We meet some friends from Lincoln at the Six Bells about every six months and have never been disappointed, and yesterday was no exception. Although they very busy, the staff were all very efficient and friendly. The food was very good, the menu being quite...game based. I had the terrine to start and then the pheasant, both of which were excellent, and finished with the white chocolate parfait, which I have had on every visit. The only downside were the pickled mushrooms which were delivered when we arrived: I had one and it was so highly vinegary that it nearly blew my socks off, but I quickly recovered to enjoy the meal. Highly recommend and we look forward to our next visit.More

Visit for a family pre-Christmas lunch. We chose from the Winter Menu. All our food was well cooked. My terrine starter was particularly good, and the amuse-bouche of a venison croquet was a star all by itself. The staff were attentive and welcoming. Wine list...looked comprehensive; including some fine wines. Good selection of beers/real ale on tap. Nice also to see a wood burning stove adding to the ambiance on a chilly winter’s day!More

Fabulous place with wonderful staff. Booked into to stay overnight on a Monday and were delighted to find out they have a Monday offer of £22 for 3 course meal. It was superb! The food was excellent and the young staff were friendly and helpful....The rooms were comfortable - could do with some sockets near to the dressing table and full length mirror is always helpful but overall a really wonderful place. Highly recommend.More

We have eaten at this restaurant a number of times, and if I had written a review then I would have given 5 stars. However, our experience on Wednesday was not quite as I had expected. Ambience and service were excellent, but my choice of...dishes left me disappointed. I choose “Salt and pepper squid” and the squid seem to have been omitted from the dish, substituted by some fried whisper thin rings. Followed by Beef Cheeks, excellent quality meat, but the other elements were not up to the restaurant’s usual standard. I see from someone else previous review they mention the cost of wine, and would agree it was too high for the wine on offer.More

Although we live more than 20 miles from the Six Bell, we had recently heard some great comments about the food so we booked an early table for a Monday night … our plan was to try their Auberge Menu. Upon arrival we received an...immediate welcome, and were promptly shown to our table in a warm, tastefully decorated part of the pub. The food was excellent and for me, the Pheasant was spot on .. it was a generous portion as were the accompanying selection of vegetables and it was a big thumbs up from our party of 4. My only negative comment for the evening was the pricing of wine, a little excessive for what it was! Otherwise thanks to all those on duty that evening.More

Visited for dinner with my husband, very excited as had heard so many good things about this place. Setting is lovely, pub is beautifully done and very cosy. It was very busy when we got there for our table booked at 6.30pm but that felt...like a good sign. I’m not sure if the place has 2 set sitting times because when we booked there was a caveat that the table needed to be handed back by a certain time, which I can’t quite recall but on paper it felt like plenty of time. Once there however it felt very rushed, bread and starters came out at the same time which was weird and I just felt like staff were trying to hurry us along all the time. At one point I placed my knife and fork down to take a sip of drink and the loitering waitress immediately leapt on me to ask if we’d finished, even though I had half a plate of food left and my husband was clearly eating. I had heard so many good things about the food here but honestly it was only ok and very expensive for what it was I felt. Sadly we left feeling disappointed which was a shame as it is a beautiful place.More

Lovely cosy pub with friendly staff and excellent service! We had a roast dinner and the quality and amount of food was so good! The pub was lovely inside and the conservatory was so pleasing to see, would definitely go back!

Sunday lunch was okay but a little disappointing. Friends had tipped us off about the food but they dined in the week. Let me summarize: Service - a bit slow and having waited 20 minutes after being handed the desert menu, we decided to call...it a day. They did apologize and offered to serve us straight away but the moment was gone. Staff were friendly and polite. Food - Typical Sunday roast but with watery gravy and too much of it. I guess it's a bit difficult to make a rich gravy when you have three different meats on the menu. Yorkshire pud was okay but was a bit sucked in like a old man's face. Roast taters seemed to have been roasted from raw and not part-boiled to get them fluffy inside and crispy out hence a tad hard on the choppers. Lamb was nice and pink, just how I like it. Would we come back? Certainly but not for mass-catered Sunday lunch. 5 maybe 6/10More

Very dissapointed in our last visit to the Six Bells..... Had been looking forward to a great Sunday lunch since we booked last week, but having visited on Sunday, we won't be returning for a Sunday lunch again. They were extremely busy which is a...good sign, however the food served i believe suffered for this. A Sunday lunch shouldnt be a difficult thing to do, but when it arrived, although looking good on the plate, it was more style than substance. I ordered the beef and got two fairly stingy slices, which had have been decent beef i wouldnt have minded but two large veins of fat running through it, made it very chewy and unenjoyable. The vegetables on the whole were ok, a nice mix but the roasties were soft in texture (like they had been sitting around for a while) and the yorkshire needed a lot of gravy to soften it up. Finally, the gravy was the biggest thing that let the meal down, it was literally like dishwater, so thin, hardly any flavour and very dissapointing. Should do better Six Bells.......More

Tried the Six Bells for the first time and we were very happy indeed. Wood fired Roast Beef and similarly cooked Roast Lamb. Wife had the lamb and crowned it the best she's had in years, my beef was succulent and perfectly cooked, Yorkies were...lovely and light, plenty of excellent gravy and a big bowl of vegetables including glazed carrots, parsnips, broccoli, tenderstem broccoli, cauliflower and beautifully sweet roasted onion! House wines were very good, Abbott Ale superb. All this for under £70! Special mention to the staff who are very friendly, can't do enough for you in fact, efficient and knowledgeable which makes it a great atmosphere. In other words this is exactly how a country gastro pub should be run and I cannot award it any less than 5*.More

Haven’t a clue. I have only been there once, and no-one in our party requires gluten-free. I suggest you look on the Six Bells website or give them a ring.
