Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have just come back from a 1 night stay here, from start to finish it was absolutely lovely. Room spotless, the whole place was so charming and cozy, lovely and warm. We had a lovely man recommend the lamb, and it was perfect. Breakfast...absolutely lovely, couldn’t have wanted more from a hotel, and we have stayed in many!! We also made it to get fuel as the staff gave us a route plan to the nearest fuel station as we were running low. As for the comments on the other posts to the creaky floorboards…. It’s an old charming inn, if you dint want crazy floorboards stay in the premier inn! Thankyou all. Amazing, and will return!!More

I find it difficult to get over first impressions . So when trying to check in , being met buy a surly woman who was more intent on cleaning the coffee machine than acknowledging me it was an uphill struggle from there . However when...I later asked to change rooms because me wife had difficulty negotiating the staircase a different young man was polite ,helpful and sorted me out ,no problem . The room was pleasant enough if you ignore the cobwebs festooned above the bed .The rest of the room and bathroom was spotless. Breakfast was ok but not excellent black pudding no more than 2mm thick rendering it hard and tasteless bacon even thinner and left for ages in a warmer again rock hard ,good sausage though . As a direct result of the breakfast we chose not to risk an evening meal ,shame that . The conclusion is nice characterful hotel with good and bad staff.Missing a trick by trying to save a quid or two at breakfast .More

Visited with my youngest child on the off chance we would get a light lunch on a Friday. I had scallops and he had mac n cheese. As a connoisseur of mac n cheese he said it was the best he’s ever tasted! Great meal,...attentive staff, value for money in a beautiful setting. Will visit with the rest of the family again soon.More

Stayed here as I have done a few times due to travelling but it was too noisy. I could unfortunately hear every snore and more from the room back to back with me and I was honestly exhausted from travelling and attending a family funeral....Food is 5* staff are 5* but sleep is 2* on this occasion.More

A gang of us locals, about 20 of us, all from Fownhope, who support The Greenman regurlary, we’re turned away on Saturday 9th December. We were all stood outside clapping a convoy of 90 tractors, all decorated in festive Christmas cheer. Decided to all go...and have a drink, or two in our local, to be turned away, as a private wedding on, with NO SIGNAGE to let us all know this. We all congregated to The New Inn and all stayed for an evening of festive cheer. The Greenman - you need to sort your act out. Us locals are your bread and butterMore

Turned up on spec on a Tuesday and were met by friendly staff who fitted us in with no issues. Know the pub well but hadn't been for some time so nice to see its reatined all the cosy black and white "pubiness". Good welcome,...good meal and lovely surroundings. Nice atmosphere with Christmas closing in. Happy to recommend and would visit againMore

Turned up at 6:50 as the website said last admission was 7pm, this was incorrect and we sat there for ages and it was really chilly Last entry was 7:30 The venue was lovely and festive and the Welsh lady singer was really good we...danced a lot this helped us to keep warm The food was awful….. it was a boring beige buffet limited to meat sandwiches everything on cheap brown bread, pork pie, strange highly flavoured sausages, shop bought quiche slices, shop bought sausage rolls and a bowl of chips One member of our party was vegetarian so all she could have was a few chips and a tiny slice of quiche, so very poor value for money. I mentioned this to the chap who seemed to be in charge and he just said “we like our meat here!!” No salad garnish or any attempt to make it look appetising. The drinks were London prices so be prepared …… £10:95 for a large glass of wine Only one person behind the bar so took 20 mins to get a drink Green man you need to think more carefully about your events…… not good value for £22More

Walked in just after 7pm on the off chance of a table for two. It's Friday night so we appreciate it'll probably be busy, but no harm in asking surely? Apparently not if you're the older gentleman - the owner / licensee I presume -...who we had the misfortune to encounter. "What now? No chance!" Is it too much to expect "I'm sorry, we're fully booked tonight"? Manners cost nothing after all. Luckily we carried on across the car park to what seems to be deservedly the no.1 rated pub in the village where they greeted us, seated us and fed us. The new owners of the Green Man could perhaps learn a bit about hospitality.More

A lovely place to stay for a few days. Food was good and staff helpful. Only compromise was the small menu didn't change whilst we were there so could be eating same meal twice.

Food excellent. Stayed for 2 nights. Overhead noise from people just walking across their rooms awful, going to the bathroom, talking very loud and disturbed us. As did the slamming of doors which was the only way to shut some of the doors when going...out. We changed rooms the first night due to the noise level only to have the noise as bad in the second room. We also had tvs and heating that didn’t work. When mentioned to the male manager on duty we were pretty much just given a shrug of shoulders. Other than that the rooms are lovely. Young waiting staff very approachable and friendly. Customer service not great- we contacted the Greenman and Redcat who run it following our stay- Greenman took over a week to reply. Redcat no reply at all.More

We desired to try our luck with as a walk in customer mid week and were able to get a table at the start of evening service. Restaurant quickly filled as the hotel guests arrived. All three meals were excellent. I was particularly impressed with...our daughter cheesy pasta, often the kids menu is an after thought. Three meals and drinks were reasonably priced for the quality.More

We booked a table for 6pm on a Saturday evening. When we arrived the pub looked lovely, the garden area was very pretty and as we were visiting Herefordshire with a dog would've liked to eat in the garden area as the weather was so...nice. When we went into the pub we walked to a desk with a gentleman behind it, he looked at us and then proceeded to answer the phone so we stood and waited. When he finished the telephone conversation he advised a lady would assist us. When we saw the lady we asked if we could eat outside, she said they don't do table service outside and there is also a lot of wasps. We were quite shocked that they don't do table service outside for it being a country pub and dog friendly however, it is what is is. We said we would like a drink in the garden before ordering food, the lady then said we would need to order by 6:30 as they have a table of 14 coming in then, she didn't offer a menu I had to ask for one even though she was pushing for us to order asap. I went and got settled in the garden whilst my partner went to the bar to order drinks. I waited 15 minutes until he returned, he said 4 people were ahead of him waiting for drinks and noone was behind the bar when he initially went in there. After discussing we decided that we didn't want to eat there as it seemed we were a hindrance when arriving and if the drinks took that length of time to make how long would we be waiting for food. Disappointing as we were only here for the weekend and wanted to enjoy a nice meal out. Would not return or recommend.More

Beautiful country pub in a lovely location. We visited on Sunday 30th July for a family Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. On arrival we were seated & a drinks order was taken. The waitress brought water to the table & we then waited 50...minutes for our drinks order to arrive. When we pointed this out, the response from the waitress was surly & although she apologised, she explained there wasn’t a lot she could do as there was only 2 members of staff & they were very busy + barrels needed to be changed. The food arrived & we asked for some horse radish to go with our beef (the beef was excellent) but we’re told this would take 5 minutes to come. Although it did come quicker, it was a tiny pot & no where near enough for 3 people. We weren’t asked if we needed anything else or if the food was ok during the meal. The chicken (Sunday lunch) was disappointing & very salty. We decided to pay at the bar, as waiting for a waiter to bring the bill seemed like it would take a while. At no point were we asked if everything had been ok & had to wait a further 10 minutes to pay.More

Pub took booking but decided it didn’t have enough customers on a Monday to open the kitchen, so when we arrived the restaurant was closed. They said they’d phoned and yes, there was one unanswered call on our phone at 11 am but we’d already...left home. So disappointing experience.More

Very slow table service, we skipped dessert because we'd waited over an hour for the waitress to return after bringing the menu. The main course was decent, not great for the price and the seating was very uncomfortable, a kind of hard bench that seemed...to be a mile away from the table and was fixed so we couldn't move it closer. When paying £30 for a starter, main and soft drink I expect better food, better service and a comfortable seat at least, oh and I expect the waitress to return soon after bringing the dessert menu. Appalling service and very pricey!More
