Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the best pubs in the area now with the new management — delicious homemade food, honest and hospitable service, and a warm and cosy environment. Having lived in the area all my life and with a career in the culinary world, this is...an excellent restaurant worth dining at.More

the pub has reverted to its old name - the Chipperfield Boot - the new owners are very enthusiastic - the place is spotlessly clean and the food is very good - people who have made a brave move to take on a pub and...put all their efforts into doing an excellent job deserve support - if you go once you will be back!More

We recently visited the paddock for the first time and were very pleased with our meal and experience! We had tapas style starters and traditional ‘pub grub’ for our mains which were very tasty. The landlady was very friendly and even gave us some cooking...tips for the tapas ‘patatas Bravas’ which we will be trying out at home. Overall a lovely dining experience with tasty home cooked food - would definitely recommend and visit again soon!More

Returned here yesterday for a quiet Monday evening dinner. We chose the Pork 'N' Beef Meatballs for starter to share, and we both opted for the Chicken Schnitzel which was just the best I have ever eaten. A huge, healthy portion that neither of us...could finish. Very reasonable bill and will not be so long coming back again next time.More

Burgers were very good and excellent 'slaw' and skin on chips. Sadly, chicken wings were not good. Battered and deep fried with unusual, unspicy sauce. Buffalo wings are very easy - baked then drizzled liberally with 'Frank's sauce'. Maybe check out the excellent wings from...'The Wing Factory' in Watford. GET wings sorted then all would be 5 star.More

The new BBQ menu offers something for everyone. I had chicken my husband duck and my daughter the vegan option. We opted to add chips and salad as sides too. So happy to see our local pub open again. Warm welcome from Nicole and team....All in masks and observing covid rules.More

Had a fantastic Sunday roast. Both the lamb and beer were perfectly cooked, and accompanied by lovely sides: cauliflower cheese, crispy potatoes, parsnips, broccoli and a big Yorkshire puddings. Would definitely recommend.

Always a warm welcome from Nicole the owner. So lucky to have this as our local pub. I love the new tapas menu as you can have as little or as much as you want depending how hungry you are. My daughter is a vegetarian...so we chose ‘from the field’ menu. But I have had the meatballs and other dishes on previous visits ... the baba ganoush is to die for and must he tried. The chef is Spanish and all the tapas dishes I’ve had are authentic and yummy. Everything arrived as it should and Nicole recommended a Sauvignon blanc to go with it. We were also bought a complimentary pot of herbal tea. For Nicole to remember we don’t drink ordinary tea was extra special service. The pub is warm and cosy especially after a cold damp walk! We always take our wellies off and pad around in thick socks. She has a couple of log burners for extra cosiness. The tables are spaced so socially distancing is easy and we felt very comfortable being there. Thank you Nicole.More

Omg! We have just visited the paddock, Chipperfield. We should have walked out as soon as we got in there. The barmaid was very hostile. When asked if they did sandwiches she replied NO! We decided to go with chicken skewers and a tomato and...basil salad as the other other choice was a Greek salad and I don’t like olives or feta cheese. When the food arrived, it was two skewers, one piece of chicken on one skewer and a Greek salad, I said excuse me we didn’t order the Greek salad, she replied, abruptly, yes you did, I was so shocked, how rude, I replied we didn’t, she just looked at me and insinuated that my husband had ordered it. Even though I don’t like it. I was ready to stand my ground, my husband said just leave it, we won’t ever come here again. I could not believe that she blatantly refused to replace the salad that she obviously got wrong. So I would say to anybody don’t go in there, unfriendly, overpriced, unsatisfactory standard. An overall below par snack, which including a pint of Guinness and a j20 £24!! Outrageous!!!More

A group of us had dinner here on Monday to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious, I would definitely recommend the tapas. The waitress was excellent and the manager was very accommodating even letting us bring our own birthday cake. Great value too!

We arrived at 6.30pm and were one of three tables there. The food took over an hour to arrive and was not all served at the same time. What arrived was wrong including meat omelette for two vegetarians. The food which did arrive was tasty...but was incorrect, not worth the wait at all. The staff were incompetent but not rude. The order wasn’t written down which I think was a big part of the problem. Even the bill took too long to arrive. We refused to pay for incorrect items and those which were still not served by 8pm. I was tempted to leave without paying after the experience. I think this is a shame as the food that was correct was nice and the staff with more training and management have potential. Sadly there is a lot of improvement needed here. A simplified menu and a basic ordering system with defined roles for staff would improve the place. 8.30 at home with a shop bought cheese supper for me. ☹️More

Average tapas at high prices. Terrible service - we complained about a warm pint and were condescended to by the owner, who refused to replace it (insisting that ipa is supposed to be warm, and that if we wanted cold beer we should have ordered...lager). Plates were wet and table was disgusting - could bring up dirt in the table easily. £90(for 5) reduced to £60 by eat out to help out, for an objectivly bad 50 minutes of dining.More
