Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I would like to make a plea to any potential new people taking the pub on in the future - please offer reasonably priced good food, welcome locals in even if they only want a quiet drink, welcome families with well behaved children and be...friendly ! Good luck !More

Wow what a lovely place. We meet our friends here and it didn’t disappoint. The greeting was welcoming and the service was outstanding from start to finish all staff were attentive and friendly. The roast dinner was amazing we had lamb, beef and chicken. The...starters were just enough and the puddings were homemade and lovely.More

We came here for the first time ever to try a well rated Sunday lunch, we were not disappointed!! From arrival we were welcomed by lovely staff who looker after our table very well, bottles of a nice local cider to drink, we all opted...for a 3 course meal, very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food! Food presentation was lovely with different designs of flatware presenting fresh, quality ingredients prepared the right way. The roast was bursting from the plate and all very well cooked and flavoured. Everything you could want on a Sunday lunch was provided and the pork belly was very nice. For dessert I had homemade ice cream which was amazing, the black forest flavour was spot on. Clearly a kitchen with passion for their work Will eat here again. Thank you!More

After a long walk in glorious October sunshine we found the pub to be shut at 1pm on a lovely Saturday lunchtime.. hungry and thirsty we phoned the venue and were told that they were closed for staff training and will open at 6.00pm.. ..really...on a Saturday!? Fair enough to shut your pub when you wish but at least flag it on website (we had been looking at the website several times in advance for menus etc) for walkers, hungry and thirsty to plan around. We walked on to another pub about 2 miles away which was fortunately open, busy and very good.More

Lovely place very cosy and warm excellent welcome and service. Here for Sunday lunch and what a choice we'll presented and lovely well worth the price paid. The wine and cocktail list was large enough, along with a couple of draught beers on the bar....A couple of large open fires ( will add to the welcoming feeling in winter) the bare bricks and beams do a good job on their own. Will certainly be back many thanks to everyone.More

Staying in Pluckley for one night only, was met at the door by a woman who puffed her chest out to stop access as we didnt have a reservation. The garden was empty. We could have easily spent a few hundred quid as there were...a lot of us.More

A fantastic restaurant, in beautiful surroundings with the most scrumptious food. The homemade beef & ale pie was absolutely delicious and the cocktails went down far too easily! We will definitely be visiting again soon!

Excellent for family celebrations, romantic meals, and especially Sunday roasts. We have been here many times over the past few years and it never fails to disappoint. Excellent quality drinks, first class service and some of the best food we have had in Kent all...using local ingredients. I would urge anyone that hasn’t been to try it, i have been to numerous pubs and restaurants that charge the same price that aren’t even anywhere near the quality of this establishment. Extremely friendly and attentive service as well with a wide choice of excellent drinks. On top of this it is a beautiful, historic venue. Our favourite restaurant in Kent by same margin.More

If you haven't visited The Black Horse in Pluckley yet, you simply haven't experienced the ultimate in friendly, first- class service and exquisitely mouthwatering meals! Whether your preference is the breathtaking outdoor garden or cosy, romantic indoor dining experience - their stunningly presented, sensationally tasty...dishes, will in all honesty, blow you away!!! The owner, Gemma, is delightful, friendly and it's refreshingly obvious that she puts her heart and soul into her work. My husband and I visited again yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the 9oz 40 Day Age Sirloin Steak with King Oyster Mushroom - Confit Tomato - Dauphinoise & Garlic Butter. For dessert, the Dark Chocolate Delice with Black Cherry Compote & Cream, is a chocaholic's dream! They are open Thursday through to Sunday for lunch or dinner. They are also dog-friendly, which is wonderful. I am determined to get this hidden gem's name out there, because they truly deserve a position among one of the top restaurants in Kent. If you haven't been here yet...you are missing out!More

Tried the place on way through Kent with friends. Nice old building that must have been a pub once. Friendly and welcoming staff but place lacks atmosphere and needs some tlc. Worst problem though was the terrible, bland food and the prices. Starters were tiny...and the fried chicken overcooked. Not what you’d expect for £10+ starter. Main course lacked any seasoning and mine was the blandest dish I’ve ever tasted. Desserts were likewise tiny, ultra processed and expensive for what they were. Reckon to spend £250-£300 for 4 people if you stop here but I would advise you to drive on and find a proper Kentish pub. Avoid this one at all cost…More

How such an inhospitable, stuck up place could survive within the Pluckley community is a mystery to me… Yes, they did take over a business that attracted a mixed bunch of customers - but to try and turn it into an exclusive place that turns...down the locals desperate for a drink of water, dog walkers, day trippers and families with young well behaved kids - is sad and disappointing beyond words! When we did eat there on a few occasions over the last two years the food was ok, but not brilliant, steak in particular was poor quality compared to the steak house in Ashford town. Value for money poor. The ‘strictly over 12 year old’ booking policy seems discriminatory to me, though my kids are older than that. I would head to other local watering holes that are more friendly and better value for money. We are local and are avoiding it from now on until they become more friendly and hospitable. Be warned!More
