There were four of us. We had a reservation for 5:30pm and were able to take advantage of the 2 courses for £14.95 or 3 courses for £17.95 offer. This is not our first time here, but this restaurant offers a reasonably priced meal with a good ambiance with these offers. For example, the daily soup costs £5.50 alone!
We had the house wine from Corney & Barrow, which is a wonderful delight outside of London. The waiters / waitresses table service focused on pouring the wine, rather than being generally attentive to the table.

The pandemic has affected so many restaurants with closures or cutting corners - so we didn't really know what to expect from the newly reopened Harpenden Lussmanns on the first weekend for over 5 months. To our delight we had the most relaxing, fine serviced, delicious meal out - for ages! My Husband and I chose from the newly devised fixed price menu which catered well with choices for all sorts of diets. The drinks were also beautifully mixed and refreshing. Finally to say that all these delights were served with positive ambiance, music just the right volume, the buzz and turn over of tables kept the place humming. Perfection! What more can you ask for on a rainy Saturday afternoon?

We were a party of 4 celebrating our wedding anniversaries. This was the first time that we had eaten here. The menu is not extensive but we all thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. The food was very tasty and well presented - faultless. Both the Picpoul & Fleurie wines did not disappoint either. Our waiter was Danilo. He was attentive and friendly making us feel right at home.
The environment is Covid secure which is re-assuring. eg. the waiters wear face shields, there is sanitiser, diners are well spaced and not closely approached by the waiters.
We will definitely be eating here again.

The Covid rules do not enhance this experience!
All seemed a bit daft to me. A stand is set up adjacent to table where waiters deposit all plates & requirements. All plates carried etc obviously to the stand. The guests then have to distribute these plates to the diners at table. Plates cannot be hot so guests do not burn themselves handing plates around. Almost self serve! Seemed absolutist bonkers & pointless as staff carry plates out from kitchen. Cheapened the whole experience & was ridiculous in our view. Food generally good. Turfing everyone out at 10pm bit dine elegantly & was off putting and brings things to a rather abrupt end. If this is how it is it will be the death knee of restaurants. May as well stay at home. I won’t be back whilst the restaurant operates with this self serve type - awful!

These rules are set by government, please write to you local MP rather than berating hospitality.
All measures relate to the need to socially distance where possible in line with present guidelines.
In particular the tray and stand is used in order that leaning in / reaching across diners is limited to a minimal reducing the possibility of transmission.
10pm ruling is outside of our control as are all measures relating to covid19.
This is not going anywhere and thankfully the vast majority of the public are both supportive and pragmatic re the new norm when eating out.

We were fortunate to come for dinner at the first day of the 2020 menu. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome. Fish is the speciality of the house and the Red Bream is highly recommended. The Spicy Cod Cheek is excellent but beware it is spicy!
For starters try the Hunter's Liguine or the Kipper Pate.
The house wine is also very good.

Had lunch here today as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and we will certainly return when the scheme has finished . Was really good from the moment we arrived. The Welcome was very good, efficient and friendly but calm and relaxed. Well organised for the current situation with regard to cleanliness and social distancing but not at all regimented. The food was all excellent and great value even at the full price especially the set menu. All food is fresh, seasonal and home cooked. There is a limited choice but well thought out and something for everyone's taste. The atmosphere created by the excellent staff was lovely and we left feeling very happy with our experience. Thank you to the entire team.

We have eaten here before, easy to get to right in the centre of Harpenden. I think it is a lovely room, tables well-spaced, friendly but professional service. We ate off the autumn menu, a set price for two (£16.50) or three courses (£19.50). An absolute bargain at that price. The parsnip soup was rich and served nice & hot. North African style cod cheeks were lovely, plenty of fish, great flavours. The chickpea dish even with halloumi added wasn’t such a hit. With a glass of wine, a beer and a coffee plus service charge the bill was less than £60. Great value. The set menu is available before 7pm on weekdays.

We had our first meal out in 3 months yesterday lunchtime. We chose Lussmanns as I knew they would get it right. Upon entering the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the staff. We were asked to use the hand sanitiser which was great and shown to our table. We then had everything explained to us in a lovely friendly manner and putting myself and husband at ease.
Our starters and main courses, in fact everything, was served on the table next to us and we then helped ourselves with the staff always maintaining that one metre plus distance. All staff were wearing visors and constantly cleaning, also keeping an eye on the one in one out system of the toilets and cleaning the banister once people had been upstairs to use it.
Lovely dinner as always, felt very safe and really enjoyed our meal, will definitely be back and will bring our teenagers with us. Thanks so much.

I had wanted to try Lussman’s Lobster and Steak box for a little while, so when I got an e-mail saying it was the last weekend for the Luxury Food Boxes I just had to give it a try.
Picking up the Luxury Box (from Lussman’s Harpenden) was no hassle at all. The items were well packed and the cooking instructions were excellent.
The starter (stream trout) and the sourdough bread were very good.
The “Mac and Cheese” was the nicest I had ever had. The ribeye beef was excellent, but I don’t think I managed to cook the lobster correctly as this was a little disappointing. The provided Maldon sea salt added a lovely finish to the meat.
The other elements of the box were all very good: the included wine (Prosecco, Chablis and the Chateau Gachon Montagne Saint Emilion) were all excellent and accompanied the food perfectly.
Whilst the Luxury Box did save us the cost of a babysitter and taxi fares – I am looking forward to eating again (inside) at one of Lussman’s restaurants (my favourite being Harpenden).

A family group of 5 of us had lunch at Lussmans yesterday and we were very impressed. The Covid precautions were excellent and the menu options looked great. The food was delicious service was efficient and plates and glasses were placed on adjacent table to us so we could pass the items to whoever ordered them without the need for staff leaning over us. Loved the Fish cake and the Jaffa cake mousse. The interior is always immaculate yet cosy and the outside space beautiful which adds to the experience.

Had a great meal, great service but be aware if you arrive early you could he standing in the cold with no cover for a while. You also serve yourself from a side table where food and drink is left. 4 stars not because of covid issues but very disapointing onion rings that dont taste of onion and slightly bigger starter portions would be better.

We had dinner in the pretty courtyard at Lussmans Harpenden tonight; its one of the few local restaurants with proper outside dining and it was clearly very popular. The staff are friendly and courteous, service was prompt and the covid precautions were managed really well. I had a delicious cucumber and mint refresher to drink and gazpacho to start. The gazpacho was cool and really intense in flavour, full of tomatoes, green peppers and garlic. Perfect for a hot summer evening. I then had a roasted vegetable paella which wasn't so good. It had virtually no vegetables in it and was topped with deep fried tofu which was hard and crunchy. For £13.50 it was a bit unimaginative. My other half, the meat eater, had a pork rillotte (very tasty) and steak frites (lovely sauce). Overall, it was a lovely night out and I would definitely go back but would ask that vegetarians get a better deal (preferably without tofu, goats cheese or beetroot - these three favourite standbys of all restaurants)."

The fixed price lunch menu offered plenty of choice. My devilled whitebait starter and fish cake with mediterranean vegetables followed by bramley apple crumble provided a very tasty and satisfying meal. The dining room has bags of character and the staff were friendly and attentive making for a most enjoyable business lunch. Definitely to return to on another occasion.

We ordered our burgers online on Tuesday evening after seeing them advertised on Lussmans website and Facebook. This is our 2nd takeaway from Lussmans and loved both BUT burger night was delicious
We had two portions of raw slaw, lovely and fresh and zesty! We all opted for cheeseburger and fries. Wow. Lovely brioche bun, wonderful burger, and delicious fries. Topped off with a side of onion rings!. Favourite lockdown (2) takeout. Well done Lussman's. Definitely ordering again!!!!

We have been self-isolating since March and have had lunch four times at Lussmans Harpenden in between the two Lockdowns. Each time we have felt extremely safe. The NHS QR code is on the door, Sanitiser is in place just inside the door, the Waiters wear visors, we were welcomed like friends and taken to well-distanced tables. Our Starters of Hunters Linguine and Kipper Pate with Sour Dough bread were very tasty and our Mains of Steak Frites and Chips, Chicken Schnitzel and Linguine and sides of honey roasted parsnips and onion rings were very flavoursome. We finished with a good Cappuccino.
