Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came across this pub by chance, lovely pub and excellent beer garden which we would highly recommend. Its family friendly and very welcoming, we went to a few pubs before this one only to be told children not welcome unless ordering food, this pub was...the total opposite which we were thankful for. Next time in Whitstable we will be back.More

Pleasantly surprised after reading the last review. We found the barman Henry so very very welcoming, informative and knowledgeable. The pub is a cosy and traditional back street pub with immense history. Our experience was top class. So good to find this place.

Although Whitstable is a pleasant town, visiting this out of the way pub is like entering a scene from The Wicker Man. Outsiders are most definitely not welcome here. There is a cosy conspiracy between the unfriendly bar staff and down right offensive customers to...put of strangers setting foot in here. Avoid at all costs.More

The Smack is a modernised but traditional local pub located near to the harbour, this freindly pub offers oval beer from Faversham and hearty traditional pub food and a more snacky menu in summer. Highly recommended.

So on a rainy Sunday afternoon 6 of us stopped here for a pint and a meal. The beach hut garden looked promising, however, that’s as good as it got...as all food came to us in cardboard boxes. On the specials board was a prawn...& lobster salad bap with chips - the amount of lobster was less than a small finger nail and could be picked out so we asked for more and a measly amount was offered again in a cardboard box - all for £13.90!!! 7 fish goujons and 12 chips, I asked for a roll which was brought on a paper plate. A brioche roll with so much margarine I had to scrape it off, killer was I was charged £2:10 for the luxury item. I could go on but you get the jist of my review.... in short, if you don’t mind having what the images on their website don’t show with measly portions and cheap ingredients then this is ok. This is not really a food pub.More

We had a really excellent lunch in the beach hut themed garden. Squid and fish goujons were excellent. Chips first class. Good selection of beers The hosts welcoming and not over-bearing. No hesitation in recommending this.

No Thrills pub, friendly service, bog standard drinks, nice garden. Could be better, but if you're just after a quick drink (or 5) this hits the spot!

This bar is well equipped to for the current Covid guidelines with a generous (and atmospheric) pebbled area to drink and eat in. Staff were very helpful and the drinks were very good!

Off a side street and well worth it being your first point of call in Whitstable. A small , friendly independent public with a super pub menu . Very reasonably priced and served with a helpful friendly smile . The Mac and cheese offerings are...absolutely first class along with a deep and well considered menu and drinks menu . Simply a must visit when in their lovely seaside townMore
