Went in for a sit down meal with my family after a bracing New Year's Day walk along the sea front. Have been there a number of times and have never been disappointed. If you're looking for a poncey ridiculously over priced Jamie Oliver type affair then I'd go somewhere else. Ossies is a genuine traditional and unpretentious "chippy" where you are served great food by friendly and helpful staff. Yes, the prices are slightly higher than the average high street (but by no means exorbitant) yet this is more than compensated for by the beautifully fresh fish and delightfully light and crunchy batter. Portions are also very generous with both my teenage gannet like kids struggling to clear their plates. Whitstable is a lovely town at any time of the year and if you're feeling hungry I can't think of a better place to go.

We have been visiting Whitstable at least 3-4 times a year for the last 5 years. Sometimes for day trips. sometimes we can stay for up to a week but a visit to Whitstable is never complete without a trip to Ossies! The food is fantastic value for money, fresh, big portions and the staff are always ready to greet you with a huge smile. Our last visit was at the end of May Bank Holiday, the queue was HUGE, easily 20+ ahead of us but we still didn't wait for more than 20mins to be served. I always have the Haddock which is beautifully cooked and their saveloys are the proper ones with the real snap not soggy and watery. Best chippie in town!

This was the place recommend by our Airbnb hosts so we queued along with everyone else on a busy Friday early evening. I don’t know if it was because we sat on the beach, with a glass of chilled wine, at the beginning of a much anticipated weekend away, but I can honestly say these were the best fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time! My haddock was freshly cooked and piping hot, with a delicious crispy batter and not a soggy chip to be had. Thoroughly worth the wait!

After standing and waiting patiently for 45 minutes being may i add the 5th person in the queue i was finally served so i placed my order then was told to wait outside which i did, i then wanted to add another item to my order so i went inside to do this and i was greeted with such rudeness that the worker started making up my order to get rid of me he charged me for what i had ordered previously, which is fine then when he was confirming what food was inside i then tried to tell him that i had ordered more than what was inside he started getting very irate and pointing at me rolling his eyes at me and in the end i just left without my full order, that i had paid for i am not one to stand and make a fuss at all so i swallowed losing my money to the rude man, and went to the seafront to feed my children and i went without what disgusting service i was not an awkward customer at all. Maybe if they wasnt taking telephone orders and then making those orders up inbetween serving the queue outside they would be able to serve thier paying customers with a bit more clarity and respect. The worker behind the counter was flustered in a state of a panic, and totally messed up i will definetely not be returing.

Small queue for takeaway. Decided to eat in. Basic order for chips and mushy peas for 4. In the meantime queue for takeaway got very big and that was prioritised rather than those in the eat in area. We were just ignored. 35 mins later no sign of food but assured it was 3 mins away. Another 10 mins later we said if it wasnt ready in the next few minutes we would leave as very hungry. Told leave then. Shocking customer service. Why ignore sit in customers.

Whitstable is all about seafood, so it makes sense that you’ll find excellent fish and chips somewhere here. The four of us decided on Ossies and it was quality! We shared a large serving of chips between us and then had a fillet of haddock each. In reality, we probably could’ve shared 2 fillets of haddock between us. But god, it was delicious! The thick cut chips were perfect! The right amount of salt and vinegar added, not too greasy, not too hot. The batter on the fish was a bit heavy, but not too oily or greasy either. It’s a hard balance to keep it clean and not get fish and chips too greasy, but at Ossies they get it right!

We were looking forward to fresh fish and chips on our day out by the sea so popped in whilst passing. We were promptly seated and our order was taken. After about 25 mins of waiting we asked if it was going to be much longer as we had a train to catch. The waitress then arrived with them immediately as they had been sitting behind the counter! (Not sure how long they had been there). The fish was very fresh and we both enjoyed our meal although we had to eat fast as not to miss our train. The only other down side of our experience was the fact that they charged £5 for 2 cans of coke which must be around 25p wholesale. This we thought was an extortionate mark up and I note others have also mentioned this in previous reviews.

Fish and chips is an essential part of a holiday by the sea and wow, what fantastic fish and chips from Ossies ! There was a short queue and we were told that there would be a few minutes wait and then everyone in the queue was given a free cone of chips to munch while we were waiting. I’ve never known this to happen any where and a nice touch. Our haddock and chips was huge, hot, super fresh and delicious. The best fish and chips we have ever had in Whitstable !

You want excellent fish and chips? Well this place delivers just that. We had haddock and chips twice (£11.95) and two cans (£2.50). The fish was hot and a large helping, it had been cooked in vegetable oil (not dripping) and the chips were delicious - not greasy at all. Good service as well and the place looked spotless. Perfect.

Chips were hard and under cooked, cans of coke were charged at £2.50 each and chips were £3.10 per portion. Bad food, Poor service and really bad pricing. CASH ONLY (TAX FIDDLE)

We now travel from the Ashford area on a monthly basis to Whitstable for Ossie's fish and chips. There is always a queue as everyone knows they will expect fabulous food. Chips crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Golden chunks of heaven! Even better if you scoot to the beach and sit on a blanket watching the sun set from a blanket on the beach. There is a good veggie burger. Always love the welcome, consistently excellent service and delicious food.

Disappointed that the food was tasteless. The fish batter was crispy but other meals like my sons chicken burger was extremely poor for £ 7.80. a cheap flat oval shaped burger looked like it had been bought from the bargain shelf in b and m. The restaurant host was doing her best but some of the staff looked dirty and untidy including the lady waiting on us. The chap brining chips and crockery dressed in a dirty tracksuit made me wish I hadn't ordered.

The seating area was clean, and none of the tables were cluttered. The young man who took our order was polite and friendly. We ordered cod and chips and tea for 2, and he told us how long we would have to wait, as the fish was cooked fresh. The tea came in nice big mugs, and was served while we waited for the food. The cod and chips, with tartare sauce, was beautifully cooked, and totally delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if visiting Whitstable.

Our meal looked ok but the fish was very dry as if it had been in the heater for too long. The chips were a bit cold. Overall very under par, paticularly as the price was a bit on the high side at £9 for Cod and chips. Not a patch on Pams Kitchen in Hastings.

Fancied a traditional chippy rather than the famous Whitstable oysters and that is definitely what you get with Ossies. Went for jumbo battered sausage rather than the traditional fish. It was all very tasty and not at all greasy. It was payment by cash only which seemed a bit strange in the current circumstances but otherwise it was sensible queuing arrangements for the times and they were only serving one customer at a time. Hope to return when can sit in the restaurant.
