Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Special. We like to push the boat out for our wedding anniversary and The Star did not disappoint. An interesting menu with a lot of locally sourced food. In spite of being a busy lunch the service was smooth and unhurried. A special mention for...the rhubarb soufflé.More

Honestly couldn't fault our meal here. Have previously found Michelin star restaurants to be a little stuffy, but the Star Inn is anything but. The feel and relaxed ambience of a really good village pub coupled with exceptional food. All of the food was beautiful,...and the accompanying wine we chose was excellent. All served by superb waiting staff (especially Charlie, who had just the right level of chat) and overseen by the front of house manageress. The highlights for me being the black pudding with my starter and the souffle. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.More

Fantastic building and setting re-opened after a fire. Really homely feel as you walk in with an excellent bar. The food was great but very heavy! The fois gras and black pudding starter was incredibly delicious but just as rich! The venison main was great....Overall excellentMore

This doesn’t get any better, the 11 course tasting menu with accompanying wine flight menu and accommodation is quite simply the best by far. Excellent service, food, drink, and accommodation is unbearable. We have been here 4 times so far and each experience is better...than the last. We cannot fault anything about it. Very highly recommended.More

We stayed overnight, haven’t been for a couple of years, but its special to us as we got married here. Its refurb since the fire is so good you wouldn’t know there had been a problem. We loved that we could take our dogs and...ate dinner in the bar which was lovely and chilled. The food was gorgeous as always and staff lovely, making it a perfect stay.More

We had an overnight stay with Dinner & B&B as a surprise treat for my wifes birthday. On arrival we received a friendly greeting and were shown around the hotel area before being taken to our room in the barn outside, the room was very...spacious with a freestanding bath in the bedroom area and a large walk-in shower in the ensuite. We had a drink in the residents lounge and again met more staff who were very friendly and chatty. For dinner I had booked the full tasting menu with the matching wine package, the tasting menu was priced at £125 and wine £95 per head. We dined at 7pm and overall it took us until 11pm to complete our meal, everything was nicely paced by the very attentive waiter who fully explained each dish and the accompanying wines. All the dishes including their signature grilled black pudding, foie gras, apple and vanilla chutney, were a complete delight. The paired wines also were excellent and you definitely noticed how well they went with each of the dishes. A good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed followed by a full english breakfast rounded off a great stay. Yes it was expensive but for a special treat well with going that little bit extra. We look forward to our next visit.More

A lovely evening with the family. The Star really scored highly (for us at least) for its atmosphere and service. The space itself is like a dream of what a perfect English pub should be, so ideal for a visit around Christmas. The service was...just as I personally like it - warm and friendly but not overly formal (which I don’t think would really work here). In the background, someone would be checking everything was in order but so discretely that it was barely noticeable - not that they needed to do much as we were very well looked after by the delightful waiting staff. All of our courses were brought out promptly but we didn’t feel at all rushed. They particularly won me over by treating our children so well - they really felt they’d had a treat. My youngest chose from the kids’ menu (a bargain by the way) but they took great care to ensure it was presented beautifully and that she felt just as much a part of it as those choosing from the adults’ menu. The food was great too - I would say the roots are French cuisine but with a British/Yorkshire twist (and a merit award for the beer). Absolutely top marks for service and we really enjoyed the experience.More

First visit here after lots of recommendations. The pub and restaurant are beautiful - a traditional pub married with the contemporary. However, we had Sunday roasts - sirloin. Given the Michelin star we expected something special - for £30. The meat was full of fat....The vegetables were bland. The gravy too thin to taste. The roast potatoes were nice and the Yorkshire pudding crispy. I’ve eaten Sunday lunch all over the place and this didn’t make the top 50. Dessert sounded nice but it was laced with star anise and not pleasant. By the time we added drinks we got a bill for £270 including £30 service charge. The service was okay but the waitresses did the basics - certainly not worth £30. Won’t be rushing back.More

It seems Michelin Star is an excuse to be very expensive . Excellent cuisine, shame about the accommodation . We booked a dinner and B&B package to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were very disappointed with our accommodation as it was cold. Only one radiator...worked . The bathroom was freezing cold as neither the towel rail nor the radiator worked. On top of that the ceiling lights in the bathroom did not work! £270 for a night was excessive. The only consolation was that the dinner was excellent in terms of cuisine and service.More

As an 'exiled Yorkshireman' I was SO looking forward to bringing my partner to this restaurant on a half-term break (I am not a teacher). We pre-booked for the a la Carte menu in the bar because we had our dog with us. Upon arrival...we waited 20 minutes before we were shown to our table and then a further 10-15 minutes before any menus were provided. By which point any desire to eat a la Carte had disappeared..... The bar was full of males who had been on a Shoot and, quite seriously, one or two of them were so inebriated that they should never have been served more alcohol (Licencee's responsibility is not to serve anyone inebriated...) however they were, and tables wobbled. Note to serving staff: You don't serve across the diner, you serve from behind...... Note to Bar Manager - we apportion no criticism to you, you tried your very best under very trying circumstances. Due to the long wait we decided we opted to choose from the 'Market Menu' which was simple but effective. A starter of Octopus Carpaccio - beautifully presented. After that the Chicken' which was an excellent example of how to produce Chicken which was beautifully succulent. Overall an extremely disappointing evening despite the excellent food. My recommendation: Don't come back during the shooting season.... ....we won't.More

Party of 6 including 2 children aged 10 and 12. Excellent food and as good as last visit, still love the signature dish! I wanted to write a review about how the children were treated. They have their own menu and are described as 'customers...of tomorrow'. Their meals were presented with the same care as the tasting menu for the adults and we were asked for our preference as to when their courses were served to coincide with ours. The eldest tried everything that I was served and at the end pronounced that next time could he have the tasting menu rather than the children's menu (as a doting grandma I told him "of course you can". Well done to The star and can't wait for next visit.More

It is obvious that this restaurant would prefer you to order the tasting menu. We arrived on a Friday night and chose from the Al a carte. Fish was on the menue but at 7pm they didn't have any!! The bill for 6 of us...was over £500. Have been to this restaurant a lot in the past, will not be returning.More

We visited for the first time since reopening and had chosen the lunchtime taster menu. The menu changed earlier in the week and had not been updated on the website, so was a surprise to us. The experience started with the fire alarm sounding four...times right above our table with little explanation other than it had been happening all day! Our food and wine experience was marred by a sauce not being brought with one course, then when questioned later we were initially told it had been served before an agreement that it hadn’t. Also, each wine was described to me, who wasn’t drinking, rather than to my wife who was. The service was not at the same level as our previous visits and was a little bit of a disappointment and this is what eventually has resulted in my score.More

Yes, open all day and the short lunch menu is generally good value. Also the real draught ale is kept really well and a joy to savour
