My wife had booked what she thought would be New Years day lunch but turned out to be breakfast! The waitress was very good indeed but when booking the staff should have stated only food from the breakfast menu was to be served on New Years day. My wife had the English breakfast and I had the vegetarian breakfast - both were good. I had a zero alcohol beer Brewdog Nanny State 330 ml but found out later it was charged at £4.40 which is excessive. We both had americano coffees but they were weak. I only gave 4 stars due to the very good service otherwise 2 stars would have been appropriate so we wont recommend coming here. The room was cold.

We were on a £99 deal which included a 2 course dinner and hot breakfast for 2 people with an overnight stay. We shared the squid starter, it was lovely and a big portion, followed by mains. I had the crab and crayfish linguine which was delicious. My other half had the steak and chips. The steak had that great chargrilled flavour but was slightly overcooked. It was more medium rare than rare, but still too nice to send back. We shared an Eton Mess dessert (as the brownie had all gone unfortunately). The waiting staff were all really pleasant and chatty, they couldn’t do enough for you, and were careful to social distance at all times.

We ate here on a weekday evening and had excellent service and food. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff behind the bar who showed us to our table in the restaurant. The pub has a lot of character and charm without being too olde worlde. There is a good choice on the menu, the usual pub grub but also some excellent different choices. We had the chicken breast which came with a delicious mushroom sauce, and a trio of pork which was amazing. The food was really tasty and well presented. It was good to have something a bit different and it was excellent value for money. The service was friendly, professional and efficient. There was a bit of a wait for food (which we only noticed because we were going to the cinema afterwards) but it was well worth it as the food was clearly freshly prepared and cooked. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings. Highly recommended.

Came here last night for dinner. My go to if I’m meeting up with friends. I got the pork belly. I asked the blonde waitress (Chloe, I think) what Boulangere potatoes are. The reply was “I dunno.” First time I’ve had to google something because the staff don’t know their menu or try and find out if someone’s asking. The dish looked delicious, pork cooked very well. I moved my crackling to the side I was greeted with a GREEN and GREY square of potato. It was also hard and dry. I think I must of had the corner piece maybe? My favourite part is the crackling but it was inedible! I have pretty strong teeth and could not break it at all. I moved my crackling and potato to the side after observing it and wanted to wait for the waitress to come over to ask how our food was. I waited a while but my friend had almost finished her meal and I was starving so I just decided to eat it (minus the crackling) as I didn’t want to eat a lump of pork on its own or eat on my own after my friend had finished. About 5 minutes after we finished our meal our plates got taken away and the waitress said “can I get you anything else?” I said sorry but the potato was dry I thought it was pretty bad. She looked at my plate with just the crackling left and went “yer looks like it”. I said I did try and flag you down but you were pretty busy. It was a funny colour and really dry and hard. My friend also said “yeah it did look like old potato and over cooked” The waitress said “I think it’s meant to come like that”. She then walked off to the kitchen. She was in there a few minutes obviously chatting to the chefs and when she come back out she looked at me with a face like thunder. I have been a waitress and I was baffled by the attitude. A simple apology or acknowledgement that I didn’t have the best meal would of been great. I wasn’t looking for a freebie. Instead I was made to feel like I made the whole thing up. She didn’t come over after and avoided our table until the bill (which she charged me full price and didn’t say a word). I remembered when I got home I had taken a picture of the meal when it first come out and zoomed to see if I could see the potato under the crackling. I’m glad I could see it slightly because I didn’t feel as crazy! Covid has been hard on the hospitality industry and I am understanding about longer waiting times, potential staffing issues and staff perhaps being stressed but no reason for the stroppy teenager attitude that made me feel uncomfortable. We always get 2/3 courses each and a bottle of wine or two but plenty of other good places to eat in Faversham. The Albion, Posillipo, The Carriage... Me and my friends will be heading there instead and swerving this place in the future!

It was our first time in that part of Kent. We visited the hotel for four nights in late July. The house manager , Brendan and all the staff could not have been more welcoming and focused on creating a "safe and reassuring" environment given the current situation. The new covid processes were applied in a calm and helpful way, with access and exit being closely monitored by staff. Our room was very clean and comfortable with tea and coffee in a paper gift bag on arrival and a top up of items during the week, on request. Our Breakfasts were brought to our table in the restaurant area in a timely manner and all was of a good standard. We ate at the Inn on two occasions and were seated in one of two sensibly spacer outdoor eating areas. The menus provided a good choice of food and were enjoyable. We booked in advance to eat for our first night and chose to eat there later in the week. On the other nights we ate at the Carpenters Arms, Eastling (great pies) & The Plough at Lewson Street. Both were very pleasant and again, with well controlled processes in place. We sat inside at the Plough, but there was plenty of space in the restaurant area away from the bar. During the days we visited beautiful gardens. Doddington Place Gardens , Belmont Gardens & Mount Ephraim . All locations were wonderful and had a limited, but good choice of food and drink. We also visited the local Gunpowder Mills ( shaded walks), Old Town Quay, The Bull and area (West Street) and local midweek Markets.

We have visited and stayed a few times. It is an atmospheric, olde worldly building and friendly. The town is on the doorstep and quite often you see Bob Geldof walking by. Car parking at the rear is chargeable by Council. Food is good and a diverse menu for breakfast is included in the average charge of £100 .00 per night.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, you'll do better going elsewhere. Sorry to be brutal but we experienced practically non existent service, poor quality, over cooked and dry burgers and a distinct lack of customer interest. Shame really, as its a nice pub. May be the staff and kitchen were just having an 'off' day? But not good enough really when so many establishments are crying out for custom since lockdown.

I have always loved the Sun. This ancient pub is well maintained, being part of Shepherd Neame's excellent estate, has letting rooms, and above average pub food, served in its own restaurant, although bar food is freely available. I took my son along for his first visit, part of introducing him to the many delights of Faversham. I had booked a table for lunch, and having successfully negotiated our way around the somewhat underwhelming welcome extended to us by the manager, we were shown to a pleasant table. Once past the manager, the service extended to us by the waiting staff was well up to scratch. My calamari were good, my son's chicken wings pronounced as ' very tasty'. His cod and chips was very generous, and the double cooked chips 'delicious'. My dressed crab salad was as good as I have enjoyed anywhere (including very exclusive fish restaurants in London's West End). Sadly, the wine list here, as in other Shepherd Neame pubs, has badly slipped. This is very hard to understand, as the chain has free access to the excellent Todd's wine merchant range. Owned by Shepherd Neame, Todd's has always been one on the very finest commercial wine merchants in England. I stuck to the Annuela Sauvignon Blanc by the glass. Shipped from Chile, this is as good a house white as you'll find. We had a nice lunch before going on to explore Faversham together.

We stopped in for lunch after the Shepherd Neame tour having heard good things. The pub is laid out well with possible rustic seating by the fire or a well dining area. Prices are reasonable and the menu looked inviting. Sadly the meal took a very long time to arrive after our order at the bar, but to their credit they did apologise and offered us a complementary coffee which was very decent of them. When the food did arrive it was excellent and well worth the wait. If we're in the area will come again.

Popped in with my mum on dreary midweek night before Xmas, we were greeted by a jolly blonde waitress who showed us to our table. Where we both ordered Chicken Supreme which arrived approx 20 min later, it was a colourful dish, innovative with pickled veg & salad, bit different from usual Shep Neame pub food in a good way. Desserts were ace mum went for their low calorie option & myself a pineapple pudding with coconut ice cream, which for money I couldn't fault. Drinks were decent too house Sauv Blanc All in all it was surprisingly good from the service to the food & drinks. I think this shall be our new local food place from now on, as the Phoenix has lost it ambience since it lost its pub vibe & gone too trendy Wendy!

We popped to the Sun Inn, Faversham on Thursday and had the most amazing lunch of Dressed Crab, with salad, new potatoes, asparagus and pickled fennel and radishes and aioli. The portions were generous and the service outstanding, I would definitely recommend you look at just not their menu but also their daily specials board. Well done to the Chef's, Brendan and all the staff.

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend. I have to say the food was very good the chefs certainly have the skills and a passion for food. I’m pretty sure whatever we ordered it would have been enjoyable. We stayed in a lovely room and breakfast was equally as well as our evening meal the previous day. Faversham is a very interest place in regards history so the architecture is fascinating. With being so close to Whitstable and Broadstairs it makes for a very good place to stay when these places are fully booked. Ultimately I would say we would definitely stay at the Sun Inn again and probably actively seek to do so when visiting the Kent coast.

Night out with friends on the Saturday we were all allowed back out! Great food as always, great service thanks to Shazzer & Chloe and Brendan with his team organised a safe environment for everyone which all of us customers seemed to respect. You could see the staff wiping down surfaces all the time and the flow of customers never let it get crowded at all. In fact it wasn’t busy enough for a good atmosphere so let’s hope the hospitality industry is respected and they can all be busier soon for us to enjoy. Well done The Sun!

I had lunch in The Sun Inn during partial lock down. The fish finger sandwich was to absolutely die for, in fact it was the best I've ever tasted. I convinced my partner to drive from Rochester to Faversham to experience it outside of lockdown and I was hugely disappointed with the food. The fish finger sandwich on granary bread was small cod goujons between shop bought whole meal bread. What happened to the hand cut granary bread and large home made cod goujons? My partner had the apple and pear sandwich which was also equally disappointing. The chips were over cooked and over crispy. No table check to see how the food was. Hugely disappointed having dined there 4 times before. Have you lost your chef?

We were here for a birthday party as part of a large group of 18 people for Sunday lunch. We were all served together on piping hot plates with good portions of meat & veg. The roast potatoes and the veg were really good and the gravy (served separately in gravy boats) was superb. I couldn't fault the food or service. So much so that another friend who was there and has a birthday later this month has rebooked us to have the Sunday lunch again.
