Visited whilst on holiday with my husband and the food was lovely. I got the chicken chow mein and my husband got the special Foo young. A lovely restaurant, no complaints whatsoever.
Absolutely awful, some portions came out cold. The staff were rude, we had to ask for more drinks multiple times. Added a service charge on the bill at the end that when I asked if optional was told no. Then saw on the way out...on their menus that it's a discretionary service charge so I didn't actually have to pay it. Almost £10 just for the service charge as our bill for 2 adults and a child and 3 drinks was over £80. Will not be returning. TY8 is so much more worth it, better food and friendly service.More
£10,90 a head for 4 dishes well what a waste of money no joke 4 forkfulls of chicken chowmein and it was gone ribs nice but no meat rice was the smallest portion possible one dish that was prawn orientated had 3 prawns and to...add insult to injury they add 10% to the bill so had to go into weatherspoons and have burger and drink for just over a fiver so keep your hard earned cash and avoid cafe de chine if you want a hearty mealMore
We were a party of 5 who visited Cafe de China to celebrate sons birthday. 3 meat eaters 2 vegetarians. The vegetable “chicken” satay is not vegi protein it has the taste and consistency of balls of bland mash potato. The spicy bean curd starter...bland and tasteless. The main course tofu dishes bland tasteless and undercooked in my opinion. The chef needs to taste his food! There was one dish in particular the looked like tripe in jelly. It was so undercooked inedible. We should have complained earlier but I didn’t want to spoil my sons birthday. We barely ate a thing for just under £25 a head. No offer of discount due to inedible dishes. Vegetarians left hungry. This all you can eat set up clearly hopes you won’t eat much on a visit because it’s so poor but ones things for sure you’ll only ever go once!More
Brilliant service from start to finish. Food very tasty and hot. Reasonably priced. Will most certainly return again...
I never make a reservation, always a warm welcome, they still wear masks, feels like you’ve been out to a restaurant, the bill is not a shock, they ask us where would I like to sit, good choice of food and plenty of it, nice and hot,...cooked to order.October 16More
We haven't visited for nearly 2 years (pandemic) during that time they have had a refurbishment. It has made it much brighter and with wall lights added. The quality of the food has NOT changed, it is superb and they have added new items. The...service 1st call and very friendly.More
We received the best welcome you could wish for. The staff/service was amazing, the food was amazing, We will definitely be returning here again very soon. Absolutely loved it.
Cafe De China serves outstanding food with unique taste, along with very efficient and relaxing service , the lovely staff are incredibly polite and hard working , and make us feel completely relaxed and at home. The wide menu of dishes are prepared and presented...to absolute perfection, and the ambience of the restaurant is spacious, immaculately clean, well maintained and comfortable. People drive a LONG way to enjoy what this amazing restaurant can deliver, and you come away looking forward to your next visit.More
Wow what can I say , after reading previous reviews I was a bit apprehensive of visiting tonight but I was blown away the food was fantastic and the service was second to none .We where seated immediately and served by a lovely gentleman who...was more than happy to assist us in any need we had atmosphere was great and busy for a usual Saturday night but this didn't hinder service or time waiting for food. Great experience all round so thank you we will return .More
Went to the Cafe de China tonight for a birthday meal have been before and have never had a bad experience. After reading some of the recent reviews on here was questioning my choice! Arrived at 17.30 when it open and was warmly welcomed within...no time the whole place was packed the atmosphere was brilliant we were served very quickly and over the next two and a half hours we spent there were well looked after by all the staff. The food was fantastic and considering how busy they were hardly had to wait for service at any time. Would definitely recommend and will be returning again soon. Thanks cafe de China for a great night.More
The strangest dining experience ever We arrived for our pre-booked table at 7.30. We stood by the entrance for 15 minutes, staff totally ignoring us and walking so slow like snails, completely unfazed. In the end we just stared at all 4 of them surrounding...the bar area but they completely ignored us. A waitress was serving a table near the entrance and shouted over them “TABLE FOR 2” and pointed to a empty table. Me and my boyfriend looked at each other very shocked! I guessed she was talking to us?! They didn’t even know if we had a booking or not, but we sat down like we was told. The atmosphere was very strange in the restaurant. No one was talking at there tables and everyone was just looking around/ staring at the staff with no food in front of them. I said to my boyfriend something is wrong here. After a further 15/20 minutes I stopped a waiter in his tracks if we could please order some drinks, by then we new what food we wanted too so ordered food as well. Some customers looked like their necks were going to break with the way they were twisted round just staring at staff waiting for some attention. A lady at a large table shouted “can we get some drinks! We’ve been here over a hour!” The table next to us had problems with there drinks order (no alcohol in the drinks!) and then after getting food, found a large leaf in there dinner!! We still had no drinks still so we had to flag down someone else, who made them straight away. There was absolutely no system to the service and staff kept disappearing. We waited over a hour and a half for our food, in the end we rung mama jinnys and booked a table whilst still sat in the restaurant! 4 tables had walked out by this point. We just got up and left. What a joke of a evening, it was comical! so glad we got a table somewhere else otherwise our valentines night out would of been ruined. I’m unsure of what happened but if there was a problem why did they keep letting more people in and taking delivery orders? About 10 more tables were accepted after us, and most hadn’t got drinks by time we left. Why accept more people if there’s a problem? Why not let customers know the wait is going to be long. In my opinion they should of shut the restaurant and cut there losses. The most oddest experience ever, and as a 15+ year customer of cafe de China, I will not be returning!More
Valentines evening. Totally out of your depths. You should have stopped the take aways so the people in the restaurant actually had some food delivered some people are waiting over an hour to even have their orders placed for drinks and food you should not...be charging £25 per person and not delivering food drinks and service all at the same time you will have lost a lot of custom from tonight a total lack of management.More
Went Christmas Eve, was not really busy, table booked for 6.30. Ordered food, some food was missing from order, then waited 40 minutes to be asked if we wanted more drink or food, but would if waited longer if we didn’t call them over. Only...3 people plus manger on shop floor. Another table also complained about the service while we were there this was a table of 2 people, we were a table of 4. Looked like they were more interested in serving the bigger parties . Not been here for over 5 years as the food went down hill….such a shame on the service we hadMore
