Stayed in a cottage locally for a few days and passed The Oak whilst walking. It had been recommended by most previous occupants of our cottage and as it was dog friendly tried it for lunch and weren't disappointed. Very welcoming staff, great ambience and the calf's liver and bacon was to die for. Not a cheap meal but well... More

Friendly welcome. Menu choices - very expensive for a pub- no mention of 'home-made' dishes - we were aware of a huge refrigerated vehicle arrive at 12:30... My husband did not like the duck pate and left most of it. Two of us had the fish & chips which were very ordinary - chips did not appear to be freshly... More

After being recommended this country inn, we decided to try it for my birthday. We took our two children who were delighted with their meals. Like others on here we were slightly disappointed to be ushered to our table as soon as we entered the door. It would have been good to see the beers and wines on offer behind... More

Have been here a few times in the evening and on weekends, Sunday roast is the best in the new forest in my opinion and the rest is fresh with plenary of flavour.. oh that gravy! Star are friendly and knowledgeable and the pub has a great atmosphere. More of a food destination but they do have local ales and... More

Five us dined here on a Sunday night, taking advantage of their 20% discount offer. The service was excellent. I chose the Pheasant which was all very hard and came with a roast potato rather than the advertised fondant potato - not a great choice. Others had Roast Beef which they enjoyed. I shared a delicious cheesecake for dessert.

A nice old pub in a nice spot, but all about the food. We were pointed at a table within seconds of arriving, though after a two-hour drive wanted to stand at the bar. Even then, menus were thrust upon us so we felt obliged to move. Sat down to have two doorstop sandwiches, one crab which included no white... More

Visited this cozy, atmospheric pub with my elderly parents on New Years Eve. We had an excellent meal, highlights being beef cheeks, cooked to perfection, tasty chicken schnitzel and the pear and Roquefort salad. The dish of the day was the arancini starter - wonderful! Only disappointment was the rather boring potatoes accompanying the schnitzel. Staff friendly and welcoming -... More

We booked The Oak for a Christmas family meal and there were 15 of us. Booking with Carlos was really smooth and fulfillment on the day was excellent. We were allocated a 15 person table just off the bar and the service was brilliant and the food was just excellent, excellent. I would highly recommend The Oak for any celebration... More
