Not happy that I was charged an extra £2 for a bit of gravy on top of the in my view, expensive £18 for the pie mash and veg I ordered. I told the barman I thought it was not right, and after all it was just a spoon of bistro granules and hot water! I thought this was mean and won't be going back.

what a shambles and total disappointment. my family and i go out regular on a sunday [usually double figures with us all this time only 9 ppx] we got there 10mins before booking, table not ready [not really an issue if that was the only issue] we waited whilst tables were moved so we could all sit-that was all they did no laying of table- when food eventually came my sister had to go to other area taking cutlery off of tables as none were given to us. eventually we had our drinks ordered taken however, they took ages to arrive we still hadnt got them by the time the others had turned up. during this point we heard another customer go up to the bar to cancel their order as it "was taking too long" we got our drinks but never got the water we asked for. after an age our food order was taken. starters - we never got and mains. our mains were eventually brought out [we been in there over an hour by this time] and we said we havent had our starter -waitress asked if we wanted her to go and get them...."dont think so now the mains are coming out" food looked dreadful. the roasts-veg barely warm, yorkshire pudding flat as a pancake and tough looking, roast pots hardly cooked, i had ordered a veggie roast and upon seeing the meat ones i canx my order. my son ordered pasta but his garlic bread never arrived. one person ordered veggie burger but with and egg-this wasnt there when we told the waitress his egg is on his order she said "its going from bad to worse" too darn right it is!!!. they did bring out an egg when he was halfway through. my hubby had meat burger in very dry roll -no relish just half cucumber. we weren't offered any sauces, no mustard, tom sauce ect. my father who has dementia loves his food and its the first time ive never seen him clear his plate, infarct he left quite a bit. yes this was mothers day and they were busy but we had booked [for 15.00 ]and booked well in advance, we were told someone had over booked and there wasnt enough staff on, sorry not good enough. yes we got a bit of money off of the bill-but not enough, whilst trying to sort the bill out the bar staff were getting so flustered and adding up what we owed wrong, we just wanted to get out of there and i needed to get home to get something to eat as I was starving, not having eaten anything more than a banana that day. as mentioned at the start we go out on a sunday a lot around dover/folkestone/hythe/dymchurch and this is by far the worse place -in all the places we have gone we have not had to complain about our meal. oh and the toilets were awful what a mess. thank you kings head for a very unenjoyable mothers day

Where to start, a truly awful experience from start to finish. The place seems to be run by a mix of English and Thai owners, and I witnessed 2 or 3 arguments between them in front of customers which made me feel very uneasy There were 2 children under 6 that were running around, daughters of one of the workers, seemed that they were being babysat by a lady behind the bar who was constantly telling them off and trying to keep them under control We booked a table, on line, for 2pm When we turned up, nobody was aware of our booking, but they cobbled together 2 tables for us in the back room, not a great start…. We sat patiently waiting and someone finally came over at 2.25, a lady looking very stressed, and told us she wasn’t supposed to be there as she was only helping out, but she took our order. We ordered 2 roast lamb, roast pork, cheesy pasta a cottage pie and some drinks. At 2.50 we were told there was no lamb left…..so ordered turkey and beef instead Still waiting for our food at 3.10, some 45 minutes after we first ordered, we were told that there was no cottage pie left! Another roast pork it was…anything will do by now! On to the food…..after lots of audible arguing from the kitchen, our food was served. We had to send the first 3 back for a zap in the microwave as they were cold, the meat was fatty, flat Yorkshire puddings, the cheesy pasta was very oily and was left In fairness, there were also Thai dishes on the menu, and with the kitchen staff being Thai, I am sure these would have been better than the English roasts we decided on I had to go get more drinks from the bar as there was no one around to ask for more drinks at our table… Similar when we wanted to pay the bill, no one around to ask, so went to the bar to pay….asked for the bill for table 6…”can you tell me what you had to eat and drink please” wasn’t expecting that and no doubt forgot a drink or 2, but paid and quickly left…. Will not return, this place needs to sort out the differences between the English and the Thai staff, lots of arguments between them, which was very awkward for every customer. Heard many complaints from other customers who were also dissatisfied…and like us, I am sure will not be returning

Huge thanks to the King's Head for my 70th party last night. We had about 40 friends there from 7.00 to 11.00. The pub were happy for us to arrange our own music and they put on 3 different delicious Thai curries. They were totally flexible and the staff on the night were really welcoming and lovely.

Where do I start. Revolting, probably the worst meal and experience we have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Firstly, the overpowering smell of Dog hits you as you enter... Hair, and filth... We were shown to our table by what must have been the chef..filthy clothes and the most rank dirty feet I have ever seen. I didn't want to stay, but was persuaded to by my family. I wish I hadn't... The food was Luke warm, tasteless and looked microwaved to the point of oblivion. So very expensive for drinks, which were the best thing about this place. I take objection to a large dog running around, and then when caught, tied up inside. We had to step over the poor unfortunate thing to get to the garden. I would AVOID this pub at all costs... Smelly, unclean, rank food and a food pub totally ruined from the fine place it was on my last visit to Hythe. Be warned,it is not an experience you will rely sh!

Had to go to hearing clinic in Hythe, popped in after, as I have previously, but £6.40 is a bit much for a pint ! And a massive increase since my last visit , friendly but that's too expensive

Went for dinner last Saturday evening, what a mistake. We initially thought the pub was shut as the door was almost closed with a chair blocking the entrance - turns out this was to stop their dog escaping. The restaurant was completely empty - we should have taken this as a red flag. We sat down and ordered our drinks and food (1 x pad thai and 1 x burgers and chips). The music then started blaring out of the speakers. It was turned down when we asked, but we were also told to move to a different table away from the speakers. A short while later a couple and their grandchild joined us in the restaurant and we got chatting. Our food arrived and it was only what I can describe as bland. The burger looked extremely cheap, as did the bun it was in and the chips not crispy. As for the coleslaw, I have never seen such a sloppy mess. Not only did the whole meal look unappealing, but it tasted unappetising. The pad thai wasn't too bad, but I left half of it and wouldn't bother again. When the little girls (about 3 years old) was asked if she was enjoying her dinner, she said it was ''not up to scratch and disgusting' - out of the mouth of babes, eh!! She was correct though and we will never return, nor will her grandparents. If you can't cook a decent burger & chips and scampi & chips you really shouldn't be in business. Really wish we had got a sandwich from the local Waitrose instead.

Walked in for a drink, only a few people dining, weird atmosphere. Staff were more worried about playing with their dog then talking to customers. Bar maid not overly friendly. Lady that I think may have been owner just stood there watching the bar maid, made it feel very awkward. The place was a bit shabby. I wouldn't return for a drink let alone eat there !!

Visited with the idea of booking sunday roast. Ordered a drink with an unfriendly lady at the bar and enquired about dinner. After drinking our drinks sensing a lack of friendliness we decided not to book and return for dinner. Went somewhere else locally instead, perhaps the roast would have been nice but the unfriendly welcome meant we went elsewhere.

Avoid disappointment and go elsewhere until you see consistent good reviews on here. We used to come here last year until it's opening times became inconsistent. I think it has been taken over recently. We thought we'd give it a go on a Wednesday as the kitchen is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The food was poor quality and the service was atrocious. The waitress could be heard having coughing fits and coughed all over our table and food as she was bringing it out. A gent from the kitchen could be heard telling customers that he was 2 staff down and didn't have certain food items because the kitchen isn't open Monday or Tuesday so he cooks it on a Wednesday fresh........ .......it was 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I wonder what time he must start? Don't ignore forever, just wait til they get their act together.

Went today for a treat, what a disappointment. Sat at a table and waited so long, went to the bar for a drink . Waitress sitting on the floor, playing with the dog. Bar full of dirty glasses, but stupidly still sat down. Finally took our order for food and brought cutlery. Handles wrapped in serviette, but the tops uncovered and touching the table After waiting another half hour, went to bar to pay for drinks we'd finished. Gave us £10.20 all in change, from £20 note! clearly done deliberately. Must have left them without any change for other customers. Used ladies in the meantime, the hand dryer broken and a very dirty, wet towel beneath it. Used toilet paper to dry my hands. Left without food and went elsewhere and needless to say won't be returning, ever!

After having had a really good Sunday Lunch a few weeks ago we decided to try the Thai food offered on the menu. We had three different starters and three different main dishes and they were all freshly made and absolutely spot on, the portions very very generous and the bottle of wine very good and fairly priced. Katy looked after us very well and was quite knowledgeable about gluten free diet and nothing was too much trouble for her, we will most definitely be visiting again soon and would recommend anyone wanting a cosy pub with a good atmosphere and good food to support this recently reopened business, especially in the current situation many high street businesses are facing. Let’s keep local small businesses in business!
