Mixed feelings

We visited here last night and I definitely left with mixed reviews. On the one hand the place is beautifully decorated and kept and the food was well cooked and plentiful and very tasty. Sadly what let it down for us was the lack of customer service. We had to wait ages after seating for anyone to come and take our orders. Once we’d eaten again no one came to clear our plates and I had to ask someone who was passing. Then at the end I had to ask two people before we finally got our bill. It was a Monday night and they were definitely steady but didn’t seem rushed off their feet and there were waiters milling around so bearing in mind their prices are not exactly dirt cheap I really didn’t feel we received a service we had definitely paid for.

Somewhat Disappointing.

We booked our table some 3 weeks before our visit and at the time were offered a table at the front of the restaurant by the window as one of our party is wheelchair bound. At that time no mention was made that on Friday and Saturday there was live music nor that the main entrance to the restaurant to the side of the building had steps up into the eating area. The latter required me to go in and ask the staff to open the door on the High Street Once the live music started it was obvious that a table within 3 feet of the keyboard and speaker was not suitable and we asked to be moved. The service was patchy, our drinks and first course arrived quickly. Our second course arrived before our first course dishes had been cleared away. This may have something to do with a manager who seemed to spend more of his time chatting to customers than watching what was happening within the restaurant. On two occasions when I caught his eye he continued talking to the same customers, catching a waiter as they passed him on their way to the kitchen to deal with us. The waiting staff themselves were all very good and keen to help We had a cold Mezzo which was extremely good, accompanied by Turkish bread - nothing like I’ve eaten in Turkey or other Turkish restaurants. It was swimming in fat and difficult to tear ,or indeed eat. Our second courses were 2x Vegetable Moussaka - it was one of the best we’ve eaten - with two types of rice which I declined as it seemed an odd accompaniment. The minced lamb kebab was also much appreciated. Were there a way of registering ambiance and food separately I would happily give food a Good.

Good portions, good prices and good service

I went here with my family for the first time last week and were pleased with what was on offer for the price. The mixed mezes, followed by the Aspendos Special was great value for money. It is very much a casual dining experience, however being a huge restaurant so can get very busy and noisy. I could not fault the service, it was efficient and the manageress was very attentive.

Excellent lunch in spite of the cold day

I went to Deal to meet up with a friend who lives there for his birthday. I'd looked up places to go and found this restaurant which appealed as we both like Turkish food. Sadly because of the current restrictions we were the only customers actually on site and sat on a table outside - not ideal as it was cold and breezy. However this was certainly made up by the superb food we had. The service was very friendly and welcoming and we were brought blankets to ward off the worst of the cold! I had a chicken and kofte kebab which was served with rice and salad. The salad was very crisp and fresh, the chicken and the kofte were well cooked, tender and moist. My companion had the lamb chops which he thoroughly enjoyed but could not manage all of them as it was such a generous portion. But he was able to have the remainder boxed up to enjoy at home later. The Turkish red wine that I chose was smooth and flavoursome and a great accompaniment to my kebab. Excellent value too - I was expecting a much higher bill. A great birthday celebration lunch, very good service and we look forward to going back after 17th May when, hopefully, we will be able to sit inside and enjoy it in full

Brilliant lunch deal

Lunchtime deal: £9.95 for two courses and coffee or tea. Visited on a whim and found the restaurant roomy and inviting. I had a table by the window overlooking the coastal road and the English Channel - very nice. The lunch menu gives a surprisingly wide choice of starters and main courses. I had the Falafel starter which, to my surprise, was actually quite tasty (I usually find falafel quite nondescript but was determined to give it another try). It came with a basket of warmly baked bread which was excellent, the falafel was served on hummus and with some salad. My main course was chicken shish which consisted of a more than adequate quantity of grilled chicken pieces, nicely grilled to be tasty bit sufficiently moist and tender to be very pleasant to eat. The dish came with two types of rice and a large bowl of mixed salad. My cup of tea was included in the price and this made it exceptionally good value and I felt that I had enjoyed a tasty meal which had both quality and quantity (6'2" and not afraid of a good portion) to make me want to return quite soon and with company.

Worst service ever

What an absolute shambles phoned at 8 for a delivery paid card said 25 mins. After 40 phoned them couldn’t find my order then it was apparently with the driver another 20 mins phoned back the a different member of staff answered not knowing what was going on the music in the background was so loud that they couldn’t hear me. So they say there extremely busy but it was over an hour now if they would of said it was gonna be that long I would of gone to pick up myself. As this was my birthday I was truly dissatisfied with the service I received . The food never turned up no refund so truly would never ever recommend to anyone so let down on a special day

Great food but service sadly lacking

We visited this restaurant for our anniversary meal. Food was delicious, very similar to many Turkish restaurants I’ve been to in the past. Large portions! Very loud music and atmosphere, it was very busy and clearly popular! service however was poor, sadly we waited long times for drinks that didn’t turn up. Staff didn’t seem to know who was doing what, we were served our meal without sides and not offered sauces, we had to sit and wait for someone to pass until we could ask for things we needed. The restaurant was clean and pleasant enough, would pop in again if I was passing but probably wouldn’t visit for a special meal again.

On a Friday night this is definitely a place for groups, with really loud live music ( not Turkish...) and way too much food. If you are looking for a relaxed, authentic Turkish meal then this is not the place for you. We were very disappointed.

Very dissapointed

My husband on two occasions booked a table for 9/7/21 for 8-8.15pm,firstly for 2 people then rebooked a few days later to 4. On both occasions he had personally spoke to someone via the side door who booked us in, he left our home phone number so we could be contacted. We arrived on time, to be told that our table wasn't available, we were asked by a young lady if we would mind waiting 10 mins. We accepted the wait and said we would sit outside with a drink. A young man approached as we were about to go out the door to inform us somebody had our table and the wait would be 45 mins maybe longer,then walked away. The young lady agreed to a drink each on the house,we again accepted the offer and went outside to wait for someone to take our order. The young man came outside to take our order and we mentioned the offer of the drink on the house which he disagreed with. We asked to speak to the manager but after 10 mins of waiting and no sign of the manager or any member of staff we decided to leave. It was the first time in 14 months that we had all been looking forward to a meal out and chose Aspendos because of the good reviews and knowing other people that had eaten there. The evening was totally spoilt. My husband e mailed them the following day and still has had no response. To say very dissapointed is an understatement.

Amazing Front of House staff, Brilliant Food

Busy Saturday night, no live music though, shame as we were recommended it for the atmosphere mainly, Complimentary food was given to us by a very smiley young girl, we then spoke and was served by Jade who spoke very highly of the other staff members, who we later found out that one was named Amelia. Some problems with the food arriving at different times, it was handed out by Jade who always had a smile on her face and a few jokes with the rest of our table as she put the food down. All staff were rushed off their feet but always were attentive and asking if everything was okay. Food wise it was all lovely, I had a nice lamb shank, so tender it fell off the bone! Delicious food and great service, I cannot fault them for what they do. If you’re looking for great food and service in Deal, go to Aspendos! We will definitely be back.

Sorry won’t be visiting again

Booked dinner here to catch up with 2 friends it was very busy and felt very full, tables did not appear reduced to enable social distancing. It was also incredibly noisy, normal conversation was impossible. Plenty of young staff who are enthusiastic but need better training, food was ok but very poor choice of non alcoholic drinks, no low alcohol wine or alcohol free spirits, I really don’t want a can of coke or a fruit juice so ended up with water which wasn’t even chilled !

Turkish Delight

We entered and were shown to our seats quickly, they explained all he menu too us as I’m a veggie. We ordered some drinks while we waited for our starters. We were served the complimentary bread and dips which were just delicious. The lady who was our waitress was absolutely delightful and made us feel really at ease there. Starters came perfect, mains came and we couldn’t believe the size of the portions we even had to double check what we ordered. The food and service was no less than amazing. Will definitely return again

Tasty food and lots of it

We experienced friendly service from the start, with the offer of a taster of both Turkish red wines before ordering a bottle of our preferred one. We ordered the Aspendos Special. Advertised for 2-3 people it was certainly more than enough for two - a mountain of tasty different meats on a bed of rice, bulgar wheat and salad. As we couldn't manage it all, Our friendly waitress packaged up the left-overs as a takeaway which we enjoyed as a picnic lunch next day. Including the olive appetiser and baklava afters at no extra cost, this was a great value meal.

Disappointed

We booked a table on a Saturday night…so expected it to be very busy. However, the noise levels were so bad we couldn’t have a conversation without shouting and this spoilt the evening. The food was rushed, getting the main course when we still had our starter. The food was also very dry, I had a meat dish and it was very difficult to eat. The lighting is far too bright, with spotlights everywhere. The restaurant need to sort out the acoustics and provide salad and sauces with some of their main meals. The other point was the the prices, these had definitely been increased since our first visit in June, making it very over priced, really not worth the money. I’ve been to Turkey numerous times, meal times are relaxing and this experience was nothing like the real thing. It’s a shame because we had waited a while to go but will not be returning. On the plus side the takeaways are excellent so will stick with those in the future.

Go there hungry …

The restaurant is light and airy with booth-style tables. The menu has all the usual Turkish treats … I went for spicy Koftas. Don’t worry about ordering a starter, they provide olives, Turkish bread and tzatziki which is lovely (and filling!). My main plate was huge and packed with yummy rices, salad and two giant koftas. All totally delish. The young servers are polite, friendly and efficient, they are a credit to your restaurant. Prices are reasonable for the quality/quantity of food severed.
