We managed to get in to the pub and we were not dissapointed. We ordered the steak pie with vegetables and I can say without doubt the pie and meat was delicious and plentiful. It came with plenty of gravy and really well cooked sprouts red cabbage and carrots.
I would say it was probably the best steak pie we have eaten for ages at a very reasonable price too.
They also do a smaller portion if you fan y a pudding.

Amazing value. Food is around £13-14 compared to many others which are around £20 while also tasting far better!
Ate here twice; liver was beautiful with an amazing gravy. The pie was huge with succulent meat and, again, another superb gravy and a stack of veg on the side.
OH had haddock and chips - the haddock was enormous with perfectly cooked batter and a nice side of tartar sauce and mushy peas.
One nice little touch is the inclusion of scissors for cutting the sachets - thank you!

Popped in on a recommendation, only to arrive right in the middle of a football match with a very foul mouthed fan! I understand if we go into a pub with our daughter then there could be some choice language used but this was above and beyond. He used so many disgusting swear words that we left. He then laughed at us on the way out - not welcoming at all.
Prior to this we had already booked a table for food a few days later so we were a bit nervous about returning but it was a tasty meal in a much more welcoming atmosphere! We were first seated at the back of the pub which was cold and a bit stinky so we moved to a table in the warm bar area.
We would definitely visit again as all bar staff were nice, food tasty and nice decor… we would just check the football fixtures beforehand!!

The 'gentleman' was asked to leave the pub as a result of his actions, I can only apologies that you and your daughter were subjected to this.
I am glad you enjoyed your meal with us. I am sorry you found 'THRU THE BACK' cold, it is a large romm and very difficult to get the temperature ambient.
I am unsure what caused it to be stinky.
Please make your self known on your next visit and enjoy a drink on us.

Whilst this is a great pub for a few drinks I would not recommend it for food.
We had madras curry and steak &ale pie.
Curry - didn’t even look like a curry - had red peppers in. Rice was watery. Weirdest madras curry ever seen.
Pie - top of pie burnt, base pastry not cooked. Filling was very tasty. Came with processed mash, and vegetables - the green beans were under cooked and still hard. They definitely needed longer in the microwave.

Drove 38 mile round trip for a lasagne. The pub was busy. The only table available was a very small round table with a seat cut into the wall that was uncomfortable. My arms and shoulders were pressed against the wall at both sides. The lady at the bar kept stopping people from going to the large empty eating area to the rear of the pub. There was a large empty table next to us. When we asked if we could sit there the lady behind the bar said abrubtly, "no it's reserved". Another lady asked if she could sit there as they had been standing for about 20 minutes. She was also told that it was reserved. She asked what time it was reserved until and was given the answer, "all day". According to the sign on the table it is reserved for "friends" of the fountain pub. They turned at least 14 people away saying they had no seats rather than opening the larger room and allowing non-friends of the pub to use the always reserved table. The chips were frozen chips, the lasagne was tasty but dry the salad was ok but had an unknown sauce on it. This was our third and final visit. Its nice that they can afford to turn away paying customers. Should have gone to the cafe opposite instead we would have been more comfortable and would have felt more welcome.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy your visit and meal.
We would love to be able to open our dining area 'THRU THE BACK' but unfortunately like many bars we do not have the staff to be able to do this.
The table you sat at has a choice of at least 4 seats, so unsure why you chose the quirky little seat that so many love.
The large table is reserved for Fountain Friend card holders, something we started in the pandemic and is very successful for us.
The sauce on the salad is basic french dressing. As you didn't mention your disappointment with the lasagne, we were unable to address the problem.

We were staying in Hawes overnight and it was a toss up as to which pub we would have our evening meal on the Saturday night. There were tables available here and was able to book over the phone that morning.
The bar area was quite busy when we arrived but the dining room at the back was less busy and fine for our meal. The menu was not long but had a decent choice. We ordered at the bar and the food arrived reasonably quickly. I had the liver and bacon with mash and my wife the lasagne with garlic bread. My liver was really well cooked and had plenty of gravy which was great. The accompanying vegetables weren’t great though. My wife enjoyed her lasagne so overall we felt the food was good for the money and glad we had chosen to eat here

I am not a fussy customer or eater but this experience is beyond anything I have encountered for a very long time.
After waiting for over an hour to be served two plates were presented which were barely recognisable by reference to their menu description.
One was supposed to be lasagne but it was more akin to meat crumble with a topping of curdle cheese. It was simply inedible.
The other was described as liver and bacon. The liver could have troubled a shoe maker for being too tough. We tried it on our hungry dog but even she could not hack it.
Whie I have every sympathy with local businesses trying to appease an increasingly entitled public I do strongly feel that we all have a duty to call out businesses that are attempting to pass off troublingly poor quality food and taking hard earned money for it.
Eat here at your peril.

My partner booked this for 2 nights for my birthday, personally i wouldn't have! Where do i start?? Booked for sunday lunch and both of us were expecting a lovely home cooked country pub meal. It most certainly wasn't! If that beef joint was real beef and not from Iceland then i want to see the cow it came from. 2 frozen roasties and mash you could paste a wall with. It was awful for £13 each. So disappointed. Next we were shown our room, he wanted to come home straight away because of how basic it was for 260 odd pounds. The window was a slit (pic enclosed) but the bathroom was nice. Cant complain about the breakfast, pre ordered but ok. Any staff we met were also fine. Enjoyed the area but not the accommodation.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
So glad you enjoyed Hawes and surroundings.
Our Sunday lunches are hone cooked in fact our local butcher could probably even tell you which field the cow lived in.
I am very sorry you didn't enjoy your lunch, just wish you had told us, as we could have offered you a different meat or meal. We pride ourselves on an excellent, good value roast dinner.
Due to the layout and age of the front of the building I am afraid there is nothing we can to do change the shape or size of the window.

We rang to book a table but told it was walk ins only. We gave it a go and on arrival found tables reserved. Upon checking with the very rude bar staff we were told all tables were reserved when we rang (?). We waited for a table and more people arrived looking "hunted" and almost fighting for a table. Very animal and not a great atmosphere. We left and ate at the White Hart Inn. Very welcoming and we were put on a waiting list straight away and seated within 20 minutes. (We had a seat at the bar until a member of staff came to tell us our table was ready) White Hart highly recommended.

We had a nice over night stay. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming.
Josh on reception made us feel at home straight away. We had our young Cavapoo, Sox with us. Although dogs are not allowed in the breakfast room the staff made sure we had the same experience as everybody else. They could not have been more helpful.

Many pubs & restaurants were not serving meals on Sunday evening and called in to The Fountain. We were pleasantly surprised- the staff were friendly and the food was good. As a vegetarian I was pleased that there Sunday roast included 3 meat options and a vegetarian & vegan roast. My vegetarian meal was great- a mushroom wellington and lots of veggies. As well as being tasty the cost of £10 per meal was very good value. Good pub grub, good service and friendly staff.

Called at this pub on 21st January whilst out walking. My daughter had her dog with her and they couldn't be more accommodating. It's very dog friendly with water bowl, treats and even towels to dry them with. Brilliant, thanks.
As for the food, excellent. They have a selection of smaller portions if you want a snack. My wife and daughter chose lasagne and fish and chips from that menu and I had ham eggs and chips from the main menu. They were all great.
Together with 3 drinks the meal came to less than £33, unbeatable value.
Will be calling again next time we are in the area.
Thanks again to the staff who made us feel very welcome and gave Loke our dog treats. Best meal we've had for a long time.

After doing a bit of Saturday shopping on the refreshingly Main Street in Hawes called in with the intention of having lunch. Unfortunately they weren’t serving food until 6pm that day due to staff shortages. We settled for two very good pints of Theakston’s Old Peculier and a packet of peanuts. The atmosphere was cosy, tables nicely spaced apart, clean pub and dog friendly. Service was prompt and friendly. All in all well recommended. There was a choice of three different draught Theakston’s ales.

Nice pub welcoming log fire with a good bar selection. We both had the burgers all cooked ok downside served on thick wooden chopping boards!! This is so old hat nowadays they are awkward to eat off and food falls off and a nightmare for the waiting staff who can only manage one at a time . This is a good pub with friendly staff. If i could give one tip it would be change your menu dare to be different every pub in Hawes cooks exactly the same food!!! Pie chips burger chips scampi chips etc .

Quite surprised that of 4 pubs in Hawes Market place on a grand national Saturday, 2 were either closed or did not do food. But that led to the chance finding of the Fountain Hotel. 3 TVs showing simultaneous EPL, ECL and Aintree live. We had a great beef burger and an outstanding local steak and ale pie, a couple of beers and soaked in the atmosphere for an hour. What a great find.
