Not many places open to eat in Deal on Sunday Evening, so had a hunt around and found this pub on the Coast Rd with good reviews . Popped in late afternoon to book a table, and it was very busy with mainly men drinking...lager and watching Brighton vs Man U, so it really is more of a pub with food rather than the other way around. Anyway when we arrived later, a table for two had been reserved, and there was a mix of people just drinking and some eating.
Menu was quite varied and I had beef bourguignon, with mash and broccoli. It was not quite as flavoursome/red winey as a true French version, but was still very good with plenty of very tender beef. My companion had Fish Pie, and quite a substantial offering and also very tasty. Both dishes seemed to be home made, and not the usual reheated stuff brought in from a mass caterer ( portions much bigger for a start).
Good pint of Masterbrew as well , what not to like !
Only one slightly annoying point was that although the match had finished, all three screens in a relatively small pub were left on with some obscure golf tournament. So I had to listen all the time to some American commentator from the TV just behind me. Looking around I could see that nobody at all in the pub was watching it, so would have been better to just switch it off.More
