I had been planning this lunch at Vero Moderno for a while since I had been there once and enjoyed the food as an Italian myself. Besides the pic on Instagram are promising so I was looking forward to having a proper Italian meal like...back home. When I phoned days ago I was told I could leave a deposit to reserve a table or walk in and wait if it was too busy. I went for the second option. Today I finally went and was "welcomed" by the owner who asked if I had a reservation, I said no and he told me to sit at the bar since they were going to close within an hour since a function was going to happen. The way he spoke felt rude like I was rushed, anyway since a friend was almost nearby to join me I let it go and didn't give much importance to it. After if you minutes he said he was able to accommodate my request. When my friend arrived we sat at the table and ordered a sharing plate of Sunday Roast but the waiter pushed us to order a smaller, faster option because cooking the chicken would have taken them 45 minutes, even though minutes earlier he was the one to recommend the dish. So we went for a quicker option and when I jokingly commented that it is a bit difficult to have a place without reservation and a deposit the waiter didn't take it well replying that the fact other places don't have this same policy should tell us a lot about other restaurants implying that everyone else is bad, he reported my comment to the owner who rushed to our table and took it even more seriously saying as an Italian himself that "only Italians give him such this issues, with English people this doesn't happen". My friend then got offended and called him back since the guy had left the table. We were trying to say that this was not the way to talk to people and he wouldn't let me speak or listen and he was even touching our shoulders while talking to us. So dear owner. Maybe you were in a rush because some important football club was going to come to your restaurant but again this is not the way to talk to people. My money is important as everyone else, no matter my origin, my language, my look. I could be a top manager and wear a T-shirt, you don't know. The customer service experience was awful. Vote 0. I could have not paid the service charge or we could have left but we were hungry and the place is far away from other restaurants so we decided to stay. Regrettably, despite the food being good I cannot recommend anyone to go. Especially Italians. After all, we give him always problems.More
