Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Why can’t all restaurants be more like Read’s? Food, service and ambience first class! From opening the front door we were made to feel welcome, and the staff were all attentive and charming. The setting, in a Georgian Manor House, is beautiful: tastefully furnished in...a traditionally understated English way. We ate in a dining room with three other tables - so good to find linen tablecloths and napkins, a range of cutlery, attention to detail. The lunch menu was full of tempting choices and the wine list carefully chosen, both excellent value. The food is delicious: full of flavour, with well-sourced ingredients which are cooked and presented with great skill and care. No weird combinations, fussy extras or swirls but just fine, tasty food. It is hard to single out any one dish, but the pork croquette with black pudding, the chicken confit terrine, the skate with capers, the ragout of lamb and the hot raspberry soufflé stand out in the memory. It was such a relaxing experience to eat well, feel looked after and at ease in the surroundings: no ugly attempts at trendy decor, no background music and a team which is superbly professional in every respect. A wonderful experience - we will come again!More

We have been enjoying special meals at Reads since moving to Faversham in 1982 - originally located at Painters Forstal, Reads moved to Macknade Manor which is less than 5 minutes walk from our home. We were delighted to see they had their famous prawn...cocktail from 1977 recipe so we all had this as the starter. Two of us had the local lamb, one duck and the other pork, served with vegetables from the garden - all delicious. Finally apple crumble and ice cream served with a Kentish cider liqueur, ginger bread and two raspberry souffles. Our friends had driven down from Cambridge and declared it to be one of the best lunches they had ever had anywhere - we agreed.More

First class dining experience , we decided to have the A la carte menu, which was excellent, the only thing that was missing were some vegetarian options. The welcome we received was excellent, the dining room was a nice size and not crowded with tables,...the waiting staff were very friendly, and the food timings were perfect, a small pause between courses, but not to long. A perfect birthday present.More

Another lovely meal. We always go for the taster menu with matched wines. The usual excellent friendly service, fabulous food and a wonderful festive atmosphere. We immediately booked again for the new year!

Truly special dining experiences outside major cities can be hard to find but this absolutely fitted the bill for a memorable anniversary meal. The arrangement of four tables in a tastefully decorated room, without any music, helped a quiet and relaxed atmosphere where you could...focus on the choices offered and savour the food brought to you. The hot raspberry souffle was a big hit in the room! This is a place where they really look after you.More

We called ahead to tell Read's about my dairy allergy and they were absolutely superb, catering for me in a sensitive, and discreet way. When they brought the canapes to the terrace, I had a gorgeous cucumber cup (vs my friends' cheese bites); the pea...and mint soup was divine and they continued to make subtle differences throughout the meal without mention. I normally find eating out slightly challenging or embarrassing as my allergy (which sends me into anaphylactic shock) tends to take centre-stage, but Read's handled it perfectly . I had a fantastic meal and evening. We have already booked to go back in October and I cannot thank or recommend them highly enough.More

Reads has been our favourite go to for celebrations for years, in fact decades. Never fails to impress. Impeccably cooked (in season) food, impeccably presented and served in an impeccable location. There are a couple of very high national profile, Michelin starred, restaurants in the...Canterbury area. Forget those, this is the place for fine dining.More

Thank you so much to Auntie Angela and Uncle Christopher for taking us to Reads restaurant last night, in celebration of Tracy's 60th birthday! The food was divine, and the raspberry soufflé was perfect in every way, and the cheese and smoked haddock souffle was...blooming marvellous! Yes, I doubled up on the souffle. A testament to great cooking has to be "souffle" and shows me the chef certainly has skills! I would also like to thank David Pitchford and his lovely wife, Rhona, the owners of Reads also, Bradley the Maitre D you made us all feel very welcome, Stefan the Sommelier a charming man who's knowledge of wines were unsurpassed and recommended the perfect match with the said "souffle" and not forgetting Danielle our lovely server so attentive with a beautiful smile! Forgive me, but I didn't get the name of the young man who greeted us on arrival. Thank you. First impressions countMore

We enjoyed an excellent meal on our wedding anniversary and stayed over in one of the lovely rooms. We were made feel very welcome and it was great to have the bar open again for pre-dinner drinks, albeit in a different (better) place. The food...was excellent as was the service. Breakfast was excellent too! It is comfortably worth a Michelin Star, in our opinion.More

Smart or smart casual in my experience. Some people are there for a special occasion and are very smartly dressed and others are more for a relaxed meal and maybe smart jeans and shirt. Never seen t-shirts and shorts!

No Sunday lunch option and I'm afraid most definitely not a restaurant to visit with a 2 month old baby.
