Slightly out of town is this small and immaculate traditional pub. The star turn is the funky garden, beach themed right down to socially distanced beach huts. Staff were very friendly, it felt very safe and the light lunches we ordered were served piping hot, were a good size and tasted great. Good local beers.

Off a side street and well worth it being your first point of call in Whitstable. A small , friendly independent public with a super pub menu . Very reasonably priced and served with a helpful friendly smile . The Mac and cheese offerings are absolutely first class along with a deep and well considered menu and drinks menu . Simply a must visit when in their lovely seaside town

Came across this pub by chance, lovely pub and excellent beer garden which we would highly recommend. Its family friendly and very welcoming, we went to a few pubs before this one only to be told children not welcome unless ordering food, this pub was the total opposite which we were thankful for. Next time in Whitstable we will be back.

So on a rainy Sunday afternoon 6 of us stopped here for a pint and a meal. The beach hut garden looked promising, however, that’s as good as it got...as all food came to us in cardboard boxes. On the specials board was a prawn & lobster salad bap with chips - the amount of lobster was less than a small finger nail and could be picked out so we asked for more and a measly amount was offered again in a cardboard box - all for £13.90!!! 7 fish goujons and 12 chips, I asked for a roll which was brought on a paper plate. A brioche roll with so much margarine I had to scrape it off, killer was I was charged £2:10 for the luxury item. I could go on but you get the jist of my review.... in short, if you don’t mind having what the images on their website don’t show with measly portions and cheap ingredients then this is ok. This is not really a food pub.

Pleasantly surprised after reading the last review. We found the barman Henry so very very welcoming, informative and knowledgeable. The pub is a cosy and traditional back street pub with immense history. Our experience was top class. So good to find this place.

Lovely little, atmospheric back street pub. Great host and a fabulous garden which, apparently, has live music on Sundays. Sadly we'll miss it as we're going home tomorrow. We had the fish finger baguette with cauliflower wings. Really tasty. I'd recommend you visit.

We had a really excellent lunch in the beach hut themed garden. Squid and fish goujons were excellent. Chips first class. Good selection of beers The hosts welcoming and not over-bearing. No hesitation in recommending this.

This little gem of a pub is very welcoming and have the most friendly staff. We came to whitstable for the day and found the smack on a walk about. The beer was excellent and the food was amazing. Will certainly come again.

We found this fabulous pub in a backstreet in Whitstable by spotting the sign on a building in an alleyway off the high street. Great traditional pub. Clean with a great outside area. The menu was great, very reasonable prices. Lots of wine choices though no Chardonnay. The white rioja was lovely. Food was very good. The only reason I've not given 5 stars is the wooden cutlery. Usless for cutting food. I realise this is probably just for outside but it's a shame as everything else was great.

Dropped into this friendly back-street pub for a quick drink on the way to dinner elsewhere. Having seen the menu, we wish we’d booked to eat here. Very pleasant outdoor seating. Next time we’re in Whitstable…!

This is a lovely pub. The landlord & his team are a nice group of people. We had drinks outside in the seaside themed garden which is lovely & can accommodate lots of people. We decided to have lunch there as its such a nice vibe & the food was very nice too. Pub fare but done very well & not expensive. Give it go if you are visiting Whitstable 👍

Although Whitstable is a pleasant town, visiting this out of the way pub is like entering a scene from The Wicker Man. Outsiders are most definitely not welcome here. There is a cosy conspiracy between the unfriendly bar staff and down right offensive customers to put of strangers setting foot in here. Avoid at all costs.

The Smack is a modernised but traditional local pub located near to the harbour, this freindly pub offers oval beer from Faversham and hearty traditional pub food and a more snacky menu in summer. Highly recommended.
