Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friendly staff, drinks a good price. Black Sheep well served according to my husband. Some seats a bit uncomfortable as very narrow bench style and a little tired. As others have said some of the customers can get a bit sweary and loud, bit of...a shame. Didn't eat there as menu rather inspiring.More

After doing a bit of Saturday shopping on the refreshingly Main Street in Hawes called in with the intention of having lunch. Unfortunately they weren’t serving food until 6pm that day due to staff shortages. We settled for two very good pints of Theakston’s Old...Peculier and a packet of peanuts. The atmosphere was cosy, tables nicely spaced apart, clean pub and dog friendly. Service was prompt and friendly. All in all well recommended. There was a choice of three different draught Theakston’s ales.More

Average pub food in outdated dining area and amateur, but keen, service. If you don’t expect much it’s perfectly fine. The small pub was lively with a live act on.

Just been to Hawes with a friend to do Wild Boar Fell, we wanted somewhere local to say that also served breakfast. Found the Fountain Hotel on Booking.Com, they had two rooms for the date we wanted so I booked it not knowing what we...were going to get. I can honestly say that this is the best B&B I’ve stayed in for years, the service was better than some lavish hotels I’ve stayed in and the view from my room (Room 5) is amazing. The room is a good size, the shower was hot, the bed was very comfortable and our breakfast was very hearty to say the least. Would highly recommend this hotel when staying in or around Hawes.More

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday as we were looking for a dog friendly pub. Had paninis with chips on the side with a pint and a soft drink. Staff were really friendly and food was lovely and a sensible price. Would recommend for...all visitors to Hawes with a dog looking for a nice spot to eat.More

The Fountain is a proper local pub in Hawes. There is no twee, old style decor and the interior is as far removed from a tourist idea of a traditional Dales pub as you can get. The reality is an L-shaped bar with the sort...of basic decor and furnishings that you’d find anywhere. Most importantly, it is a friendly local boozer with good service and excellent ale. And of course, as a local Dales pub, there’s lots of dogs! Super pub.More

We stayed here one night while hiking the Pennine Way. What we loved - everything! - the food was well cooked and delicious (dinner and breakfast) - the double bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows - there were ample toiletries - all the...staff were friendly, welcoming and kind - you could book a packed lunch for the next day - you pre-ordered your breakfast the night before (and it was an amazing breakfast) - the room we stayed in was huge with plenty of storage for your belongings - tea/coffee/hot chocolate/sugar all provided with a kettle and cups -cosy and friendly pub - we had an amazing view of the hills from our roomMore

Stayed at this wonderful hotel in the centre of Hawes in Wensleydale. The single room is an excellent size with a modern ensuite with large walk in shower. The room has plenty of storage space and my suitcase fitted under the bed to get it...out of the way! The bustling market town is wonderful to walk around and it is the home of the original Wensleydale Cheese. Beautiful walks and drives in the area. The hotel owners are welcoming and happy to chat and advise on places to visit and things to do.More

Really traditional pub and great staff, unfortunately Saturday nights seem to be ran by drunk groups who’s both language and attitude we’re extremely offensive, really glad we left before we ordered any food, felt sorry for the staff. Would not rush back.

Called at this pub on 21st January whilst out walking. My daughter had her dog with her and they couldn't be more accommodating. It's very dog friendly with water bowl, treats and even towels to dry them with. Brilliant, thanks. As for the food, excellent....They have a selection of smaller portions if you want a snack. My wife and daughter chose lasagne and fish and chips from that menu and I had ham eggs and chips from the main menu. They were all great. Together with 3 drinks the meal came to less than £33, unbeatable value. Will be calling again next time we are in the area. Thanks again to the staff who made us feel very welcome and gave Loke our dog treats. Best meal we've had for a long time.More

Nice pub welcoming log fire with a good bar selection. We both had the burgers all cooked ok downside served on thick wooden chopping boards!! This is so old hat nowadays they are awkward to eat off and food falls off and a nightmare for...the waiting staff who can only manage one at a time . This is a good pub with friendly staff. If i could give one tip it would be change your menu dare to be different every pub in Hawes cooks exactly the same food!!! Pie chips burger chips scampi chips etc .More

Awful meal. Greasy soggy chips. Cold burger. Under cooked onion rings. Appreciate the pub have no control over their guests but the group sitting next to us were talking loudly, swearing and discussing someone vomiting whilst we were trying to eat.

Many pubs & restaurants were not serving meals on Sunday evening and called in to The Fountain. We were pleasantly surprised- the staff were friendly and the food was good. As a vegetarian I was pleased that there Sunday roast included 3 meat options and...a vegetarian & vegan roast. My vegetarian meal was great- a mushroom wellington and lots of veggies. As well as being tasty the cost of £10 per meal was very good value. Good pub grub, good service and friendly staff.More
