We chose the burger option - with chips and gem lettuce. Without warning they arrived each with a thin wooden knife and fork which were not wrapped in a sealed bag for hygiene sake, all in a very flimsy, oblong cardboard box. The napkins smelt damp. Although we understand we are eating out in covid times so things have changed, it was not possible to eat the burgers with the wooden implements and so, not wishing to eat it with fingers, had to remove the bun, limp lettuce and use the wooden needle provided, through the burger and nibble it, including the chips, but had to leave half as they were too hard to stab. My partner preserveered with his knife and fork until it broke and gave him a splinter. On leaving I did approach one of the staff to say they need to warn customers that there is no cuttlery or plates provided, prior to taking their order - she was not interested at all. We paid £16+ drinks and had the burger been absolutely wonderful and not chewy and pretty salty I possibly would have enjoyed it stabbed like a toffee apple, but Mac Donald’s would have been cheaper and expected to eat with fingers option. Kitchen staff were in the restaurant without masks.

It was great to be able to go back to Faversham antiques market, and drop in to what has become our favourite pub for lunch. At first we were a bit disappointed that the menu was more limited than usual, but the friendly staff explained the situation that they faced trying to put on a service while being COVID safe, and in the end we were really glad that we went for fish and scampi with chips instead of a Sunday dinner cos it was really tasty - my other half had Sarah's special chips with his, so they came smothered in cheese, bacon, spring onions and chutney which he loved. We sat in the garden area which is pretty and well kept. Everything served in card boxes with wooden cutlery, lots of hand cleaner and a really well organised one-way system and screening round the pub. Who'd have thought that would make a 5 star review?? We had a great lunch and look forward to going back

What a fabulous old traditional pub The Anchor is. Beautifully decorated in estate colours and furnished like a country house with mahogany, sideboards, solid wood tables, and Harley Quinn chairs. The stone and brick floors slightly uneven in keeping with the building of such age. My wife and I had booked in for dinner, as we had done Many times before, and were met by the charming and very professional Mark and Paige, who showed us to our table, already laid up with rush mats and quality cutlery. Our waiter Isaac was well presented, polite and charming.
We ordered our drinks which were delivered in quick time, accompanied with warm, crusty bread, and an olive and balsamic dip.
My wife ordered the cod loin with a crumb crust and seasonal vegetables whilst I plumbed for the stuffed pheasant breast in a creamy mushroom sauce, wrapped in bacon, with fresh vegetables and roasted new potatoes. Again we didn’t have to wait long before our beautifully presented dinner was laid before us.
The food was perfectly cooked, Hot and delicious. Helpings were plentiful and left us with little space to sample the delicious puddings that were on offer.
All the food is home prepared to order by a very good chef and the entire evening was extremely pleasant while our needs were attended to at all times.
My wife and I would highly recommend this superb pub, which is clearly the hub of the community at the standard Quay end of Faversham, one of the most amazing mediaeval towns in England.

Booked a table for 3 people by phone a few days in advance and mentioned we had a dog with us. Whoever took the call said the dog wasn't a problem as they are a dog friendly pub so we reserved a table for 1.45pm. The was no mention we would have to sit somewhere different as we had a dog with us.
We went in through the main entrance and there was no obvious place to let someone know we were there so asked someone who had just taken out some food to people and we were told she can't help she just works in the Kitchen. We then wondered into the restaurant where what appeared to be the booking register was and spoke to a young lady there who couldn't be less bothered to help and we were left just waiting. We waited until someone else appeared and said we had booked a table, but she didnt ask our name and told us to just wait near the bar and she would come and get us. Few mins went by and she came over and although we had seen three tables with a reserved sign on them we were ushered into the bar area and the women just pointed at a long table with wooden stools on one side and a window box bench much higher than the table the other side and were told quite bluntly to sit there because we have a dog.
There was no reserved sign on this table and it had been set for a large group of 6 or 7!! we wondered if this table was meant for us. We didn't understand why when we had reserved a table we were just told to sit here when clearly other tables in the pub section had also been reserved as there were reserved signs on them. We sat down and were very uncomfortable, could not get anyone else's attention to ask to be moved and after 5 mins being ignored we got up and left.
Whoever is running this place needs to train the staff better, manners and some customer skills would have been nice. Over the years we have eaten in lots of pubs in Faversham and this was most certainly the most unfriendly and unwelcoming place we have set foot in.
Glad we left as we rediscovered another pub in Oare that was 100% better, really friendly and offered fantastic service.

I arrived at 12 exactly on a Friday and asked for bar food, they couldn’t accommodate, as the chef was toooooo busy! It’s advertised as food from 12-3 , I suggest anyone who expects a normal kitchen to operate with walk- ins, rings ahead or goes elsewhere - it’s a shame nice looking pub on the quay and staff were nice enough
>@ Shepherd Neame, this is home ground , and one of your top pubs! …… what’s going on ?

At first we thought the pub was closed as from the outside there were no lights showing but when we tried the door it opened to what seemed a busy bar area. Unfortunately it was another shepherd Neame pub which meant the usual beers and lagers on tap ie. Bear Island, Whitstable Bay, no lovely locally brewed beers from Gadds or Goodies brewery. The staff were lovely and friendly. The interior has been redone to the modern taste of every revamped pub, grey although it has a very cosy feel with the fireplace and fresh flowers. We only wanted a light lunch so looked at the menu, there is a restaurant area which was empty if you wanted a more formal setting. The menu itself was very underwhelming, sausage and chips, soup of the day etc a retro style pub menu. We chose the scotch egg for £9 and calamari for £9.50 and a side of cheesy chips. The scotch egg was lovely obviously homemade and came with a tiny bit of salad leaves no sauce, dressing or chutney, the calamari was thin, pale and tasteless with no dressing or lemon just mayo. We thought both dishes were very overpriced. We would go back again for a drink but wouldn’t return for the food.

I and three friends came for a celebration Christmas lunch looking forward to delicious food at a favourite pub under new management. On arrival we were told that ‘the kitchen was closed’ and no lunches were being served. I was told ‘I would have been contacted’ but in spite of leaving my mobile number no explanation or apology was offered. Needless to say, none of us (all local) will be visiting any time soon.

Beautifully cooked beef and veg, the wife had nut roast which was also excellent. Always a relaxed atmosphere, always well kept beers and excellent service. A great pub in an excellent position if you are having a creek walk. We can have been coming here for years, please don’t miss this gem, it’s a diamond.

Stopped by with friends for lunch while exploring the town. Very welcoming staff and good food. We had various sandwiches and chilli nachos between us and all the dishes were well presented and tasty. Being so close to the Shepherd Neame Brewery I had to accompany lunch with a local beer!

We went to The Anchor on a very busy Friday evening for dinner.
The food was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the Hake, the Game Terrine, the Poached Pear and Creme Brûlée. Despite how busy and crowded it was, the service was perfect with courses served at just the right time (not too rushed but not too slow either). All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. We would highly recommend it.

It is not possible to write s negative comment about the quslity of food - it was lovely and everyone enjoyed what they ate. They were also great with gluten free options.
However, the service wasn't so great. It was 1 hour 45 between ordering and mains arriving. There was sn admission half way through that the chef had burned one of our mains, however, no apology, which was disappointing.
On top of this, after our mains, our plates were left on the table and we were left with no offer of dessert or coffee.
Whilst we appreciated the small gesture of a discount, it unfortunately goes no way to make up for the lack of service and care pertaining to the delay of our meal.

Its such a shame you felt the need to write this negative review Julia even after emailing us. After all the other times you have been to us as you stated " Had a such lovely service" in your email. Even looking after you on your wedding anniversary. Our Staff are human and we do not always get it right 100%.
You received a minimum of a £28 discount which is not a small gesture for a very young business. You were apologised to throughout your meal also, and were kept updated on the arrival of your food.
And to add it was the staff that made sure there was a Gluten Free and Nut Free Menu ready and waiting on your table to go the extra mile.

We enjoyed a very pleasant evening in the Anchor. Tables in the dining room are nicely spaced allowing some privacy and a nice atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt without being intrusive. We were also welcomed to stay on in the dining room to enjoy a few drinks after dinner which was ideal.
We were a bit disappointed that some of the menu items were already sold out even though we were quite early to dinner, so hopefully there will be some learnings from this and the venue can adjust stock ordering levels. Overall, a very good visit; we hope to return and would recommend to others.

First time here and the food was amazing. My wife had the seafood linguine and said it was one of the best pasta dishes she's ever had. The service was outstanding, making us feel welcomed and were very attentive. It's definitely one of the best places to eat in Faversham for us so far.

A really lovely place with a warm welcome and an open fire. Food quality was beautiful and nice to see such a variety on the menu.
Its a little tricky ordering with food allergies, i was asked to choose 3 times for my main course as i'm gluten free, which did detract a little. Additionally, only 1 dessert without gluten. A little choice would have been hugely appreciated. Otherwise, a really lovely meal.

Beautiful and cosy pub with all it’s natural history. The new owners have done a fabulous job at keeping it as a pub with a large bar area but also serving honest, very good food in an inviting dining room. Patrick’s food is legendary … can’t wait to go back!
