Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited for lunch today for the first time and were very impressed. The home cooked food was excellent (we both had the steak and kidney pie) and although we don't usually have desert we decided to as these were also home made, we weren't disappointed....The family who run the pub are all very friendly and we will definitely go back.More

The "Stilton Cheese" pub is but a 3 minutes walk from our holiday accommodation, therefore so easy to get there. A good start. But there is something magical about the "Stilton Cheese" .. it is a lovely, traditional, family-run pub, serving delicious freshly-prepared food .....that sets it above so many pubs! Our regret was that we could not visit as often as we did whilst on holiday .. we will do so more often next time we are in the area.More

Came first time last year and loved it...this time came back with family. We had our dogs with us again - it’s really dog friendly here and there were quite a few in. All had a treat from the owner - nice touch - thanks....Staff were so lovely and super efficient, really nice atmosphere in the pub and the food was amazing. Definitely a pub to return to.More

A short distance from where we are staying along lovely country lanes we arrived at The Stilton Cheese a family run pub which turned out to have excellent food. We had the soups for starters followed by bangers and mash cooked to perfection by the...grandfather of the family and a healthy quiche with salad washed down by a cold French Chablis. The staff are incredibly friendly, efficient and professional and the price was quite reasonable. A nice touch was all the different Stilton jars on the windowsills.More

(Incorectly posted this for erong pub initially) Visited this pub whilst staying locally at Eye Kettleby Lakes. The pub has a fantastic country pub feel and has been run by the same people for the last 29 years. Kept as a traditional pub, serves excellent...food and well kept local ales. Had a starter of Choix Buns filled with stilton cheese served with onion chutney followed by mozerella filled pork fillet served with buttered potatos and vegetable. The beer I sampled was a 5.1% Ten Fifty, a real ale from local Oakham brewery. Wished this was closer but as regular visitors to EKL we will definitely be back to this fantastic pub. Great ambience, lovely food and beers and very friendly owners. Also dog friendly.More

I have visited the Stilton Cheese several times over a number of years. Yesterday I was with friends on a cycle ride. I had pre-booked a table for 1:30 but we arrived 15 minutes late - our fault entirely. The welcome we received was genuinely...friendly and we were ever so gently reminded that we needed to order before 2:00pm. I only mention this because of the way the reminder was given was an absolutely perfect example of customer service. Our drinks were served promptly, three were soft drinks but I thoroughly enjoyed a pint of Marston’s Pedigree. This is one of my favourite beers and I can honestly say that I’ve never had better. The beer was in perfect condition and temperature. It was a credit to whoever manages the cellar. We picked our food from the quite extensive menu (see the website). It was served without any significant delay. Everything was piping hot, except the salad! The portions were more than ample and were served with a bowl of chips and vegetables to share. It’s difficult to pinpoint what makes this pub so good; Is it the food, the drinks, the atmosphere? The answer, I believe, is the people running the place. They deliver in every aspect. The Stilton Cheese is an excellent example of a perfect English country pub. Too many of these are disappearing from the landscape and they deserve our custom to keep them going. I have no hesitation in recommending it.More

Absolutely brilliant. Food was lovely. Plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. A proper "Country Pub". Beers kept well too. Love the fact that it is a Family run pub. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend and will definitely go back again soon.

Very ancient Country pub…Large seating /eating area near the bar Quiz night so busy and comfortably noisy! They were shunted off to another separate dining room. Welcoming log fire and the 4 of us sat very cozily near. Menu was extensive but we were impressed...by Chalk board full of Specials ….Lots of choice ! I had sliced Duck breast with Cherry jus… tasty. Efficient table service, food delivered hot with side dishes of vegetables. Generous portions. Desserts brought forth were of high standard. Delicious French Almond tart, Hotcross bun & butter pudding, Profiteroles ….. again large portions. Value for money indeed. Thank you to the kind bar assistant that kept safe my handbag until I was able to return & retrieve. Thoroughly recommend you visit.More

We took friends here for dinner last night. The atmosphere was, as always, welcoming, with a lovely fire. The food was all delicious and the service unobtrusive and friendly. Three of us had the duckling, which is a favourite of mine here. Nobody ever leaves...here hungry. Lots of different veg, always appear. We all had delicious desserts too. We were promising our friends a quiet, slot-machine-free meal. Unfortunately, this was not the case. There was noisy man already esconced at the bar when we arrived. He had a loud, penetrating voice and was still at it when we left. The owner can’t really do much about this and I would still give the Stilton Cheese my five star rating but next time, I will ask to be seated well away from the bar area. We have always been able to hear ourselves talk until last night.More

Visited here during part 2 of our Leicestershire Round walk. Roast beef with all the trimmings -simply beautiful. Everything was perfect; the welcome, the beer and the food (veg was cooked beautifully, best I’ve tasted for a long time). I grudgingly shared my roast beef...with my dog (who also received lots of attention and fuss). The whole family were warm and welcoming and I can’t recommend this gem of a pub highly enough. Just wish I lived in Somerby.More

We like this Pub and visit it after a long walk in the surrounding countryside. The place was busy on the Sunday we last went in February. The gentleman who served us drinks was distracted by everything else going on in the bar and took...10mins to provide our 2 sodas. One was flat and at nearly £6 these were expensive. I ordered the tortellini au gratin, where I expected the pasta to be in a cheese sauce, it wasn't, it was in a tomato sauce with a shaving on cheese on top, which was disappointing. I'll choose better when we next visit as the food here is normally very good.More

Had the mushroom starter, lasagna for main and profiteroles for dessert. The entire meal felt like it was pre-cooked and reheated for service. The breaded mushrooms were rock-solid on the outside and watery on the inside. The lasagna was cold on the inside and luke...warm on the outside. (It tasted more like a cottage pie than a lasagna) I accept that a lot of pubs and restaurants are under-staffed these days but for the prices they're charging, you expect better quality. Very disappointed. Will not be returning.More

Stopped here on a circular walk from Burrough Hill fort. On entering lovely warm welcome from the lovely owner. We have a dog and the bar is dog friendly - so headed there. The pub has a lovely charm with dark oak beams and horse...brasses everywhere. We were eating later so just had some sandwiches and a bowl of chips, food was top rate and delicious. We will definitely be back to sample a main. Highly recommend!More

This is an unmodernised pub thank goodness with a rural village feel to it and , I’m told , very good beers. There are flowers in abundance by the door and an outside patio area, I had the best sausage, mash & gravy I have...had for ages and my cousin and his wife had a meat lasagne and a vegetarian lasagne with generous bowl of vegetables and crisp chips. All enjoyable. The dessert menu looked good but we were too full to try something but come winter appetite likely to increase. The hostess told me her father makes the sausages, hence their excellence!More
