Pretty much dead at about 7 New Year's Eve. Clearly a place focused on food, but, Place had a really good selection of real ales from local breweries, well kept and well served. Tasters offered on some untried varieties Overall pleasant but very quiet

This is a common Sunday lunch venue but with the pub now having changed hands, we used it for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. It is located in a lovely spot and the pub was very busy as usual. Our table of 8 had been nicely located in an alcove, I had the Welsh Rarebit starter from the... More

Welcomed by a roaring open fire and smile from the barmaid. We sat behind a column which meant we were on our own which was nice. The food was excellent with very healthy portions. There was a friendly Labrador who stayed by our side whilst we ate. I can not recommend this pub highly enough. Well worth a visit.

Booked for Sunday lunch (festive menu). No problem with seating and to be honest the bar or restaurant area, although a little squeezed, both looked fine to us. There seems to be a thing about asking if we’d like to order drinks the moment we sat down (not just here but lots of places now do this?) so we asked... More

A group of us - we do pub walks - had lunch there (and a couple of pints). The visit was pre-arranged and the food ordered before we set off for the walk. We had known the previous owners and are pleased that the new people are maintaining the same high standard. We all ate from the Pub Classics and... More

This was the 3rd pub we'd tried mid -afternoon, hoping for a lovely Sunday roast, in the immediate area, so it was fingers crossed! The pub is very very tucked away, at the end of a long and windy country lane, and so it was bound to be a pub inhabited by locals or 'those in the know' That can... More

Visiting our son at Hatfield and looking for somewhere to eat; looked on Trip Advisor and this place caught our eye. And it is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Ten minutes drive out of Hatfield and into the country this is a lovely country pub. It had a lovely open fire in the centre of the... More

We've been going to the Candlestick for a number of years but this was our first visit since the change of ownership/management this year. I booked a table a few days in advance to celebrate a special birthday only to find that Peter (the owner) had forgotton to record our booking. As a result we were unable to be served... More
