal was missed we were told, by possible the owner that "we did not order this meal", even though he asked us at the time what side we wanted with the meal! Rather than just apologise and rectify he was incredibly rude and argumentative I was prepared to up and leave but as they store your card in a locked box they hold you to ransom, something I've never experienced before at a local pub! I would advise all to avoid, simply dreadful from start to finish, shame I have to give it 1/5 as I would like to give 0/5

Hi Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. All our reviews positive or negative are discussed at our weekly team meetings. Further to our team meeting I would like to take a chance to respond to you and your experience. Firstly, please accept my apologies that one meal was missed from your initial order. We were extremely busy mistakes can happen, we are all human. However, during our meeting we were made aware of a different order of events from your review. There was some miscommunication about a table near yours and therefore one of the owners did not think that it was your table that had ordered that meal. As soon as we were made aware of the missing meal (when serving your other food), we apologised and had it prepared immediately. On checking with the kitchen and FOH team, the meal was served within 5 minutes. One of the owners personally brought the meal to the table and informed you that we would not be charging for this meal, which one of your party was happy with. We do feel that you did not need to say to the person serving you that you would write the order down for us, as you were made aware that we were rectifying the problem. I'm sorry you found the venue dirty. As normal, the pub is fully cleaned before we open and in between each reservation, we clean any rubbish from under and around any tables. We are unable to hoover the carpets between each reservation. Due to the layout of the pub, we hold a card for anyone who would like to run a tab. This has been the policy here for over 7 years. We have many different areas in use and this allows us to keep on top of what tables have running tabs etc. If you do not want to set up a tab, we are happy for anyone to pay once they place their order. We thank you again for taking the time to write this review, however, we do feel some of the comments made do not reflect the accounts we have heard from different members of our team.

Met here for an extended family lunch, with people travelling quite a distance to get here. Very impressed, we had a table in a side room to ourselves, attentive service, good food large portions and nothing was too much trouble. Was not expecting the Indian food on the menu, but it was very good. Lovely views as well. Watch out though, it's right off a very busy road

We were staying at a hotel nearby and decided to go for a pub meal here. The staff were some of the friendliest we have met and showed genuine concern that the food was good. The food was excellent and so good we returned the next night and again it was excellent.

A first time for us since the change of ownership. Cosy restaurant with a roaring fire which was particularly welcoming on a cold winter’s evening. We both went for the curry and drink options. My wife chose the Butter Chicken whilst I had the Chicken Jalfrezi. Both dishes were served with Bombay potatoes, onion salad, mini popadoms and mango chutney. Service and food were really good and we will return soon.

Firstly the service is pretty poor. Almost all staff that served us seem unenthusiastic and I got the impression they didn’t really want to be there. Drinks are overpriced. My curry was pretty nice (though expensive) but some of our other meals weren’t great at all. The Sunday dinner portion is really mean for the price with a real lack of veg. It’s crazy as veg is cheap. My kids pizzas were embarrassing (photo attached) and my son asked where the pizza was. The kids play area is also closed off with no explanation. It all feels like a real lack of appreciation for their guests.

Looking for a place to eat on our way home after a matinee at Bristol Hippodrome we discovered The White Horse. On the A38 just outside Thornbury and a hop, skip and a jump from the M5 it was ideally placed. The pub is warm and welcoming, which was great on a cold March night. There is draft beer on tap from Butcombe Brewery of which we sampled a couple of excellent pints. The food is either a curry or more traditional pub fayre. My sister and I had the curry deal which includes a drink for £15.99. Absolutely delicious! With Bombay potatoes, fragrant rice and more mini popadums with mango chutney than you can shake a stick at. The butter chicken was tomatoey and tasty, I had the vegetarian special which was spicy and delicious. The parents opted for fish and chips - a big plate of fish with well cooked chips. The tartare sauce was a bit random, but other sauces were available. Plates were huge so we weren't able to sample the desserts which sounded delicious - chocolate pavlova nearly tempted me! The staff were really friendly and helpful and the toilets were very clean and well stocked. Definitely visit again!
