Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've just visited this pub as we ate trying to support all our local pubs and we were not disappointed. We had an excellent 3 course Sunday lunch with exceptional friendly service. The food was served v quickly after ordering on our arrival and it...was all freshly prepared home made food - crab ravioli and haggis and neeps as starter and both had roast pork which came with scrummy crackling lovely perfectly cooked fresh veg all delicious esp the cabbage and cauliflower cheese and roasties and boiled potatoes. Desserts were to die for melt in the mouth chocolate goey brownie and sticky toffee pudding- great quality and service-thank you to all the friendly chatty staff who made us feel very welcome in this lovely homely local pub - 10/10More

We enjoyed Sunday lunch wit( the tastiest gravy we’ve had in a long time. Portions were ample with a good choice of vegetables including cauliflower cheese. The staff were friendly and despite being advised they were running slightly behind we only waited 20 minutes for...the food to arrive. Very good value for money! Will definitely return when we’re back in the area.More

2 days into Lockdown 2.0 and we had a takeaway from the Nelly. What a great decision. Plaice Gougons were lovely. The Balmoral chicken was an inspiration and Elizabeth thought the mushroom & spinach pancakes were delicious. Well done Iain we’ll be back soon.

Whenever I'm up here visit the Lord Nelson for Sunday lunch and at least one dinner. Have never been disappointed. This time tried new to the menu venison, it was cooked to perfection lovely and rare just melted in the mouth, it came with cruhed...potatoes. An unassuming pub but well worth searching out for the quality of the food, in my first revue years ago called it a hidden gem and that still applies today.More

Iain and Diane are lovely hosts -friendly and nothing too much trouble. A traditional village pub with great food. Great theme nights and in general super weekend menus . The NYE dinner was excellent- seafood pancake was enjoyable and the beef fillet delicious. Good selection...of desserts and a wonderful atmosphere. This is a village pub/restaurant well worth supporting.More

I had the good fortune to book in for a planned 5 course meal at the Lord Nelson last Saturday. Every course was stunning even the starter of cold Gazpacho Soup The Prawn, Scallop and Crab Course was sublime The Mackerel and Beetroot course the...nicest Mackerel Dish I have had the pleasure to eat ever !! The final course of a delicious creamy Pannacotta in a Strawberry soup was outstanding. I praise the chef for producing an absolutely stunning meal that would not have been out of place in a high end Michelin Starred Establishment. Ian & Diane should be rightly proud and I cannot recommend their food too highly.More

I booked Sunday Lunch at the Lord Nelson on the morning of our visit and as we had a small dog with us we ate in the bar. Our reception was friendly and efficient and our main course lunch was served promptly by a pleasant...girl. My wife had chicken and I had beef. Both meats were of excellent quality and were accompanied by a good selection of vegetables and a boat of gravy. Two other couples were dining at the same time as ourselves and I have every reason to believe that the quality was consistent throughout. The licensee, who is also the chef came to have a word with us and we told him of our satisfaction. This was a very good quality Sunday Lunch and I have every reason to believe that we will repeat the experience.More

As is usual when we visit the Lord Nelson, the food was excellent. I'd asked a group of friends to join us and they loved it. Each of the 4 courses, that of Asparagus and Scallop soup, Crab Cannelloni, a duo of Rump and Shoulder...of Lamb and Rhubarb and Ginger Mousse accompanied by their choice of wines was superb. Iain is a fantastic chef.More
