Having stayed at an Old English Inn before, we booked the Bear Hotel with some idea of what to expect. Lovely old building - we stayed in the original part of the hotel on the top floor overlooking the street, quite a climb but that...More

My wife and I visited The Bear Hotel for Sunday lunch. Service was very good with a friendly service at table. The traditional Sunday roast lunch was good with a variety of vegetables and a generous serving of beef. There had been plenty of choice...More

The Staff in the restaurant were polite and efficient, nothing was too much trouble, a real credit to themselves and the restaurant. I had a steak and it was cooked to perfection, my partner had beef and ale pie which again was really good. The...More

Stayed here one night. The bedroom smelt like a gym locker room and the carpet was threadbare and stained in several places. The woodwork is all marked and damaged in several places. The curtains were filthy and falling off the rail (a curtain hook was...More

Only two other tables in use in a very large dining room but the food was well cooked and good value for money, although the tartare sauce with my fish was slightly sweet and very bland so was a complete waste as far as I...More

Only the Bear and Prince of Wales still have SKY Sports in Havant. The beer is reasonably priced and it's got Havants last pool table so it ticks a few boxes. Staff all polite and the food that I saw come out looked nice.

The food is ok here, but have left a lower rating due to the long wait. Three of us visited for quick coffee and lunch, as we were the only people in the bar ordering food we thought the food would arrive pretty quickly. Wrong,...More

This pub looks lovely from the outside but that's where it stops. Stopped off here for an evening and only had one drink. almost £10 for 2 drinks.... Fair enough if our drinks could be enjoyed in a nice environment but you may as well...More

Breakfast was good and plenty of choice. A, bar snack in the evening was good, particularly for a finnicky teenager. We chose a platter to share, I would have preferred the Mediterranean but travelling with a finnicky teenagee we chose chicken wings with rosemary salt...More

I have read it is in a poor state. I am not a snob but like things to be clean. Am i in for a big disappointment?

I'm not going to say it's in the best condition but it is clean. The carpets are a little worn, the furniture is dated etc. The bathroom in the room we had was in dire need of a refurb but I could not fault the actual... More

I will be staying here in August for a couple days using it mostly as a base to visit my friends and check out Portsmouth and Southampton. I really want an official Sunday Roast meal in the British tradition with Yorkshire Pudding and plenty of vegetables. The menu at the Bear website looked amazing right down to the Baked Alaska for dessert (one of my favorite things ever). Is their food good? I have read that the hotel is not fancy but as long as it is clean I am OK with that. What about the food?

Only had the breakfast during my stay and that was a very good, traditional english breakfast. I am sure their Sunday roast would be just as good.
