The Woolpack has just been refurbished, and reopened this week. The restaurant has been redone and has a new menu. Previously when we have eaten here we have used the bar area, but this time we used the nice eating area at the back.
I have to say it was all rather lovely. The service was charming and attentive, they are clearly keen to make a good impression. We had the pork belly and the cod as main courses and they were delicious, really beautifully cooked. Almost definitely the nicest meal we have had in the town itself since we moved here 10 years ago. Dessert (tarte tatin) was great too, as was the coffee. We had their own Bacchus wine which was extremely good - but they also have a full list of other wines to suit all budgets too.
We were impressed. A really nice addition to the town, we will come again.

After being dragged off the high street for "the best burgers ever" I can safely say that they were quite simply the best burgers ever!
Obviously we had to go back and try them again but to our shock they had finished (just for the garden opening after lockdown) so we went for the lamb and the curry....forget the burgers (although the one on the menu is a show stopper) this is a foodie paradise.
Both dishes had been well thought out with textures, flavours and faultless execution. Enough attention to detail in the platting so not to be to pretentious but a reminder to use all your senses.
What was noticeable was how enjoyable the work environment was and how all the staff got on, not only with there jobs but with each other ....keep that up!!
The Chef obviously knew some of the diners and came out to personally check on there meals but made a point to engage with every table in a very charming and friendly manner (food must be good if the Chef is that comfortable in the dining room)
The pub style tapas looks very interesting and we can't wait to give that a try on our next visit.

Had a fantastic meal with my friends after an intense game of tennis in Tenterden Park. I was served by the most polite, fantastic member of staff named Nancy, who helped us choose the perfect meal and always had a smile on her face. I had the burger, my friend also had the burger and another friend had the veg curry and all said it was 10/10. Thank you the Woolpack and most importantly thank you Nancy.

We went to The Woolpack on a Tuesday evening for a meal out as a couple as our kitchen is currently being renovated.
A warm and vibrant atmosphere greeted us - not the head turn to see who has entered sort of establishment as some friends had suggested.
We found our way to the dining room and were shown to our table by who we assume was the restaurant manager (nice floral shirt by the way!).
We ordered a drink each and then ordered the Tuesday special which was a sausage cassoulet for £10. Upselling of starters/nibbles was positive but we weren’t interested in this occasion.
Mains came about 10-15 mins after ordering, which worked well for us. Food was delicious, was really flavoursome and we were both enjoying our meals.
There was, however, no check on how our meals were, when we would have asked for a glass of water as the dish was quite spicy. I had to go to the bar to get anyone’s attention.
The previously seen restaurant manager had spontaneously combusted and the barmaid eventually came to see us a mere 30 minutes after we’d finished our meal. We had every intention of staying for dessert (which is the most important meal of the day, the restaurant manager jested) but given the lack of service and no one returning to see what we wanted for dessert despite providing a dessert menu, we decided to call it a night.
We had clocked a service charge of 10% was going to be applied to the bill. Wouldn’t normally grumble but insisted it was removed due to poor service.
We moved to the area 6 months ago, so we will give it another go in due course and hope it was just a one off in terms of service as the food was very good. We hope this is taken as positive criticism and we look forward to returning.

So I booked a room online a Superior Double, at £179 with Breakfast.
The room was very very poor, fans in the room broken, bath had drainage problem, cold tap on sink water flow extremely poor. The room had stains on carpets, the furniture was cheap and poor quality the radiator in bathroom was on permanently, the decor was in grey nothing else on walls very unpleasant room not fit for the price, bed was comfy though but it was pushed up near sloping ceiling so you could easily bang your head if you slept on the left side. When I mentioned all this to the staff they seemed uninterested and not bothered.
Nice garden out the back and staff in bar friendly and helpful. The bar needs a refurb in my opinion carpets would be nice in small area and some comfortable chairs otherwise it’s not bad I guess. I’d give 3 out of 10 for overall stay.
Breakfast was ok scrambled egg with smoked salmon I had, was not offered any toast though

We stayed here for 2 nights I booked it for my mums 70th birthday the food and room was amazing and only ruined on our last night when we entered the pub at 945pm for one drink with family that had driven up from folkstone to see us. They only wanted 1 drink after our food. The lady served us our drinks and once we sat down came over to our table and said it was last orders did we want anything else? We said no thank you. By 10.10 she marched over and very rudely told our 3 family members they had to leave now as they were not guests! We were only half way through the drinks. She was extremely rude and to make matters worst there were still locals in with half pints in hands and full pints on the table! I understand from Thursday it closes at 10 but it clearly states on the website closes at 11pm my mum and I were extremely embarrassed especially after we have raved about our stay here. This one lady has completely ruined our experience! I understand the pressures of covid ect but why serve us then essentially kick us out 15 mins after saying last orders And being directly above the bar still hearing locals drinking an hour later. The lady clearly doesn't have any customer service skills. Very very upset and disappointed

Dear Sarah,
I know we have spoken, but once again I would personally like to apologise that you had a bad experience at The Woolpack. I can assure you that we take great pride in our service and in what we do at The Woolly. Like I explained we did close at 10pm but you should have been given time to enjoy your drinks.
I will be in touch with you directly to discuss this further.
Best wishes

During a 10 day stay locally we booked to have food at this pub.
The staff were very friendly and the bonus was they had a large garden with a play area for our children.
Food on both occasions was very good. There was an average wait for food and when it came it looked lovely. Both adults and children were happy with the main courses and desserts.
Would happily return again if in the area.

We love our Sunday lunches at home and often struggle to find a restaurant that can serve a good roast…. Until we tried the Woolpack today! We had a very tasty roast belly pork, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, cauliflower Bon Bon, buttered green vegetables, red cabbage, an enormous Yorkshire pudding and jug of gravy. We love our food hot and this lunch was lovely and hot, served on warm plates. The service from the bar and waiting staff is so good. They are all friendly, courteous and helpful. Lovely that the manager also came to say Hi and checked all ok. We will definitely return for supper as the menu promises some lovely dishes. Not everything available today but I don’t mind that, proves it is fresh and is not coming out of a deep freezer! Well done Team Wooly, a lovely lunch!

Met friends to celebrate their recent marriage. Checked the website for offers- Throwback Thursday 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25. Arrived at the pub, leaflets advertising the offer on every table, great!
Friendly waiting staff brought us our menus. We went for 3 courses due to the inviting offer.
The food was really nice, we were having a great time. Until the bill arrived. No discount had been applied. I reminded the waiter that it was Throwback Thursday, he said he would go and check.
Waiter returned- "Throwback Thursday is on a different menu, and isn't every week"
We were not offered any alternative menus, the website states it is every Thursday, leaflets everywhere. We left the pub on a bit of a bum note as would have chosen different meal options had this been made clear.

We went to the Woolpack for an impromptu lunch during the week and we were able to get a table. The pub was bright and had a nice atmosphere, there was a log fire in the bar area which was nice and warm. The facilities were also clean. We had two light bites and puddings and it came to £43 which for the amount of food we thought was a bit expensive. The puddings were really nice though. Not sure we would go back as we did find it too expensive.

Poor. We arrived around 12.30 and placed our order in the restaurant. Shortly after we arrived a couple of groups from a wine tour company came in and from then it all went downhill. After waiting more than 40 minutes after our starters were cleared we asked how much longer our mains would be and were told that the wine tours took priority. They then checked with the kitchen and returned to say they had lost our order so they hadn’t even started yet. We paid what we owed and left. Won’t be back. If you do go then I suggest you make sure you avoid anytime they have more high priority guests due.

Great friendly service in this cosy restaurant, our table had a view of the ancient church next door, we had the whitebait as a starter, then the chicken and leak pie for a main, quite simply the most succulent chicken in a melt in the mouth crunchy pastry, my wife had a perfectly cooked salmon with clams in an Asian broth. A wonderful selection of Balfour wines, we drank the sparkling red and the oaked chardonnay. We shared a pineapple carpaccio to end.

It’s very ballsy to take things that people recognise and put a quirky spin on it but the chef at the Woolpack gets away with it.
We had the Kiev (who doesn’t like an old school classic) and the best version of fried chicken this side of Alabama. Pheasant was succulent and moist and with the Alfredo mash (our new favourite way to mash) a delight.
It was great to see this high street gem bursting at the seams on a Saturday night and the floor staff were amazing

We had not been to The Woolpack for several years and were very disappointed. Our friends wanted to go to The White Lion but we said The Woolpack was much better - famous last words! The menu was quite limited and quite a number of items were not available as their suppliers had not delivered today and wasn't answering his/her 'phone! Service was quite slow and the waiter rather casual. Food ordered was okay but not particularly outstanding. The ultimate was when one of our group asked the waiter for bread and was told that as the kitchen was so busy - there were maybe 20 people in the dining room - it could take a long time for the bread to be served! Maybe they had run out of bread too!!

I found the staff to be rude from
The minute we arrived. We were only having drinks and it felt like everything was too much to ask for the entire evening. Last orders were called at 10.30 and we were made to feel uncomfortable from that point onwards (or more uncomfortable than we were previously), new customers arrived after that and were
Served no problem - and not asked to leave as we were. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a hospitality venue, and would certainly have left and gone elsewhere had it have been my special occasion and not that of a friend. The Woolpack has gone downhill and some customer service training wouldn’t go amiss. Shame.
