We came on a Friday evening for our first date night after lockdown, with our toddler enjoy some much needed time with his grandparents we took advantage and decided to try the small plates at six poor folk.
We were not disappointed picking a number to share between us. They arrived as they were made fresh out of the kitchen. The nachos first which led to a little but well mannered fight over who got the last one, swiftly followed by this big cheesy tomato gooey rice ball (it has a fancy name I can’t spell) which was a little piece Italy on a plate. We also had the bang bang chicken and steak and noodles, with the steak cooked just how we liked it. We finished with half the hot dog each with my other half the butcher proclaiming, ‘that is an excellent sausage’.
We had a lovely evening with excellent service and a great atmosphere. The only problem in my view is that I had to share the food with my other half.

We decided on the off chance to visit Six Poor Folk for Sunday lunch. Booking is certainly advisable, because once it's gone - it's gone!
We arrived mind afternoon and were quickly seated, and drinks were brought within a few minutes. The menu is limited to a choice of two starters, two roasts and desserts (Although, in their defense they only offer Sunday Lunches so this is no surprise!).
We opted for Sunday dinner only, and this arrived with a great selection of vegetables, excellent Yorkshire Puddings and although we opted for the beef (Which was so delicious, it melted in the mouth!), we did get some of the crackling from the Pork Roasts (Which was superb!).
This is definitely worth a visit for Sunday Lunch, and we will definitely be back!

Made a visit to Six Poor Folk towards the end of a week tour round the Yorkshire Dales.
As it was all a surprise for my wife’s birthday I pre booked the table to ensure we got a good space.
We actually booked table 19 in the outside secret garden using the website but when we got there, the system had gone down, but as it was quiet , we were fortunate that table 20 came available and we spent our time at the pub in the glorious sunshine.
There was a good selection of drinks and we ordered a sharing board with a mix of starters, hummus, pitta bread, cashew nuts in honey and more.
The venue was very nice, very Covid 19 safe and friendly and as this was the first time we had been to Knaresborough we will visit Six Poor Folk the next time we go to stay.

My partner and I decided to have a well deserved day out after a particularly difficult week. Reviews looked great for Six Poor Folk so we decided to try for Sunday lunch.
Both of us left extremely disappointed and actually rather upset at how we had been treat. Staff were rude and unfriendly, food took 45 minutes to come and arrived with cold, uncooked veg along with nearly raw beef. Menu stated cauliflower cheese, this was nowhere to be seen.
Spent £35 of our hard earned money on an extremely poor experience and meal.
Venue looks gorgeous and understandable measures put in place for COVID. But seriously missing any hospitality, friendliness or professionalism.
Utterly disappointed.

For the most part the meal was OK, the fried pork was quite juicy and the mackerel was very light. However the pork crackling was not crisp so had the consistency of year old toffee. Also the lamb was over cooked not medium rare as requested. The waiting staff didn't come to check until we were half way through and when told took a blasé attitude towards my feedback.
Also make sure you have a spare bottle of water to take to the toilet if you want to wash your hands as the taps didn't have any water coming out.

What's happened to this place? It was our favourite place to eat in Knaresborough but we won't be back after yesterday. We ordered a couple of small plates of food which took over an hour despite asking waiters constantly where it was. When I spoke to the manager to raise this he was very rude.

Our first Sunday Roast from Six Poor Folk in Lockdown after trying another establishment which wasn’t brilliant. Fantastic ease of ordering and delivery spot on by Knaresborough delivers which has been amazing service to us during isolation. Food was beautifully cooked and presented and easy to heat up without spoiling the meal. The pork and chicken were delicious and childs portion quite substantial but soon demolished. To our disabled son in sheilding his Sunday roast is highlight of his week and wasn’t disappointed, so thank you Six Poor Folk 👍

From the moment you step into this quaint and delightful building you are made to feel welcome.
This was an impromptu meal with friends and the surroundings were perfect, seated in the mezzanine area of the restaurant meant you were a part of the buzz but able to comfortably relax and chat, surrounded by some very nice local artwork.
The food is simple fresh and tasty.
They operate a small plate/tapas menu which is perfect to share, I was tempted by the lunchtime menu which would have been fab to have had some of those plates on the evening menu namely the steak and battered haddock …but that only entices another visit.
Certainly will return and look forward to experiencing the huge outdoor seating area
Well done guys you have created an amazing ambiance!
Oh I haven’t mentioned the array of beers and ales available at the bar….well I guess you just need to try them…I wasn’t adventurous and stuck to Guinness which was excellent!!

Took my family for Easter lunch and we were disappointed with the over all experience. The roast beef dinner had three small slices of beef, the veg was luke warm and the cauliflower cheese that was also included on the pork and chicken dishes had an off sour taste to it. Our servers came to deliver the dishes but we never saw them after that, in fact we left the table with all the plates still there.
Some positives were the selection of beers available (Guinness was spelt wrong on the menu board) and the Yorkshire puddings were wonderful but unfortunately not enough to entice us back again.

Dropped in here yesterday for a Hot Chocolate with my wife whilst shopping in town, nothing to add about the service as it's excellent and friendly as per usual.. The Hot Chocolate was devine, made as it should be with Milk and not just hot water as in some places. Really delicious, yet again another reason to visit Six Poor Folk and pleased to see them opening a little earlier for the morning coffee trade - ps the cakes, scones and pastries looked good too 👍🏻

Me and my partner went for Sunday dinner and had it booked for 3:45pm. We live around an hour away so spent the day in Knaresborough which was really nice and when we turned up for our dinner we were told dinner was only served 12-3pm??? We were then told it clearly states this on the website. When we walked away we checked the website and couldn’t find a single thing on it saying this. Hugely disappointed and had to travel home to get a dinner as it was too late in the day to get food anywhere else as places were booked but were still serving food. Won’t be attempting to go here again....as they probably won’t be serving food.

We visited recently and overall were disappointed with the whole experience. Table booked for 8pm.
Small plates = tiny plates, expensive for the size.
Cocktails - poor cocktails tasted like the ones you buy at the supermarket ready made up and were expensive
Coffee machine gets turned off at 9.10pm so we couldn't have coffees after our small plates. Why can't a machine be turned back on for the sake of giving your customers a coffee?
Desserts - none existent after 9.10pm on a Saturday eve as the kitchen is shut. The menu suggests that the desserts are things that are already made up like cheesecake or ice-cream but why someone could not serve a slice out of the fridge seems beyond me. However, we were given a dessert menu to look at for next time! No next time for us, I'm afraid.
To top it all, they tried to charge us for a bottle of prosecco that we had not had.
If I'm honest, I don't like putting a poor review on but I am doing so, in the hope that they can sort themselves out and read the feedback from customers and do something about it. In fairness to our waitress, she was young and maybe needed a bit of guidance from the management.

Me , my son and other less important son arrived at this cafe at 11:07 AM on a sundY and ordered 4 crumpets 2 hot chocolates and a pastel de nata and they took ages to arrive. When they finally did my sons were disappointed at what faced them: 2 undercook crumpet with too much unsalted butter and no jam they almost cried. When the hot chocolates came they were ok until the hot chocolate part . My pastel de nata was absolutely ok. Also call it a bloomin’ pastel de nata not a custard tart. 0/10 rubbish don’t recommend. Nice inside though 😁😁

We are Knaresborough residents living only half a mile from the Six Poor Folk restaurant and whilst shopping in the town on Friday 3rd September we went in and requested a table for two on Saturday 4th September at 7.30pm.
A young lady wearing glasses checked her bookings and said that would be fine and asked if we wanted to be seated in the main dining room or outside. We said we would like to be in the main dining room and she confirmed and took my name and phone number. A tall man wearing glasses who I took to be the manager was also present.
On Saturday night we arrived at 7.30pm and were followed in by the manager. Another young lady asked if we had a reservation and I confirmed we called in the previous day and made the booking. She said we were not on the list but could have a table outside or upstairs but there weren’t any other people eating in the upstairs dining room. I told the manager he was present when we made the booking and I described the young bespectacled lady to which he rolled his eyes and muttered “Shona” as if that implied she was an imbecile who could not be relied upon to make the booking and therefore it was perfectly justifiable to refuse us a table in the main dining area.
I couldn’t believe the attitude of the woman or the manager who were totally unaccommodating in not trying to find us a table or even asking us to pop back in half an hour.
We said we didn’t want to eat outside or in an empty room so would not be staying.
Will not be returning to Six Poor Folk in a hurry.
There are plenty more restaurants in Knaresborough happy to take my money!

Visited following a trip boating with friends.
Beers good, very clean but food and drinks we had were disappointing.
Sharing plates - very small, houmous was watery almost like it had been frozen and defrosted.
Bloody Mary’s.... not sure if they actually contained any tomato juice?
Plus side was definitely the pork scratching... were unreal
