Best landlord in Deal

Had an amazing evening in the Deal Hoy went as party of a bubble. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. We Enjoyed gorgeous pizzas and enjoyed watching them cook in the outdoor pizza oven. The almost secret beer garden had a great atmosphere and we were greeted and checked up on by the charismatic Land lord. We brought along our family Labrador who was more than welcome, along with our children. Zak the bar manager went above an beyond when our friend pascale had forgotten his wallet. Can’t wait to visit again.

Unusual concept, but it works.

Here we have a back street pub with a large garden/yard that has installed a wood-fired pizza oven. After a friendly welcome we were shown to a table outside, all very well spaced. The menu is just pizza and a few starters, the pizza delivered in takeaway boxes to the table to be eaten with the fingers. They were really nice, tasty, fresh and thin and crispy as they should be. There is excellent Shepherd Neame real ale as well. Fully recommended, but you will need to book for the evenings.

Ahoy there, it's a back street bonus

We stumbled across the Deal Hoy on a side street away from the main drag and thoroughly enjoyed a brief visit. What you don't see from the street is a well-planned backyard with plenty of well-spaced tables and the pizza oven which is a real selling point - plenty of punters were tucking in or collecting takeaways. Comfortable setting, good range of beer and a friendly atmosphere, well worth checking out.

Disappointing

We booked the Deal Hoy for a special meal as the pizzas were highly rated. The pub was very cold with both front and back doors open “because of Covid”. We were moved to another table, which was a bit warmer, but jumpers and coats were still required. Things didn’t improve when the 4 pizzas we ordered looked nothing like the pictures on trip advisor. The dough was undercooked, white, tasteless and too floppy to eat without cutlery. Overall a very disappointing experience - we will not be returning.

Needs to improve

High hopes dashed. Knowing new tenants had taken over we decided to visit. Without doubt the Deal Hoy has the best beer garden around. It should be a huge asset with summer here. Walking into the garden we were greeted with sacks of rubbish next to the pizza ovens. Bins full of glass bottles next to the rubbish and a rusty old bread bin waiting to be taken away. At the rear of the garden were 2 old chip fryers. Looking around it’s obvious to see the garden hadn’t been swept since last summer. Visiting the gents I could see it hadn’t been cleaned for a few days. Sadly there’s nothing uplifting to report and we left feeling let down. Knowing pubs are going through time with the cost of living crisis I can’t see the point spending money in a pub where standards are low. We will try another visit as we want to support local businesses and hope things have improved.

Perfect pizza!

Really fancied a pizza tonight and we were so happy and lucky to have stumbled upon The Deal Hoy. We had lovely warm welcome from the owner, who took the time time to talk us through the different beers and have a taste. The pizzas were delicious, beautiful combinations on crisp and thin bases, my prosecco came in a small bottle which was perfect!

Great little local pub

This is a great little pub/restaurant. Located off the main high street. This is our second time visiting whilst on holiday. Always a friendly atmosphere and the food is always good quality. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on offer. The pizza oven in the garden is great, offering classic Margarita's to a sweet chocolate, marshmallow and banana pizza.

Went for a meal with a friend and a couple of drinks, was pretty disappointed by the miserable and unfriendly middle aged men behind the bar who ignored us for the first few minutes then eventually found the energy and will to direct us to the table I had reserved. We asked to sit outside, and they found a table, with other people then sat on right next to us because they couldn’t be bothered to move a reserved sign. They got drinks orders wrong, for which there was no apology, they were impolite and had all the enthusiasm of a pair of snails crawling over ground glass. It’s a nice location and looks good, but the gruff middle aged men that seem to be running the place need to retire ASAP and be replaced by some staff that can actually summon up a smile and some shred of enthusiasm which the miserable middle aged contingent milling around seemed to struggle to do. Skip this place. Deal is nice so look elsewhere. The other customers seemed quite miserable too. We held doors open for people and moved out of their way, with no thanks. It was like an evening from Shaun of the Dead.

Real Italian Pizza

We had been here for pizza several times pre COVID. Finally got round to coming again, and so pleased we did. Absolutely the best pizza in Deal! Real Italian pizza cooked in real wood pizza oven. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. If you’ve been to Italy and you crave ‘real pizza’. Deal Hoy is the place to go…. 10 out of 10

Lovely back street pub

Went in on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t as busy as we’d expected. We had a hot dog from the garden BBQ which was scrummy albeit not cheap (it is Deal after all). Seemed to have lots of regulars, but were still welcoming to visitors

Sat in the garden as it was a lovely day. Chose seats near the door as there was a group further in the garden smoking/swearing, which is fine but we had the kids with us. The bar maid then came out and said we needed to move as this was the smoking area. I pointed out the other group were smoking and that there were plenty of spaces but she then said we were sat at the regulars table and would still need to move. Really unwelcoming. Would not recommend.

I’m beyond grateful to all the staff at the Deal Hoy for making our engagement party so special. From the incredible food and drink, to the care and attention we received - they made it an unforgettable evening. So many of our guests commented on what a fantastic place it was! We can’t thank you enough!

Great place to visit.

Came here as a recommendation particularly wanting to try the pizzas. The pub is very clean and modern. It was obvious that this pub is well supported by regulars, as being away from the high street, it still attracted people to it. The wine selection, as well as the awesome wood fired pizzas are a must have.

The tastiest pizzas in Deal by far! The service and staff at the Deal Hoy are so friendly and welcoming. We had the most wonderful evening with friends and can’t wait to return. Next time we will sit in the gorgeous garden.

Smokey garden

It would be nice if the customers were offered the same mask as the cook wears when he’s smoking out the beer garden! Spoils what is a nice pub.
